Oh noez! NOT AGAIN! Plz GENERiC, we were much better off without ball-e-wood :P If you must post some foreign movies, stick to posting Korean, Japanese, Irani, Chinese and off course Euro flickz which are much much better that this load of dripping drivel.

This movie was made around a very good concept but they (expectedly) ruined it again with their childish way of overacting and silly musicals/embedded music videoz which killed the mood just when it was building up.

johnny 666 – stop being such an ignorant T**T lots of non Indian people like Bollywood films, as they normally deal with morals and values which most people only wish they could have. They are a throw back to the past times where racial hatred and stupid discrimination wasn't so prevelant as is the case in society today….you know what they say-if u got nothing good to say-KEEP SHUT….or better yet-why enter the release page if the film is clearly not to your liking?! I say again….T**T

"They are a throw back to the past times where racial hatred and stupid discrimination wasn't so prevelant as is the case in society today…."

A time before racism? What, there's no racism in Bollywood?

Then why the hell do the Bollywood actors look nothing like 99.9% of Indians? Look at that poster, in Bollywood the actors and especially the actresses look like White people that just got back from Florida with a tan.

That's far more racist than the multicultural, diverse movies Hollywood makes today.

kutti, how do you work out that in Bollywood films there is clear racism judging by appearances alone? You obviously do not know what you are talking about full stop-so you should quit whilst your far behind in your warped views…the production companies can afford to clothe the stars in nice modern day clothing, and the stars are able to have there hair styled in the latest fashion-is this rascist? i dont think so.

As for tans and the like-does that mean every white person who has a tan-gained naturally or not – is trying to look like an indian? you're a very superficial person i gather by yourcomments.

you need to get some facts straight-Bollywood has taken production of there movies overseas to Australia, the US, Thailand, China, the UK etc etc…this in turn has allowed the overall look and production of a movie look ten times better. They also intergrate with the communities they film in, by having most extras cast from the country of film production, hence why you would see more whites, chinese, thai and australians in Bollywood films, then you everwood in Hollywood.

The country is widely changing and in a few years will be a world leader of trade and economy, as well as production. Yes small minded gimps like yourself, will view Slumdog Millionaire as being a true portrayal of India, as opposed to the small areas of slum villages which it represents. Look at India and you will see that the way people dress is becoming more and more upmarket towards todays accepted standard.

But you must also remember Indians are very traditional and will not always succumb to Western influences, hence why when songs appear in films, the cast will make clothing changes, and you will see lots of traditional Indian wear.
Also, just to add a fact Bollywood cinema accounts for 80% of film takings in the UK cinemas alone…hmmmmm strange that for a bunch of racists that India is the main reason the UK film trade is highly profitable

You probably think that as Dubai is an Arab area, that they all wear traditional Arabian clothing and are terrorists, when in actual fact they are more upscale in every way of life that the US! so there bleurgh!

Too many bigots on here me thinks

@ All who do not watch bollywood movies and has a problem with how Hindi films are made.

Just ignore the posts. I don't watch these and so I do not comment on these. You are not paying rlslog to post and neither is it your site. So why the whining. I do not watch B Grade Hollywood movies, the late night shows, most bollywood movies and so I don't bother commenting about them coz someoneone surely watches them and likes watching the B Grade Hollywood movies, the late night shows and the bollywood movies. So let them stay in peace. rlslog is not posted on your computer.

As far as how the Actors and Actresses look, just for information India has four major races and all look different. Indo-Aryans, Dravidians, Astro-Asiatics and Tibeto-Burmans. Most Bollywood Actors are from North India, which is predominantly Indo-Aryans and thats how they look. There is no racism involved in this. Hindi is mainly spoken in North India.

Everybody is perfectly capable to decide for themselves about what they want to watch and what they don't. Your esteemed views are not required. rlslog has not given you the responsibility to babysit. Instead of abusing every other person whos' view are not in harmony with yours, its better not to talk.

Its strange to see a fascist like you talk about facism in India

  49. Johney666
    August 15th, 2009 | 17:51

Everybody is perfectly capable of making informed decision once they GET the proper information. Withholding information and posting only marketing propaganda and fanboy's "ooh what a great movie this was" will only be presenting misinformation and my review (not opinion, but undeniable fact) is only helpful in getting a balanced view.

It is your solemnization that is unwelcome here. I can understand that you are just another nationalist fanboy who got bu*thurt. But everybody will not necessarily have the same choice and liking like a spoon fed brainwashed dumb f*g like you.

When I am not telling you fanboys to stop posting your dumb praises for a lower than B grade movie like this in here then why are you so afraid of my negative but fact based criticism? Truth hurts, And in the cases of f*gs like you it hurts even more right? So top YOUR patronizing yourself then.

Instead of attacking me whos' view are not in harmony with yours, its better not to open your filthy stinking pie h0le you indonazi.

It is strange to think how a dumb fook like you still haven't forgotten to breath and saved us in turn from some oxygen wastage.

Here are my picks of movies everyone should watch:

Angoor (1982) – Based on Shakepseare's Comedy of errors, very funny film, one song in the movie and it's not a song and dance just a person performing for an audience, and you can forward.

Agneepath (1990) – scarface, but a well done copy, and the acting is really good.
Sarkar (2005) – tribute to The Godfather, well done.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001) – a fun movie, you can forward through the two classic hindi movie style songs, one other song actually parodies all the song-and-dance styles starting from the beginning of hindi movie cinema all the way to modern. It's a buddy comedy/romantic comedy, but not vulgur unlike almost every single hollywood movie out now (and an increasingly number of bollywood movies too). Arguably started the trend of leading to a more different approach to hindi movies.

