New Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS

Nvidia has postponed its upcoming GeForce 8800GTS GPU from the original launch date of November 19 to December 11, according to sources at graphics card makers.
The new GeForce 8800GTS 512MB cards will replace the previous generation GeForce 8800GTS 640MB cards with a 65nm process GPU supporting PCI Express 2.0, HDMI and PureVideo Gen2. The GPU will have 128 streaming processors, 970MHz GDDR3 memory frequency, 650MHz core frequency and a maximum TDP of 140W, according to the sources.
Since the G92 graphics chip on which the GeForce 8800GTS is based has shown good performance after overclocking in the recently launch 8800GT series cards, several graphics card makers are planning to launch overclocked versions of the 8800GTS to boost demand.
GeForce 8800GTS 512MB cards are expected to be priced around US$299-349.
A Geforce 8800 GTS with 1024 MB memory is rumored to be released by Nvidia later on, but no release date is set. This is good news for those of you who like to run games and such on High Resolutions!

first…
GTS is the crappy version of gtx/gt cards
i would’nt bother with this
#1, u have no idea what your talking about. Next thing u know , u’ll say ati’s new cards are better.
Nuts, for that price tag they can keep it… if i wanna play games ill buy an xbox 360 off mr gates instead
No, it’s not crappy at all. Actually, for the projected price, it is the best card you can buy. It should even beat 8800GTX. Why is nVidia digging a grave for 8800GTX? Well, they just have to fight on the market, and the market wants 8800GTS 640MB replacement with G92 core and lower price.
Shure, you can buy 8800 Ultra, but that’s just much more expensive than this.
Stupid ideas are good in marketing!
Oh this is gonna be confusing for the newbs who bought a 640mb 8800gts and are now seeing 8800gts 512mb outperforming it hehe…
Does anyone really believe that nVidia will ever beat AMD now that the strength of AMD is behind them?
Wake up people, the battle is already over.
ah oh well time to replace my 8800gts 640MB lol
heh
“Does anyone really believe that nVidia will ever beat AMD now that the strength of AMD is behind them?
Wake up people, the battle is already over.”
What planet are you living on, that is an absurd statement, lmao.
FANBOY!
Omg i want this damn card!
WHY delay i want it NOW for xmas! Meh i have to wait.
Wait a damn minute, this is great news, December 11th, what the hell did i read.
w00t w00t

Nvidia’s sales are way up, ATi’s are way down
Intel’s sales are way up, AMD’s are way down.
They are not doing well in any segment of the market. Not dead yet, but they are not in a good position. ATi’s absolute best card on the market right now (hd3870) is not even as powerful as the 8800gt, and its only a little bit cheaper. Nvidia and Intel are bashing them right now. Which is a pity, because a healthy competition ultimately benefits the consumer - but right now there is only one choice for the enthusiast… and it’s not AMD/ATi
ps. i’m really stoked for the release of this card. I’ve been putting off playing crysis until this came out.
this new gts is gonna outperform gt …isnt it ?…
hmmm…awesome news then…xpectin a major price drop for gt !!!! …
althou wondering… y instead of improving 8 series…
y isnt nvidia ..launchin 9 series wid directx 10.1 support !
that’s gonna b the next catch ..isnt it ?
i like the card specially the cooling fan XD with the nice little kink in it. further more nVidia rules
Why is nVidia digging a grave for 8800GTX?
Because the GTX is showing its age, for a top end card that cant run moder games much better then the 8800GT
So sad, when the x800 series type cards came out ATI was doing well, as nVidia seemed to miss a leap when they were working with their 5600s and so forth. I like AMD and hope they can pick up the pace! I’m from Austin, have to root for em, and I like their processors, although I own an Intel as their Quads were out first and are excellent. C’mon AMD!!
damn just bought a 8800gt. oh well.
The gts will outperform the gtx as already stated. I have no idea what 1# comment is talking about.
Are these SLI compatible?
nice, i was tempted to get a GT but someone mentioned to me that they were going to do this card.
Glad I waited
8800GTX/Ultra replacement will come about, after this card release we should see the 9 series.
Also nice to see some more of that second gen purevideo.
I already have a 8800GTS 640mb, Crysis brings it to its freaking knees. This one seems like a much larger card or atleast it appears to look that way.
I was probably going to pick up a 8800GT… not anymore.
