Nightwish The Islander [Single] [2008]
Hi hi, this is just a small music update. Nightwish’s newest single has been pred about 20 hours ago by WAGNER. I can’t say I love the new Nightwish singer, but she’s quite good imho.
Nightwish is a Finnish metal quintet, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, Finland.
Although they have been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, “The Carpenter” (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively.
Symphonic power metal band Nightwish have released Dark Passion Play, the album with the highest production costs in the history of the band’s native Finland. When drummer Jukka Nevalainen was asked the overall cost of the new album, he was quoted as saying “Roughly half a million… We don’t know the exact sum down to the euros and cents as yet.”

The new vocalist is incredibly boring, and I miss Tarja’s full voice, and the leaning to opera. Now it’s like a skeleton, with a vague shadow of it’s former self.

I like Anette Olzon better than Tarja Turunen, the latter was very boring to me, I only enjoyed “Oceanborn” and “Wishmaster”, “Dark Passion Play” is waaay better! cheerz
Yay, another love/hate spam about new Nightwish singer, what a surprise.
Funny thing is, nobody would ever complain about Anette’s voice if she were a singer of an other band, similar to Nightwish. But since she’s a replacement for famous Tarja, everyone hates her (even tho it isnt Anette’s fault but Tarja’s you know… ). It’s been going on for months and you won’t change anything. So stick to release comments.

While I’m not really into the power-metal genre (I find stuff like Blind Guardian awfully ridiculous and silly) I do love other metal genres (black/progressive etc.) so I thought I’d give this a listen. And I was actually pleasantly surprised. I guess I’ll have to check out some of their stuff. Thanks.

I like it, and imho Ragis @25 is right, Anette is one of the best replacements they could have gotten, cause you know everybody is replacable, whether you like it or not, and she’s doing awesome job, and for all those haters such as @30 @21, if you don’t like it , just don’t listen to it, no need to post your stupid comments nobody is interested in anyway, go listen to music you like and keep your mouth shut.
How the hell is this considered metal? I’m an old school metal-head(slayer and slipknot,for example), and this music doesn’t seem to have anything metal about it.
Having said that, if you like this band You might be interested in an old band called Black Widow. They were out in 1969 -73.

Tarja Turunen sucks ass… I didnt like Nightwish before and that was just because of those vocals and because she cant pronounce, she speaks rally english. And I hope she and her greedy husband will never succes with here solo career.
Well, after being turned on to this band from this post, I gotta admit I like the new vocalist more. I get a little tired of the constant laid back operatic vocals from Tarja (from what I’ve heard from her anyways), and while the new version is definitely poppy-er, and less moody, it’s more fun to listen to. And that’s all I’m looking for.
Jeez.. just ’cause Nightwish is a metal band doesn’t mean that they make heavy music. “The Islander” is a pretty much a folk song. It’s a different sort of metal, and it varies. It’s like comparing Slipknot or KoRn to something like old Metallica or Megadeth; or Gorgoroth to DragonForce.

annete is way better than tarja, on live perfomances, tarja could hit a single note correctly (look up youtube for the bootlegs, not the edited and mastered official releases)
while annete acutally and not just go up to high notes and hope it will impress someone…
i have been to a nightwish concert with annete, and enjoyed every second…
she doesnt feet to sing the old material, they should stick to the new songs, which are good enough
but if you think about it- tarja didnt feet to sing the old material (on concerts) either, so it doesnt really matter
