@NPD

Im sure the stats are right, but the way its worded givest he impression that xbox is deficating all over the competition (i like the Xbox). I just dont think what seems to be something taken from a Microsoft shareholders brochure is an unbiased view of the situation. To quote your article "latest reports from NPD and Microsoft data". Like several people pointed out the article fails to mention that the x box has been out a full year longer after quoting total sales. A bit of referencing wouldnt go astray.

@33 MoSigma (aka, Guy With a Wii)

I totally agree with your comment. And the best console is different to everyone. It depends highly on what YOU want, and what suits YOUR needs. I would definitely recommend a Wii to a household with younger kids, to a household that is more likely to play a game if it's somewhat physical. I've heard that driving games are better on PS3, and shooter games are better on 360. If that's the case, then pick one of the two that is better capable of playing the games you enjoy. I myself have an Xbox 360, but I'm not going to praise it. It works for me, and it does what I want it to do, and I'm satisfied with it. Does that mean it's better than the PS3, and Wii? No. They all have their strong points, and you should pick your system based on what kinds of games you would like, or if you want to be more physical while you play your games, or maybe if you want to be able to play blu-ray movies, or HD movies. However, I enjoy games like Halo, Rainbow Six, Gears of War, etc, so I feel the Xbox 360 is the best choice for me. I do enjoy racing games now and then, but not enough that it would have me buying a PS3 instead. Shooters are my personal favorite, so I feel I should stick with the 360 for now. I definitely want to check out the Wii though, and possibly the PS3 when it gets a few more games.

If that was an NPD press release then read this following paragraph taken from it.

"Only on Xbox LIVE can members experience the largest catalog of on-demand, high-definition content in the U.S., including movies and television shows from our most recent partners: Disney-ABC Television Group and MGM Studios."

If it's an NPD press release, then why would it say, and I quote, "moviews and television shows from OUR most recent..."

Why would NPD use the word "OUR" if they are talking about Xbox 360. They would have put "shows from THEIR most..."

That alone makes me feel like this release is in fact from Microsoft.

No way Xbox360 is leading in console sales over the wii. You cannot find wii's anywhere in the states and if you do they dont sit on the shelves very long. Every reseller I ever spoke to (gamestop, best buy, and circuit city) claim that the wii's are the best sellers bar none.

I have a Wii. And that is the most greatest comment out of all of what has previously been written here. I've only owned two consoles (NES and PS1) and a hand held (Gamegear). Once I went strictly PC for ALL of my entertainment, I never looked at consoles again.

But then it happended. I was intrigued by the hype of PS3, 360 and Wii. I did my own homegrown research from a totally unbiased level. Before I settled on a console, I pretty much hated them all.

But the one that won my heart, body and soul was the Wii. It won me over and now I have one. And I am the more happier from having gotten one. The PS3 and 360 have some points that are much stronger than Wii and I would be the last to try to form an argument in defense of the Wii against them. But for overall pure enjoyment and satisfaction for the casual gamer or for the down to earth family with children, the Wii is my choice time and time again... hands down.

Its pointless arguing about which player is better because the cheap $100 HD-DVD players are much better than the one you can get for the X360.
Also theres no point in using US sales figures only and worldwide the Wii has already outsold the 360.

So much misinformation out there...

Numbers skew A LOT when you look at titles like COD4 that are available on both the 360 and PS3 or titles like Madden 2008 that are availble on all three next-gen systems. I don't really cinsider the Wii a "next-gen" system since the graphics are still 480p, but I digress. The 360 had better than a year's headstart on the PS3 and Wii. The graphics were a huge improvement over all three consoles: XBOX, PS2, and Gamecube. The difference in graphics between the PS3 and 360, so far, is negligible. In fact, some games that were originally designed for the 360 and ported out to the PS3 actually look better on the 360 even though the PS3 is more powerful, all things considered. So, there's no real push for a 360 owner to get a PS3 unless they just HAVE to have certain PS3 exclusive titles.

