    Why is it impossible for any release to be ‘In Sync’ first time? Does my head in, Also why isn’t there a DVDSCR of Pans Labrynth? It’s up for so many oscars?

    has anyone else noticed on this R5 release, the sound comes only out of the rear channel? anyone else had this happen…it’s the first time ive ever had that happen…on anything…my fronts and center have nothing, i dont even think the sub is getting any audio…just the two rear channels alone, no matter what sound field its on. just wondering.

    A90:

    DVD’s can be ripped into mpeg4 variants (xvid, divx3.11/6, x264, wmv etc) a variety of ways;
    A very popular and easy method of doing so is using Gordian Knot coupled with DVD Decoder, BeSweet, VirtualDubMod and NanDub as well as the relevant MPEG4 codec.
    Gordian Knot automates the ripping process by allowing you to customize ripping and encoding options such as aspect ratio, movie target size (noramlly 1CD or 2CD) and audio options (ac3 or mp3?) and then running the necessary programs to perform these tasks for you.
    Another variant of GordianKnot is AutoGK, a simplified version that allows (almost) 1 click DVD –> MPEG4 ripping. Although it’s better for inexperienced users, it dosn’t have the full implementation of customization options available that GordianKnot has.

    http://doom9.org has excellent guides on both programs.

    I don’t know if scene groups use Gordian Knot for their DVD rips, it’s very likely they do as the output quality using the xvid codec could not be performed better by any other software. A codec is a codec.
    Also scene groups want to get their goods out to the top sites as quickly as possible to *beat* other groups who could potentially have an identicle preretial movie/game/cd to release, this would mean they wouldn’t want to waste time hassling about fine tuning the xvid/whatever codec so that the output video quality could not get better.
