New poll, RLSLOG Forums picks

poll.gifOh this was a busy weekend for RLSLOG! We successfully launched the official RLSLOG Forums and immediatelly created a great place for our little community. There were thousands of registered users and more than 5000 posts in first 24 hours! We also moved the Forums from a slightly slower server to much more powerful machine tonight, which should result in better loading speed for all of you. Props to Malice who helped us with the hosting!

There’ve already been many interesting threads and dicsussions on the new Forums so I picked up few of them to get you interested. I also plan to add something as “last 5 threads” in the right menu here at Releaselog, so there will be a good connection between both sites.

RLSLOG Forums picks:

It’s also a time to change the poll question – the current one was running for 2 weeks already and that’s long enough. We collected over 20 000 unique votes again, similarily to previous polls. The question was “How huge are your drives in total” and it looks the price cuts on hard drives allows many of you to build massive 1TB+ storage. This option was most popular with cca 25% votes, followed by 500 GB – 1 TB option. Ten percent of responders are still fine with a tiny 80 gig or smaller drive.

We have prepared a new question for you, which will run for another two weeks and show us which methods of downloading are most popular nowadays. Don’t forget to add your vote!

    Rapidshare ftw :D

Torrents is winning, don’t see how people even use those still, so slow.

    @ 1

Torrents are only slow if you’re on a crappy tracker (public), or don’t have your client set up properly (or both).

I have access to a premium usenet server, but I don’t use it much. It’s a pain compared to torrents.

Anyway, nice to see that RLSLOG finally has a forum.

IRC if i want something really soon after release, unless i find a nice adrive or eatlime type of link here first

torrents are fine for things that have been out for awhile

don’t have a rs or usenet account, but i understand why people love them

I think the previous pool was flawed in a way that there should of been something bigger then 1TB+. Like you say prices go down and i wanted to see if other people were in the +10TB like me.
Of course yes but how many though. Also i’m quite surprised at how many people still have less then 80GB.

I think each method of downloading (torrents/file servers) each have there pros and cons. I find torrents are fine for popular files but really aren’t that brilliant for new releases or releases that have been out for months. But of course they are free and there is non of the “file deleted – forbidden to be shares” nosense!

But I can always relie on RS to download at my full speed as speed it not bassed on amount of seeders and leachers.

Again, both systems have its merits.

Unique? Every time i come back to the page it allows me to vote again if i wanted. Thats not doing any funny business with my ip, and a semi static ip. Ie even when my ip remains the same i can vote again and again.

I’ve been on the same ip for 74hrs and have already had the opportunity to vote multiple times.

    It’s only 5 percent.

    March 11th, 2008 | 17:02

@Nestea, well as its hard to account for 1000+ people voting today then its very likely that between refreshes it does change! Also why have the option to vote again? Obviously some sites use cookies/logins/ip’s etc to control who’s voted and who hasnt.

@Admin, wasnt having a go just reporting what i thought was a small bug, which could have skewed the numbers. You guys do a great job here.

forum is very nice & handy, hopefully less spam on the forum than in the comments…

although you may upgrade your server once again cause the machine cannot handle the traffic on the forum atm.

regards & thnx for the great efforts martin & co.

I guess you can’t handle properly such traffic. Except if you have some money to waste for Gbs ethernets.

Definately 1-click webhosting. My ISP uses traffic shaping which limits torrent traffic to as low as 10kb/sec between 1PM and about midnight.

RS gives me max bandwidth all day long. :D

Oh and I’m one of those responders with just a single 36GB Raptor. Down with Western Digital, 3 failed drives in 2 years.

  40. Cornu
    March 11th, 2008 | 18:27

of course you can handle such amount of traffic, you don’t even need gigahertz ethernets btw

the problem with a popular forum are the MYSQL requests on the database, the isp of this forum need to upgrade their server with more RAM (8 or 16 prefered), make sure he has enough cpu power and splitt up the content & the database of his forum

then it will be all fine ^^

but now it’s slow as hell n/o

Probably bad luck. I myself have 12×500GB and 5×1TB all western digital and none have even come close to failing. I will never buy anything else.

rofl man i had a random dream of a new poll lmao!!
i like torrent because i can actually schedule my downloads since i have off peak bandwidth and peak (off peak is more)
and of course i always get my max speed of my private tracker 53.0 K/S.
and no one tease my 80GB hard drive !!!

    @40
Well you’re probably right. There are forums with 100x more users and they manage to be fast and pleasant. I’m not sure about the fact that this is a ‘memory lack’ but let’s say that bandwidth is somehow affecting speed (even if these are Mysql queries…)

    @42
Totally agree, I’m 100% (until now) satisfied with WD drives.
