New RLSLOG server installed
This event was expected for many weeks and I finally finished the whole process today – the new, second server for Releaselog has been added. This additional machine should help to handle the constantly increasing load which is caused by growing audience of this site. The load will be diversed between the old server which will run Apache (http requests) and the new server, which is responsbile for our database (mySQL).
This should ensure the potential to handle as much as 200 000 unique visitors a day, which doesn’t seem that unrealistic if things continue to grow in a current direction. For those tech geeks out here interested in hardware, the new machine is Core 2 Duo based box with 4 GB of ECC registered RAM and fast SCSI hard drive from Seagate. It will take little more time to tweak all the settings and finish the software configuration (don’t be scared in case of certain errors or short outages), but it’s basically ready to serve now.

WTG on the upgrade. Posting more and more TV ep releases is going to generate a ton more hits = more revenue from hopefully the same minor line adds. RESIST the urge to expand that! Great daily site for many of us.

Thanks for all the good work, Martin! I wonder if the same law applies to websites as does to urban freeways: frequent traffic jams lead to more lanes being constructed, which encourages more traffic and thus jams again.
