Nintendo still rules the console sales
It’s business as usual for Nintendo, once again sitting atop the console hardware sales charts. The NPD Group has released its retail findings for March, revealing that Nintendo has sold a staggering 721,000 Wii console for the month – no doubt selling every unit to hit store shelves. To further add to the regular demand, the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl has Nintendo fans in a frenzy. The Nintendo DS carries on with strong, unwavering sales at 698,000 units sold, just behind the Wii. “Nintendo systems represented 58 percent of all video game hardware sold in March in the United States,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “We expect our momentum to continue with big upcoming game launches like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit.”
Sony’s handheld took a distant, but still respectable third spot with the PSP selling 297,000 units. The success of the PSP during March is likely attributed to the release of God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the portable. Microsoft was finally able to pull ahead of the PlayStation 3 after being behind for the first two months of 2008. The Xbox 360 sold 262,000 units, perhaps as a sign of supplies finally being replenished at retailers. The PlayStation 3 held its position over the previous-generation counterpart, selling 257,000 consoles. The PlayStation 2 sat in sixth with a still relevant 216,000 units sold.

I wrote a whole damn essay on it….I console doesn’t need a massive system, a large selection of games and HD compliant. The Wii has hit an audience that has been ignored by the gaming industry for the last 10 years. the Brand is spot on, white and simple…..just like it’s target market!
the wii is a total disappointment, having owned one since release all its done is gather dust with hardly any decent titles. i cant believe they still sell so many of the damn things. infact id appreciate a list of decent games ppl. ps3 success is assured with the bloated price of bluray films subsidising sony adventures in monopolisation. much as sony irritate me i bought one for the bluray and xvid playback so i guess their logic paid off. and maybe for cod4.. im off to destroy some more noobs..

Can’t understand all the hype about the Wii, it may have a unique feature but it certainly ain’t “next gen” and I would say its aimed more at the casual market
Well since the casual gamer sucks at video games, the wii makes them look better.
Funny how people criticise the Wii for having less processing power;less adult games then PS3/Xbox 360 yet the sales show Wii totally destroying any other console. Sometimes people forget there’s more to a videogame then how many poligons per second it can process.
PS3 promised too much and didn’t live up to any of it ( except the price ) and the Xbox 360 is the same type of games over and over again. Just looking at a top all time game list for Xbox360 and you’ll 90% FPS and other 10% 3rd person shooter.

I have PS3/360/Wii and think all of them are good in what they do. Although i stopped buying 360 games now that most games come on both PS3 and 360.
Wii games are quite good but i agree there are not to many (in my tasting atleast). So far i have Zelda/Resident evil and i will buy Mario galaxy and Metroid soon. Beside these there are no other games i like on Wii at this point. On PS3 there are much more or at least there are many that are on the way out. But to be honest i really enjoyed the Resident evil even though the graphic was not super duper. Comparing RE to lets say Devil May Cry on PS3 i would say RE was much more fun. I’m the type of person who want the best graphic but i must say the control and the feeling play a BIG role in the picture.
Perhaps Sony will make a controller like Wii
I was never a Wii fan, but I bought one when the Smash Bros game came out, its not the best console or the most powerful, hence the low price, but it has some pretty good games.

Only reason I got a Wii is for the hassle free mod and free games.

the wii is good for sports games in my opinion, makes it more fun. 360 is good for shooting games, and the ps3 is just good for blu ray movies lol.

The only real reason that the Wii is in high demand is that it’s appealing to small children or those who suck at gaming. Some people just don’t want to learn the control scheme of a game pad, or they want to play Pokemon. Also, the Wii is the cheapest(you can tell) and cheap things sell.
As for me, I can’t play something that has slightly above PS2 graphics, has no DVD support, has a game selection of 5% good dames, 95% crap.

