Nikon introduces P80: 10Mpx ultrazoom camera

Nikon introduced three new digital cameras to its COOLPIX series including the P80, S52 and the S52c. The COOLPIX P80 is a compact camera with a massive 18x optical zoom NIKKOR lens. The P80 also features a 10.1 megapixel image sensor. The zoom lens covers focal lengths from 27mm to 486mm and uses Optical Vibration Reduction to reduce blurry images caused by hand shake. Several shooting modes are featured with shutter-priority, aperture-priority and full manual modes. Nikon also offers a Sport Continuous mode that allows 30 consecutive shots at 4, 6 or 13 frames per second. The P80 also has ISO sensitivity to ISO6400. The camera has a 2.7-inch LCD on the rear and it will be available in April for $399.95.

Nikon also introduced the S52 and S52c COOLPIX cameras today. The only difference between the S52 as the S52c is that the S52c camera has Wi-Fi connectivity. Both cameras feature 9.0 megapixels and a 3x 38-114mm Zoom-NIKKOR lens. Vibration reduction is included to compensate for image blur and the camera features up to ISO2000 sensitivity. The rear LCD is a 3-inch high resolution display. The cameras have an auto ISO control that selects the optimal sensitivity from a range of ISO 100 to ISO800. The Wi-Fi connection of the S52c allows users to email images directly from the camera and supports Nikon’s my Picturetown. Image storage for both cameras is to SD or SDHC cards. The S52 and S52c will both be available in May. The S52 will sell for $249.95 and the S52c will retail for $279.95.

Someone should take one these cameras into a theater and make a cam with it. Or maybe one those cameras that records @ HD Resolutions(720 1080).

Seems like that would produce a better quality cam. Correct me if im wrong but i think that would make for a lot better quality cam compared to some of the crap cams we see these days.

Ok now this just seems a tad dumb. What does a camera have to do with scene releases? Ok, so news regarding blu-ray being cracked or about a gfx card is at least somewhat related.

People will kick up a hell of a fuss when a P2P release pops up on rlslog but bypass completelty unrelated ‘tech news’. Shouldn’t this news be on a camera forum of which there are many?

I don’t care about cameras, I’m only interested in films, I object to this being on a scene release website, I don’t have time to waste scrolling that extra 6 inches down the screen to go past it so I’m going to come in here and write a post about something I have no interest in.

Why would a camera need WiFi connectivity?

i agree.. this kinda news doesn’t belong on this site

    April 11th, 2008 | 20:57

What if a cam group released a cam made with this camera? or a camera of higher caliber with HD video recording & it turned out to be excellent cam quality?

Then would news about cameras be relevant for the n00bs complaining in the comments about this post?

    April 11th, 2008 | 20:58

    @12

“I don’t care about cameras, I’m only interested in films,”

if memory serves me… films are made from cameras!

    excuse me…not from cameras….with cameras

uuu i’ve got an idea! f.ck cameras, what about actors? there are actors in the movies right? so maybe someone could post daily about angelina jolie babies and how awesome jonny deep is and stuff like that…
    (tip: yeah i’m being sarcastic)

Got to agree here, but wtf is this about? You gonna post the latest range of washing machines next?

If you only ever look at one blog in the entire world and it’s rlslog I can understand why you’d like it to cover all the bases, tech news, gadgets, etc. But I’ve got RSS live bookmarks for most tech news sites, and other interests of mine, including rlslog. I’d get pissed off if engadget or similar started wasting their page space telling me about every movie that came out on DVDRiP, and if everyone did this all blog sites would be just one homogenous lump of general information, repeated all over.

I wish rlslog would just stick to what it’s good at!

Set up a poll and let it run for a few weeks and see what others think…

    Do you think we should:

    a) Only post news relevant to scene releases
    b) Also include tech news related to gaming, music or video
    c) Also include anything we damn well want, including funny videos, the weather report for the next 6 days in Botswana, stir-fry recipe of the week, and the latest in vacuum cleaners.

    April 11th, 2008 | 21:40

Yes, but cameras are tech news, most downloading with torrents requires tech skills, codecs for movies, how to burn movies etc etc.
This website is for people who enjoy using technology. Hence the post?

    April 11th, 2008 | 21:43

Made me laugh to imagine what it would like to have a news about washing machine on rlslog :p.
Someone should really do it ! Would e terribly funny but I think it can be more than just the washing machine, a toaster is even greater ! :)

    April 11th, 2008 | 22:13

12 fungus is totally right. I also don’t have time to read the minor paragraph about anything other than pirated movie. That’s what I’m only good at. I even don’t have the skill to unread or pass or give a scroll to something other than that very good topic I’m good at.

Go get a life those who complain about everything posted and be grateful for a moment!

“10Mpx ultrazoom camera” so… there’s nothing new here, right?
looks like digital camera. and for your information pentax has auto ISO control for a long long time :) there’s really nothing new here.

    April 12th, 2008 | 02:40

seriously… What the FRACK does this have to do with scene releases??? Anyone??? no one? OK then. So here’s the deal.

I’m sure that people subscribing to a camera blog would be pissed off to see some idiot MOD post a DVDrip of some movie.
Readers would be pissed if a gaming blog like Rockpapershotgun ran a news story on the politics or something.

ITS CALLED RELEASE LOG(hot info about new scene releases). How hard is it to stay on subject and not post every random tidbit of news that tickles your fancy. geeeez.

  28. leo
    April 12th, 2008 | 02:51

i also agree…….. info about cameras, cell phones, or some fcuk doesnt belong here…….

this is release log….. to log the scene release about movies, music and such…. not to log some company’s product….

five weeks down the line, i could come and see 3-4 pages completely filled with release of new products and then find an actual scene release…

What? the extra bombardment of the advertisements are not enough… come on guys, dont decrease the quality of the forum… stick with scene releases…

    Thanks!
    LeO.

    @20,

if this poll is ever put up……

    Do you think we should:

    a) Only post news relevant to scene releases
    b) Also include tech news related to gaming, music or video
    c) Also include anything we damn well want, including funny videos, the weather report for the next 6 days in Botswana, stir-fry recipe of the week, and the latest in vacuum cleaners.

I would surely opt A……………NOTHING ELSE!

If you guys dont like the the rlslog site just move to another one

i like it as it is and i come here everyday beacause it is just like that :) i dont have the time to search about all this new tech goodies, so i find usefull the posts around here

btw, i miss the weekly funny movie :(

The point is, Boob0, if you want to read about tech news, sign up to engadget, lifehacker, ghacks, in short SIGN UP TO A TECH BLOG.

Its not like if you want to know about tech news, you have to read it here because theres no other place to find out tech news.

Can the site contributors please keep on track, and try to stay on topic?

    April 12th, 2008 | 08:03

Yea, really offtopic. The “if you don’t care don’t click” philosophy does not work here, this is so irrelevant it should not be here as it resembles SPAM!

  33. Oriacle
    April 12th, 2008 | 08:38

It doesnt bother me in the slightest. It provides articles I would not otherwise look at. Yes this is a scene release website, however the staff have every right to post things that interest them other than releases for all the hard work they put in to keep us updated.

And to some extent, this does have some relevance, still cameras ustilise technology before motion cameras. This could be the future of cams in HD.

    It’s a stretch, i know….

To the author – thanks for posting this, it’s quite interesting and informative :)
