I understand there were many articles about consoles lately but this segment of market is growing so fast and something is always happening that I can’t miss this post about Wii success. Since its launch in November 2006, sales of the popular Nintendo Wii videogame console has turned the fortunes of a gaming giant that had fallen dramatically the last few years when compared to its Sony and Microsoft market rivals. The consensus of gaming representatives and industry analysts is the huge performance upturn and market leadership brought about by the appearance of the Nintendo Wii is the amalgam of cross demographic fun, simple motion-controlled interaction, and a price that is a fraction of the cost of its rivals.
Sales figures recently attributed to the Nintendo Wii saw it outselling its already established Microsoft Xbox 360 rival by 2:1, while it absolutely trounced sales of the PlayStation 3 by 4:1. Furthermore, the popularity of the diminutive console has seen demand remain well ahead of supply since the Wii debuted. Wiis continue to fly off retailers’ shelves while stocks of Sony’s PlayStation 3 gather dust across many parts of the United States. According to sales estimates published by NexGenWars.com, the Xbox 360 (launched in November of 2005) leads the current generation of console hardware with 10.86 million units sold worldwide, while the six-month-old Wii sits in second with 7.29 million sales, and the PlayStation 3 (also six-months old) lags far behind with 3.1 million units. Presently, the Nintendo Wii is priced at 249 U.S. dollars, while the Blu-ray-equipped 60GB PlayStation 3 is priced at 599 dollars and Xbox 360 models go for 299 dollars, 399 dollars, and 479 dollars, respectively for the Core, 20GB Premium, or 120GB consoles. The wii is a bit odd really as it’s selling so well everywhere even though some areas (UK and PAL region in general) have funk all decent games.
We haven’t even got Paper Mario yet, so far i just have Zelda, wiiplay and red steel and nothing else out at the moment is something that i would really spend my money on. Most of the games really need demos as some look like they could be good but as the gameplay is so important trying them first woul be great.
The PS3’s two major problems are the price (which some people can justify to themselves) and the general lack of decent titles.
Consoles always have a slow line up but my Wii gets very little play really apart from the odd Wiisport session but i am glad that i got it at release so i don’t have to worry about trying to find one in stores.
my bad ps2 was introduce in 2000..and after 7 years games are still comin..
xbox – 2001 (not the 360) only 2 GAMES produce THIS YEAR.. (gamespot)
PS2 is still the best 7 years straight and still reigning.
I’ve got a Wii and a PS3. PS3 is worth the money now, knowing gta4 drops in october, hence my purchase.
It’s a beast with hardly any games, so it is wise to wait.
The Wii, well any of you knocking it obviously have your head too far up your ass to have actually tried one. They fucking kick ass my friends. The games are fun as hell.
I even have Call of Duty 3 and Medal of Honor for the wii and I’ll tell you right now they look and play amazing compared to what you’d expect fro mthe underpowered Wii.
Then factor in the roms for the wii, I already have mine loaded with NES,SNES,GENESIS,TBx16 games.
Oh, and I’ll still use my softmodded ps2 all the time.
In the next few months and specifically in the fall, you will see what the ps3 can really do, and you’ll see why developers like Rockstar, when talking about GTA4, are telling you to expect stripped down and limited 360 games compared to their upcoming ps3 counterparts.
And the ps3 has FREE online play out of the box if you’ve got broadband, I was playing resistance all last night on my freaking wifi.
What most of you are forgetting, is how AMAZING xBox Live is. Sure, it’s costs $50 for a year of service. Big effing deal, especially for someone that is cool with dropping $600+ on a PS3 system.
xBox Live CLEARLY has the most advanced, by years, online service available… The Wii, although it’s definitely a cool system, barely has an online service… unless you count making your gay ass Mii’s mingle with your friends’ Mii’s an online service… and Sony’s online service, while it’s free, is lacking all of the features that Live offers, never mind the fact that it’s difficult to program for… video game programmers hate it and therefore the online play sucks. I’ve read several magazine articles on this already.
And as other people have mentioned here, Sony’s game lineup just sucks. yeah, you’re getting GTA4…big deal, so is the 360. Aside from that Sony has nothing going on.
So for me the choice is easy… give me the system with (1) the BEST online service (because playing with your friends, or even strangers, online is where it’s at) and (2) the best library of games. And there you have it, 360 wins.
If I wanted a BluRay player… I’d go buy a high-end BluRay player… not a video game system all-in-one.
Sony and its amazing ps3 all the way!i have been lucky enough to own all 3 consoles in question and only the ps3 gets a look in.devil may cry,resident evil,metal gear,gta,warhawk,motostorm,home,little big planet,singstar,eyetoy,virtua fighter,gran tourismo,killzone,innovations galore,free online play (which is fantastic i might add),blu ray dvds in full 1080 (a high end player costs over £499 for the cheapest),usb plug and play,backwards compatible,need i go on ?