Well, its that or wait for the GeForce 9 series, or the 8900. Whatever they call the damn thing. The G92 sure isn’t going to be used for it, either way.
ditto …even i waited ..same situation pal..m sure 9 series will b out by jan mid ish… @ ckamc
quote kingof.. says

wat makes u say the G92 aint gonna b used in 9 series ? …ne info .. if ne…plz post..thx..
hmm .. i’m lost .. its been a while since i’ve been interested with hardware developments. But anyway , could someone give me a link or so with a brief overview of which series do what on both nvidia or ati ? I kinda can’t see the forest for the trees. All those different cards .. pf
..launchin ..new n more poweful gts…. so close to launch of gt…. n launchin new 9 series…so close to launch of new gts…. wat sort of strategy is this ?…what sense does it make ???….coz most ppl bot gt…remainin will buy gts…. so very few ppl will b left to buy 9 series….( generally speaking…) y wud nvidia do this ? … instead y not launch a mega powerful crysis kick ass 9 series card…after gt …. plz xplain their strategy wid valid reasons… thx..
I can pretty much guesstimate that this will cost a lot of money. I will wait. New does not necessarily mean much more unless you are a psycho troll gamer (no disrespect either to gamers). I guarantee their will be an answer by ATI, and for me ATI always seems to nudge NVIDIA on most cards. Lets wait and see till they all release and come up with some good benchmarks on tomshardware or such.
Im playing Crysis which sucks balls, With the new 8800Gt and its playing great on all high with a crappy dual core. Furthermore if I Sli the thing with another 8800gt it would be like having 17600gtultragtsgtx in the year 5010 lolololol hehehe
i have ATI Radeon X700 with 128 mb lol
but i am busy with building a new pc so that will be over soon,, ;D
just orded my XFX 8800 XT XXX !!!
waitin and waitin but!! the maximized GT is enough for me !
@ 20
Yes you can SLI these. If you have the money
Wait for the Geforce 9800GX2 next year, someday
And i suppose you all MUST play every game in a res like 1900X1600 in your super big monitors with full details, so a decent 8800gts320 or a 8600gts is just not enough for you people??? Come on, be honest, everyone is satisfied with a 1280X1024 res, even 1024X768, with full details on, and still a decent FPS rate with middle ranged cards, why spend your bucks in every card that they sell you???
You see whats going on, new VGA every six months, and games still playing on DX9!!!!!!!!!!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
it’s expensive to be a good player
i have to change my graphic card every month as you said
With my budget i’ll wait next year to buy a new ones
lol
Sorry #33, but on an LCD monitor I will NOT accept anything else then native resolution. And in my case that means 1600*1200, and for a lot of people 1920*1280 (24″ screens are really cheap now). So a decent graphics card is no luxury. Hell I can’t even play Crysis very high @ 1024*768 with my 8800GT …
#33 got a point there,everytime you buy a $300 card evey
6 moth new one comes out. when it going to end,
gaming company keep making games to powerful to
run on our pc.so you upgrade and again and again
gaming company and card maker working together
to make us upgrade. BS some use us have bills and
food to buy.
“BS some use us have bills and
food to buy.”
Stop moaning, I can’t afford a Ferrari, should they stop making them then?
Well I run Crysis on very high with directx 9 crackthing on 1024 x 768 on a 7900GT and it’s fine. Cutscenes are a bit choppy and had to turn off some shadows and lower draw distance, but plays well enough for me. I’ll pass on the 8 series and go straight to the 9’s when they come out. No real point for an 8 series when only a few games use DX 10 and ultra high resolutions aren’t supported by my monitor anyway so no need for too much DX 9 speed yet.
Maybe if I didn’t have a family to support I could afford to indulge yearly especially since US dollar is worth like toilet paper so with my Euros modern video cards are getting quite cheap indeed, but sadly I have to pass for the moment.
I’ll be waiting for the 9900 series before I upgrade again.
@Bush @38
7900GT running very high at 1024×768!?
IMPOSSIBLE!!! I have an 8600GTS and I am struggling on medium graphics!
Take a look at these benchmarks:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=854&model2=711&chart=313
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=854&model2=711&chart=303
Change whatever benchmark setting you want and the 8600GTS is at least as good as the 7900GT, but better.
All I can think of is you having a 1337 processor. What is it? I run an Athlon 2.4ghz DC. Or are those Crysis edits performance enhancing?
#33
(y)
as we say in argentina “tenes la posta”
every 6 moths we have a new card, for what? :S 5fps more?
I have an msi 8600gts, 1gb ram @ 1024*768
I´m the happiest man over earth!!
My 8600GTS plays all my games fine through my WS monitor @ 1440 x 900.
Company of Heroes in widescreen owns!
Yep, post a current hardware article and you will attract nubs like flies to sh1t.