Munna Bhai MBBS (2003) – very funny movie, is filled with some bollywood cliches but the movie itself is a funny concept and became an instant hit, there were rumors of it being adapted to hollywood with the title "Gangster M.D"

Bluffmaster (2005) – You can call this a copy of matchstick men, but the movie is damn good, and funny.

Black (2005) – Inspired by Hellen Keller's story, serious film, well acted.

Rang De Basanti (2006) – good movie, must watch. Good story, not a copy of anything else, it shouldnt be possible as it is dealing with India's independance but set in a modern time.

Taare Zameen Par (2007) – good movie, dealing with issues of a dislexic kid and his journey.

A Wednesday (2008) – Great movie, must watch for anyone, no songs whatsoever and a serious storyline.

Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008) – Dealing with a variety of issues in the aftermath of the Mumbai train bombings, follows multiple characters with branching storylines.

    ugh… obvious typo, shakespeare*

    also, I forgot 2 movies.

Company (2002) – good movie, great debut by the actor. Deals with the mumbai underworld.

Ab Tak Chappan (2004) – title means "56 So Far". Referring to "encounter killings" by a cop (whene they need to kill criminals who would otherwise get away if tried, so they pretend that they set it up as though they were running away or something and were shot in the process). Very good movie and the actor is one of the best ever to grace the movie screen. There are very little similarities with Training Day which deals with a corrupt cop showing the ropes to a rookie cop, but ya that's all there is. The story is completely different, the concept is different as well. No songs in this one I believe.

No you losers, Bollywood isn't racist by what they show on the screen, they are racist for what they intentionally leave out of the movie. The actors and especially the actresses do not represent 99.9% of Indians.

North India has far more diversity than Bollywood shows. Hindi is spoken by many people of all complexions. But racist Bollywood would rather show only the whitest looking Indians (and don't tell me Bollywood is all North Indian, they happily bring in South Indians that are white enough) and reinforce stereotypes that White is the way to wealth and success.

I don't blame Bollywood 100%, this racism is a legacy of European imperialism and Moslim occupation of Indian that their indian lackeys keep promoting even today.

MODERATOR: Please restrict anyone to post comment other than rapidshare/megaupload/uploading/filetube links. They would just SPAM useless stuff and consume your precious hardisk space.

All bollywood haters: If you don't like to download/watch this movie, why don't you just pass on to next one. Does scrolling 5 inches cause you any pain??? Keep it to yourself, stop spamming the community.

All bollywood lovers: Don't waste your time and energy to answer these good for nothing posers. Just ignore and enjoy the movie.

These films are aimed for the not so bright, they are escapism for the Naïve and not so open minded. These bollywood films are doing nothing to help poverty in india, but rather continue the process of cheap entertainment for profiting. There is plenty of problems, such as racism, starvation, classism etc, people rather sing stupid songs in la la land, than grow up and face responsibility and tackle problems what are holding people back.

What has Moslem occupation got to do with anything when that religion preaches equality for all regardless of wealth/looks/status etc. I'd say the more concerning factors would be the cast structure imbedded into indian society due to the hindu cultures of past. Slowly but surely its leaving but I just can't stand this Muslim scapegoating that groups do to detract from their own evil (China, Hindus etc). Even I can see how obvious it is and I ain't even a Muslim.

More on topic: Having seen a few Indian films I'd have to say that most Indian films are crapola… but so are most hollywood films. Indian films more so because of the amount of films they release (higher than hollywood!). Good films *anywhere* are hard to come by.

Two indian flicks that were great from memory are:

Raincoat (2004), a film based on the short story 'gift of magi'. Great film.

Andaz Apna Apna (1994), lol what can I say about this film – groundbreaking comedy which was wel ahead of its time. Top film, just thinking about it makes me laugh.

Ya Andaz Apna Apna is actually is my favorite indian comedy, but the reason I didnt include it in my list is because honestly, I dont think other people that dont know the language wont get the jokes (especially with the crappy subs), plus it's filled with songs.

@Joe Ya I got a chance to watch raincoat last year. The director is having some diff. touch for sure. An Indian pal (yes I have some too) helped me to understand the underlying meaning of some parts of it. I've heard the director is a fascinating person too.

Placido Domingo's "Otello" (not Othelo) is so great I fear watching any other adaptation of that story/legend will leave a bad aftertaste and so generally avoid watching them (incl. adaptations of Shakespeare). But I'll see this Omkara to see how bolly handles it. Didn't know about it. thanks for the info.

    Joe

It's is actually one of the few movies where I dont forward through the songs, but what I was saying is most other viewers dont like songs in their movies, hence it wasnt on my "recommended movies anybody should watch" list which is for the person who isnt into indian culture or doesnt watch hindi movies.

Generally these people dont like songs in the movies they watch.

Even I dont sit through the songs and usually forward through em, but it's this movie, Dil Chahta Hai and maybe a couple of other movies with songs in them that the majority of the songs I dont feel the need to forward.

Can't disagree with you there syraph :) Although not Indian, I quite enjoyed that film, but then again I can understand Hindi.

Johney666, give Omkara a go, its a very different experience to an opera and shouldn't detract from Otello. It is a loose adaptation of othello, and in a very different context. A very well made film and (apparently) gives a glimpse into the village culture and mentality that is existent to this day in some parts of India [Not criticising village culture; I found it quite interesting].

Coupled with decent acting all round (the characters that play the equivalent of Othello and Lago standing out), it shouldn't be missed.

If nothing, you have to watch it for this one song (not all songs are bad :P ), danced to by a famous indian model/actress, during a somewhat integral part of the story line. I believe the song was called 'Beedi Jalaile'. Damn she's sexy.
