NewTorrents.info forums hacked
This wasn’t a good morning for me. After the usual procedure of reading through new replies at Releaselog and uploading some new torrents to NewTorrents’ homepage, I wanted to visit our forum. I was pretty confused when I saw all categories empty, with 0 threads and 0 replies. There was only one announcement, which maked it all clear: the board was hacked by some bunch of script kiddies hidden under the name TeamElite. These fucking retards used one of the latest 0day exploits which were released without my attention and were already used to deface hundreds of boards.
The hacker, using nick Ninja, also logged in under my nickname and wrote some comments, I already deleted this crap and chaneged some passwords, but all threads are still gone - two years of discussion lost. I’m trying to reach the server admin now, which should have some backups, at least I hope he is so dutiful to have them. I’ve closed the board for public, because I need to upgrade it to prevent another hack. The idea of building whole forum from a scratch is scaring me. I’ll keep you up to date…
well i am one of the user who used to get a virus when i used to join the forum is that something to do with it ? anyway i hope u have backup, cause starting from 0 after 2 years its not fucking easy…
i am not sure about the virus, i haven’t noticed anything, but i will rather upload fresh files to be sure…
well i got 4 virus this week but the week before i didnt get any virus so i dont know… i say the hacker was trieng to hack the forum 1 week ago.

Oh hell, it would take so much time to get all the useful (and useless, lol) things back on there, so lets hope you can get a backup from that serveradmin…

yeah, this has nothing in commmon with “hacking”, every noob can run this script… and about making backups - i was told there’s daily backup system on the server so I don’t need to make backups manually - but now, when there are problems, i don’t see any backups on the server, so we must wait what does server admin say…

Alot of usefull information aswell and countless hours of work are now seemingly lost because of some immature punks that know how to google for exploits.

If there arn’t any backups thats a lot of useful information lost, although i didnt post a great deal i did check the forums daily and read through things if i had a problem or fancied learning somthing.

well i’m sorry guys it isnt just toreents that team elite mess about with.
the dc community has had problems for a cpl of yrs now and are at present taking down what hub lists they can due to not being able to run there fake hubs on them without getting kicked off.
so sad to see a good community go this way.

and Count Griffith, I really haven’t made one backup. I got daily backups of main website, but as you could notice, this forum runs of absolutely different server and there were some problems which caused I was unable to make backups of mysql, of course i got the files. Before these problems appeared, I was making backups also few times a week. But it’s all back now so there’s no need to cry over the lost battle…