#1 You are well below the level of “random”, a name change to “some_ignorant_internub_that_knows_nothing_about_graphics_cards” would be a much more fitting name.
#7 What planet do you live on? I just cant even address your statement because i cant tell if you are joking or not. A quick review of: enthusiast forums, stock prices for both companies, technology reviews, or benchmark tests will quickly show that Intel & Nvidia are CRUSHING AMD & ATI on all fronts. Since this is readily apparent to even the most staunch fanboys i can only surmise that you either A) live in a cave or B) Pull your information out of your ass. In either event a good solution would be to kill yourself.
#27 “alot of money” is in the eye of the beholder and at the $300-$350 price range listed in the article (did you even read it?) is what is considered “midrange” for Nvidia cards. A far cry from the $800-$900 cards that the “troll gamers” use. As far as ATI’s “answer” to this card that is somewhat of an oxymoron as ATI hasn’t been able to answer an Nvidia release since the X1000 series cards went head to head with the early GeForce 7xxx series and that was OVER 2 YEARS AGO. Ever since the release of the 8xxx series cards there has been no such thing as an “answer” from ATI.
and #33 why should everyone have to adhere to your spending habits? Furthermore who are you to speak for everyone and tell us what we are and are not satisfied with? And you clearly know nothing about hardware releases as you will notice AMD, Intel, Seagate, etc ,etc, etc all release new components every few months it doesn’t mean that you have to buy them all. Thats how hardware releases work its a constant revolving door of minor improvement, minor improvement, MAJOR improvement, minor improvement, etc, etc.
Anyway as far as my thoughts on this card i would personally wait until the 98xx or 89xx card(s) come out because they will be out Q1 2008. However if you really need to upgrade your GPU and Christmas might be the only window you have to get it then that is what this card is for; otherwise if you can wait another 60-90 days you will be greatly rewarded.
ǝuo ʇuɐʍ ı - pooƃ sʞool
nicely said jdizzle1337…i couldn’t agree more
im still surprised how many ppl are living in a cardboard box and never look outside
#9 please get your facts straight , I have a nvidia 7900 GT (CANT PLAY CRYSIS) and dont want to play it also on this card , caus this game is a delight to the eyes and needs to be played at the max settings , so better wait for the 9xxx series from nvidia
I imagine Alienware already makes systems with the new cards already in them. In fact heres a starter system…
http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pages/Area-51_ALX/area-51_specs.aspx?d=0&SysCode=PC-AREA51-ALX-R7&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT#pdp-nav
I configured one and when all said and done it was around 8,800 dollars. I would imagine just with the base system you could play almost all of the commercial games out there including crysis and GOW at full settings.
Its hard to find a 8800GT nowadays within the $269 MSRP. Now they release 8800GTS…. I hope they really mass supply them or hasta la puta XD
Oh lord I’m so confused. How is this different from:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130080
my 8800gts 320 meg works great i wont be upgrading yet.the only game i had problems slowing down was that russian you are empty game, although i had to run crysis on medium .
last yr i paid $600 for my 8800GTX to play Oblivion. Now i have to get a new card to play Crysis? lol.. gimme a break, im just a casual gamer now and only play about 5 games a yr. PC gaming is not what it used to be
360, here i come!
Uh, you bought that card a YEAR AGO. The fact that JUST NOW it’s becoming outdated is an amazing feat and demonstrates just how stagnant the video card industry’s been since ATI can’t compete against the Geforce 8-series too well.
And besides, a new game always comes out that obsoletes current generation cards, think of Doom 3, when it came out, not a lot of people had the hardware to run it smoothly.
#1 knows nothing about graphic cards.
you wait wait for this new gts, then the next gen comes out and your behind again.
you will never be in front but your bank balance will be behind.
this is the nature of the gaming beast.
#40 .. Where the heck you get that a 8600 beats a 7900 on a DX9 setup??
You gotta be smokin crack…
7900 will blow a 8600 outta the water any day of the week in a DX9 setting…
As far as Crysis not playing on a 7900 series.. that is bullox as well..
I had sli 7600GS 512meg and an AMD 3800+. And I could play Crysis on that with most settings on Medium. Average FPS was 30-40.. a single 7900 card would out perform my sli 7600gs setup… so I know Crysis will play fine on them..
I now have a evga 8800GT, and Crysis loves this card…
Yes the 8600’s are a sad card. If your thinking of getting a 8600 card go for the ATI 3850 much better some price i think.
#52 stop your damn crying. Your card runs Crysis just fine and if you have a good processor and memory you can run Crysis at near max settings with your card. Stop your uninformed bellyaching and whining because if you have an 8800GTX then this is definitely NOT a card that you would want to upgrade to as it would be a lateral move; this new card gets roughly the same performance (probably a smidge better) as your card its just a lot cheaper.