1) Who cares about BluRay DVD’s… I don’t. If I’m even ON this site now, and I use NetFlix… why would I ever pay more for BluRay, when we don’t even know who’s going to win out, BluRay or HD DVD.
2) 360 can do 1080p, as well.
3) 360 has USB ports, as well.
4) 360 is backwards compatible too.
5) xBox live costs $50 for a year. If you’re THAT cheap, that you can’t spend that, then I’m hoping you’re writing your next post from a public library, as you shouldn’t have the money for a personal computer or a personal Internet connection. Live is SO MUCH better than Sony’s cheesy free service.

And the wii was never intended to have online play. It’s online features are there for you to download new2 software (opera browser) and roms for old systems. No hacking or modding required.

So why are all the games on the PS3 that were already released on 360 decidedly worse, i.e. choppy frame rates, poor graphics etc. see COD3 as an example.

Let’s lay down the gauntlet, shall we? I challenge any of the Sony fanboys to show me an article, in any major publication or reputable website, which states how amazing the lineup of games has been so far for the PS3.
The 360 clearly has the top titles, whether they are EXCLUSIVES to the system (Gears of War, Halo, Command & Conquer, Crackdown, Lost Planet, Two Worlds, Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Saints Row)or titles that are on both platforms, such as Oblivion, GTA IV, Resident Evil, etc.
Metal Gear? Not only does that game bore me to tears, but there’s also a very good chance that Sony will lose the exclusive license to that as well. And get out of here with your “Resistance: Fall of Man”…. Gears of War eats that game up so bad that it’s not even funny.
And with Sony losing so much money with the PS3, I would be surprised, like King of Swing said, if they one day start charging money for the “Free” online service.

very nice debate you have going on here, but a couple of things are misguided at best. First off, Gears of War, Command and Conquer and Lost Planet are not anywhere near exclusives. C&C3 was released on the pc first (this game is the king of pc games ffs!). Gears of War will be released on PC as soon as GOW2 hits the 360. Lost Planet is already on the PC, but just as its 360-counterpart it sucks balls.
As for the tool two posts above me: it really doesn’t matter what you THINK about the Halo series. Cold hard facts are what is needed here. Halo is possibly one of the most successful console games, and definitely the most successful shooter on all consoles. So there are millions of gamers out there who do not think that it’s “dog shit” as you put it.
Again, your point about Metal Gear Solid “pwning” Halo is an opinion. Not a fact. Seeing as your opinions don’t apply for the rest of us, maybe you should pull your head out of your ass, just a little?

Just some clarification… When I was talking about the 360 “exclusives”, I was only talking about the three big next-gen consoles. Obviously PC games kick ass and have for years… But for me personally, it’s hard to keep up with the joneses and have the latest PC hardware needed to play the newest games… so lately I’ve just been about my 360. And now I got a Wii for my kid, which admittedly is fun and “different”…but still not my cup of tea. I’d take the power of a 360 and xBox Live any day over a silly Wii game (regardless of how fun it is playing with a few people).

Not sure if this interest anyone .. but did some number crunching a few weeks ago, came up with the breakeven point for xbox vs. wii, the day for which the wii sales numbers exceeds xboxs. It was about 200ish days (can’t remember exact number).

(lol as i have stated in my previous comment i own all 3 consoles wii for my son and wife,360+ps3 for my much loved fps’s also i enjoy my ps3 through a SONY VPLHS-50 ” HD READY PROJECTOR so i play blu ray dvds as there is no pixelating on the big screen.)

What are you actually trying to say there? Something that’s already been said a long time ago? Well we are all not as slow as you and don’t need reminding thank you. My point is to all the MS fanboys here to keep it buttoned about the massive library of 360 games, as my argument was that it will take just as long for PS3 games to get established onto the market as it did with 360! So if there wasn’t an issue with waiting for 360 games to hit the shelfs then there shouldn’t be any with PS3, especially since Sony’s reputation is a hell of a lot bigger/better than MS’s, there shouldn’t be a problem with waiting for new releases.
So, in a nutshell, telling one should buy a 360 because of its library of games is total bullshit.

Wii is fun and interactive, but the graphic quality on its game to other consoles is par. But for a fatass like me, this thing gets me up and about…good exercise, lol. I find nintendo a very excellent company nowaday. Its success and products design are like that of Apples, and i like that though i don’t like Apples iPod.

Yes, I agree with you. The Wii is very different from the 360 and PS3. All consoles make excellent party devices, but the Wii takes the cake in that aspect. However, Nintendo’s games have always severely lacked depth. To bring out the “Britney Spears” metaphor once again: comparing Half-Life to any Nintendo game is like comparing Mozart to Titney.

Well I love the Wii and the Xbox360 is ok to. The PS3 blows elephant cock, serously almost a grand for the system then bout 3 grand for a proper TV and sound system fuck that.