That said, if a game that is released for both platforms comes out, one would EXPECT the 360 version of the game to win in sales! More people own a 360 than a PS3. That isn't disputed. I would expect GH:III to sell more copies on the 360 than the PS3. I would expect COD4 to sell more copies on the 360 than the PS3. These bloated game sales numbers can be deceptive when extrapolating raw sales to determine long-term system viability.

A better evaluator would be percentage change for console sales or even percentage titles purchased vs consoles sold. The 360 had a huge library of games when the PS3 came out of the gate. The PS3 offered much cheaper console options than the PS3 did initially. But I actually thought the internal BD player on the PS3 was a brilliant move. Sure, it made the system more expensive early on, but it's the reason why BD seems poised to win, and, as mentioned, it'll mean a huge boost in sales for the PS3 console once that news hits the truly mainstream. Just let the PS3 narrow the time gap, and we'll see what happens.

My money is on Microsoft releasing a new console in a year or two after the PS3 starts mopping it up. Game developers are just starting to take advantage of the PS3's architecture, and the ability to put 25-50GB of data on a game disc vs the 360's 9GB raises the PS3's ceiling considerably. Bottomline, the 360 has essentially maxed out its capabilities. I believe the PS3 will begin to pull away soon.

Regarding the Wii, it seems to have really hung on. I thought it was going to be a fad system, but I think it is helped by its low price. I imagine most people don't own a Wii exclusively. Myself, I have a PS3 and a Wii. The gf bought me a Wii for my bday, and I bought the PS3 less than a month later. I just don't want to HAVE to use motion controls whenever I play a game. Then again, there are some games like bowling, baseball, golf, etc that I would NEVER play on a console if not for the Wii's innovative controls. That said, I imagine many if not most Wii owners own another console made possible by the Wii's relatively low price.

Really, no console is going anywhere. The popular thinking used to be that the market couldn't support two consoles. Then the PS1 proved that wrong. Next, we were told that the market couldn't support three consoles. The XBOX proved that wrong...even though the Gamecube jeopardized Nintendo's future. I see no reason why the PS3 will be "hocked", and the Wii appears to be selling A LOT of units. When MS releases an internal BD console, I'll probably buy that.

Blu ray disks play as soon as you put it in the PS3(unless you change it in system settings). Once again people talking, without knowing what they are talking about.

I've got all three... and I've got to say, I don't really see the Wii as a "console". In our house we basically use ours when company comes over. When we want to play games we always fire up the 360, and for a few games the PS3.
We just honestly never use the Wii... part of it definitely is how it looks but also it's that in principal it's a novelty item. It's great when we've got family and friends over and we've all been drinking, but when we're playing solo it just feels like a gimmick. The vast majority of the games are very similar with little depth. Only a few Wii games really stand out.
To be honest the Wii is the only console I really regret buying.

I personally have a Wii and love it, I own 20 games not including Wii sports or Wii Play and about 15 virtual console games. I've been thinking about getting a 360 for awhile because of the extensive game library but can't justify the purchase right now. I'd also run into a problem if I were to buy a 360 because unfortunatly i don't have enough open component inputs open and don't have HDMI due to it's a older 1080p 56" Widescreen Mitsubishi and also wouldn't be able to run it through my surround sound because the Surround sound receiver is in a cabinet on the other side of the room... The PS3 imho is a waste of money sure it has blu-ray and plays games... but you have to wait to get to the PS3 menu to even start the blu-ray movie which on a standalone blu-ray player isn't an issue... and as for the games i really haven't seen any games that are specifically for the PS3 that justify buying it... the other problem with the PS3 is that you either have to keep your old ps2 to get backwards compatibility or dish out an extra 100 dollars for something that should be standard regardless of the price. Thats just my 2 cents...

#25 is probably right. I prefer the 360's hardware and price.. but I have held off buying either because I am a huge Final Fantasy fan and I will most likely end up buying the PS3 for FF13/versus.

@23 : 360 won't win the war.Just wait until the exclusive franchise titles come out for the PS3 like MGS 4 , GT 5 , FF XIII + Versus , God Of War III , ect and you will see the tides turn.

Not to mention that Blu-Ray winning the format war will influence the sales from now on.People who have the intention to watch HD content on their consoles will favor the PS3 over the 360.

The PS3 is on it's way to the top , mark my words.
