NewTorrents.info temporarily down
Just a quick notice – our partner website NewTorrents.info has been offline for 1 day now due to certain legal issues. I’m working on the matter and it should be back online soon. Unfortunately, due to the slow responses from hosting company, I can’t say if we’re talking about minutes, hours or days, but I will try to do my best. This post will be updated with more details later.
UPDATE: we are moving the website to the new server, it should be online on Saturday, max Sunday.

Be serious! Come on… If you look at the people who are downloading they are between the ages of 14-25. Lets put it this way in certain countries in which people use this service the kids are far safer at home (schools being closed for holidays) watching stuff playing games listening to music than being out on the streets getting into trouble or causing trouble… The places which to need to be cracked down upon are the people who reproduce and sell… Not the kids who are staying of the streets! At home and safe! Goodluck on the law loopholes.

LOL torrents are for n00bs. Usenet you don’t have to worry about crap like this, and I get my full 30Mbps all of the time no matter what I’m downloading. Divx movies take 2 1/2 minutes to DL, BluRay take 20 minutes.

NTi has been down for several days now, not one day.
What about the forum? It’s been down for about 2 weeks now. The forum doesn’t break any copyright laws, so there’s no legal issue there.

For those complaining about music and Ads when you open this site, just go to this link and download and install a host file. I use IE and have no popups on here ever. It also blocks most of the browser addons and other spyware.

@51 – I got one of the letters from a mate who works at Virgin Media as to what the letter would say before these deals were struck. Basically it’s a 3 Strike system, where you get 3 warnings and the 4th time your ISP terminates your contract, and will be banned from joining them again. No big deal really, just dont get sharing mass amounts of music files on P2P applications such as Limewire, and be sure to use several good torrent clients that allow IP Filtering.

Releaselog is not under any threat because it does not even host any torrent files. It’s just an info/news site and there’s nothing illegal about that.

@66 releaselog are hosting temporary direct downloadble torrents, take the movie “Taken” for example, posted earlier today. Even though it’s a temp thing while NTi are down, tlslog are still freely making torrents available for download via their site, which is more then likely the same reason NTi are facing legal problems.

Nti is an indexing site and hosts no torrents or files, it merely indexes torrents, much like a search engine. That, according to us law, is now also illegal.
Rlslog provides the same service, but takes it an illegal step further. It provides torrent links AND direct download links, so if we’re talking risk, rlslog is at much greater risk than NTi.
As for the forum, I think I broke that, fishheads msg’d me for some server advice and I think my answer killed the forum.

If it’s illegal to do what NTi does then Google is equally guilty – or more so. Not only can you find the same torrent links on Google as you can on NTi, but there’s a gazillion special searches on Google that can reveal weak sites, exploitable forums, pages with passwords and credit card numbers and so on. In other words – if NTi is a simple lock pick, Google is a combined master key for all types of locks.

I agree 100% with you, you don’t have to agree with the law, but know that they’ve set the precedent for merely pointing to pirate material, the exact torrent scenario that NTi is subject to, to be classified as making available pirated content for distribution.
Google, and really any search engine, is just as guilty, the difference is, they aren’t running a site who’s sole purpose is to provide indexed torrents for people. As well, they have insanely deep pockets, and are onboard with the NSA illegal spying setup, you will NOT see any mpaa/riaa suits against google. Instead you will see them attempt to force google to provide ip logs of all searches directly to the government.
Anyways, some of you seem a little confused as to how this actually works.
a .torrent file is merely a hash check of the content, along with the tracker information required to actually connect to the session. Consider a .torrent file to be an ‘extended hyperlink’, because in essence, that’s what it is. It’s not the content, it’s the file that shows your BTclient how to access the file and download it.
Newtorrents does NOT store the content. NTi downloads the public torrents, and categorizes them. The .torrent file is uploaded to the NTi server for distribution. NTi merely provides the .torrent(link) not the content. And when you get down to the technical side, none of the trackers are providing content either, that’s solely on the person who created the torrent, and seeded it.
In the past, NTi was safe, as it’s not piracy. But, with the cases against Isohunt and torrentspy, they’ve changed the game. That simple hash check is now considered illegal. Hell, in the case of the above mentioned search engines, they initially declared any data stored in the ram to be subject to copyright claims.
Anyways, that said, I still believe rlslog would be in more danger, as they are going beyond providing the hashfile(torrent) they also provide direct download and stream links to samples (still illegal) and the actual content.
If you have the time and money, Nti could totally win their case in court. Rlslog on the otherhand, would be totally screwed because of the links provided by the editors. Links in the comments are not really rlslogs responsibility, tho any complaints SHOULD have any offending comments removed. with letting the users add those links, the staff can claim the same liability as any forum, we aren’t responsible for what the users do with the service.
But as long as the editors are providing the links, you can’t use that argument.
I’m sure M@ster will figure something out, if rlslog is still here, there’s hope. Nti and sites like it are on the fringe, they don’t host the content, and don’t run trackers, they merely provide links.
The problem is, the mpaa/riaa don’t care what the law says, they threaten your ISP, your ISP caves and shuts you off.
If I was wrong, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because NTi wouldn’t be down. I’ve been at this since the BBS days, and watched bittorrent go from a leaked program to a net changing must have app. Right from the time suprnova took it mainstream, and I mean MAINSTREAM, I saw all of this coming. Be prepared and start thinking beyond torrents, as with the current iteration, they are doomed to extinction.
We need tunneling security in the protocol, we need a completely decentralized system without any trackers, expanding on DHT. We need to change the paradigm to protect the community as a whole and we need to do it fast.
This is only the beginning, no matter what ’security’ you think you have in place, your ISP, if they wish to do so, can inspect each and every packet coming across your connection, and even if you use encryption, they can still determine if you are using p2p apps or not. From there, a little snooping, and they’ll be able to see exactly what you are downloading, and from whom.

One thing at least RLSlog is adjusting to NTI being offline by making the links to torrent DLs for the reviewed postings by giving links to other sites. Kudos to RLSlog for keeping us connected while NTI is figuring out how to get back online.

Just a quick post newtorrents and rlslog maybe they were fully free for paying there monthly bills. Everybody notice when we first log in the the site and they easily put us on the ads. thats the way the get some points and earn money from us,.It is because every time we visit their site.They also get some points and cash in their account. just because we click their ADS for example”JUST CLICK ON SURF ADS AND EARN DOLLARS!!!, EXTRA CASH”.