I have had all 3 systems at some point or another,and i would have to say so far,i liked the 360 the best. The ps3 was fine but i hated the “install times” and the sixaxis controller.the Wii was/is pretty overrated. I admit the first week i had it i enjoyed it with my friends(damn you wii sports),but its pretty much a novelty item supported by fanboy hype.Good news from the nintendo though was that i was able to trade it for a good car(bless criagslist).
it’s cause all the old people pay for one with their pension, the young ones beg their parents because they can virtually beat some one up. It’s not for hardcore gamers and therefore will never appeal to half the people on the internet forums like these which usually are hardcore gamers.

360 is the best, i had a ps3 and got rid of it, everyone thinks it exceptable to play through wifi and dont really understand that you cant do that with a laptop running at the same time, the lag is rediculous. the wii is a fad and will die off soon enough, especially when xbox and sony steal the idea and improve upon it on a real piece of hardware, but the wii is great for casual gamers and people who treat it like trivial pursuit and only play when they have a dinner party.

Almost THREE TIMES what the Xbox360 or the PS3 sold? I don’t think so. If it was only the price it wouldn’t have sold so much more.
I can’t help myself on this one, I am still rocking the PS2 and the game cube because there are so many games for those two systems that I haven’t played, whats the point in upgrading? You can say it looks more realistic and it runs faster and all of that crap but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is whether or not the game is fun. I still remember thinking Mike Tyson’s Punchout and the first Zelda must have been games made by God himself. And yes #12, Resident Evil is where its at!
About the whole off topic Obama-Clinton-McCain issue, I don’t think any of them really deserve the white house but Obama, I don’t know if I can live with a pres. who has trouble pledging allegiance to the flag, I don’t know about you guys but that seems like a pretty important thing to me.
Love Wii, fun games, love PS3 serious games, X360…….well for this one no, it’s not about games, it’s about M$.

Wonder what the wii people will say once GTAIV comes out… One of the most unmissable games. Then theres Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear. Thats where it’s at. To be honest I’m not really happy with the games at the moment but once those games are out I will be.
I have a PS3 and all I’ve played it Lego Star Wars, kinda sad I know :(. But COD4 and all the other crap is on PC so ^^.
I hope the Wii sudenly dies, I would hate for gaming to take a backwards step because of it, I look at it and found out none of the games even remotley interest me (except that game with the d00d out of MGS fighting a pokemon character WTF?).
I agree with moose, the truth is PS3 is far from done with many more good titles to come, and Xbox has its fair share too, but Wii….. Sure it’s entertaining but once you finish the only good games it has (Zelda, SM:Galaxy, Brawl and soon to be SM: Kart) there isn’t much left, and the Sony has quite a few more aces up their sleeve. Could you imagine the reprecussions of a price drop AND a MGS4 or FFXIII bundle?

I’m guessing the person with the car was real desperate for a Wii, or your definition of a good car is way off. Either way I think it would be quite hard to find someone willing to part with a “good” car for a Wii.

we had a wii and it lasted for 2 months tops, we then sold it at a profit, it is the most overated console i have ever played, in our home we have a 360 for my son, and i have a ½ decent pc for games like Football Manager 2008, you cant play the greatest ever made on a console anyway.
There are a few common sense things I’d like to address since a lot of people have no clue what they’re talking about on here. PS3 is only good for what, Blu-Ray and graphics…for what games? They might have a chance if their hits games actually ever come out of hiding lol. Besides, Microsoft is in talks with Sony about Blu-Ray so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a future Xbox 360 with either a Blu-Ray player built in or an add-on. The Wii is literally the cheapest system, graphics tell you the price. Yes it might have a few nuggets of titles that could be fun, but nothing that would like rock your world and make you give up serious gaming. Most of the people who play Wii games are not very good at games and their market is aimed at kids. Kid things sell like crazy, because the parents buy them, especially when they’re cheap. Xbox 360, best console out. It’s all around fun, unless yours breaks down, which sucks, but when it has no problems like that, the online community/xbox live is uncomparable to any system. You can’t beat it. Xbox Live Multiplayer alone is more fun than a PS3 anything.
Btw…one game…Gears of War 2. Oh yeah.
the car was actually a 1975 Dodge Dart in excellent condition but some college kid wanted the wii so i gave it to him…like i said bless criagslist.