When Nvidia releases a new $600 card thats when you want to replace your old $600.00 card. Please stop the Chicken Little sky is falling bullsh1t. Just because Nvidia has released a new card doesn’t mean that everyone should buy it. This card is targeted at people that want 8800GTX performance but only want to pay $300, and they had to wait for over a year to get it. As i previously said if you already have an 8800GTX this is NOT the card for you.
@jdizzle1337
Once again, giving a very objective viewpoint on a release. Whether it is nVidia or liberals, jdizzle1337 is there to argue relentlessly that his viewpoint is the only one that is correct.
when will NV stop milking the 8800? its over a year old now and SLOW! we should have seen the 9000 series by now.
I ran crysis on my 8600gts and at 1280×720 (one size smaller than my native res of 1360×768) I had to run it on medium
but my bottleneck is my single core 3800
main reason I look froward to these new 8800GT and GTS is I am still on a budget, like the second gen of purevideo a lot for HD/H264 watching, and something to match up well with my next Q9450 with a nice 1080p tv
BTW
2007~2008 roadmap if you want to look, its rough but good info
http://www.techfuzz.com/roadmaps/2007.aspx
Hurry up red team the green team has had it too good for too long. Thats way 8800’s are still around.
59 I wouldn’t call my 8800gtx slow it a damm nic card. These so called 9000’s may turn at to be like 2900xt’s
What’s the point? A single one of these still can run a game like Crysis with all details maxed at 1680×1050. Until that generation comes out I’ll stick with lower detail settings with my now 2 year old X1900XT.
I don’t want anything that can’t chew up Crysis all by itself.
i was thinking of buying this card but crysis runs great on my voodoo 2 3dfx card anyway
lol
Seriously, I think the new 8800 GT is a better value. Really makes me wish I hadn’t gotten my 8800GTS 320mb when I did but the thing is hindsight is 20/20 right? In another year or two an even better card will come out and we’ll all be like “aaaaww dammit!!!”. So just enjoy what you have, and if you can’t then just buy what you can afford to make you happy again. Power-buying the latest and greatest isn’t for the masses, but at least it funds the research for better stuff, which eventually finds it’s way to us, the masses.
First and foremost i want to say my #57 post was directed at #51 not #52; sorry for the mistype #52
Next, #58 Lee Welton it is nice to see that your Republican backwater public school education has failed you again and that your reading and comprehension skills are still rudimentary at best.
My opinion can neither be absolutely correct or incorrect as IT IS AN OPINION. Needless to say posts #1 and #7 were made by absolute nubstacks and if you read this thread you will see that NUMEROUS PEOPLE WILL AGREE ON THAT.
I call them like i see them Lee Welton; sorry that you hate free thought, opinion, discussion, and debate. You should go read your Bible or attend a George Bush rally, or watch the TERRIBAD Republican debates that were on tonight. Do something that you are good at because getting destroyed by me in another debate should be at the bottom of your list
jdizzle1337 , you talk too much, you look like an disguised fanboy. And Lee Welton too.
As for the ultra-supreme-reign of Nvidia, you sure look like one of those kids that think that video cards are only made for your games… ATI as selled more than ever here in Europe, for example the RADEON HD 2600XT with the imbatible price of 140 Euros (around 120dls) didnt last one day in stock, sold everything. Just like one guy said above, if you pay that mouch money every 6 month (or less,) you dont know what hard living is.
As for AMD, the same question remains, equal power at half price, what kind of moron doesnt get it??
i got 4 of them , and 10 core cpu :p
I tried Crysis on my system last night. I got a new 8800GT 512Mb, 4Gb Ram, and 2.4GHz Dual Core AMD CPU, and it was… average at best.
I was running the game at 1440×900 with all settings on High (but not Very High) and at times it was choppy. I bought the 8800GT specially to play Crysis, and to be fair, Crysis eats it for dinner.
Perhaps I need to tweak the settings slightly, but surely a system of that spec shouldn’t have too much trouble running Crysis nice and smoothly. Am I doing something wrong?
:s
try not to compare crysis with the latest graphic cards, crytek said they developed crysis thinking in the past 2 years graphic cards and in the next 2 years of graphic cards, so expecting that you will run crysis maxed out and with 200 fps with a 8800GT or GTS is dumb, crysis will is going to be a great benchmarking game for the next years

4gb of ram? (vista yeh?)
not trying to flame you but i have 2 set ups one is my freinds
and ive tested the same card in both set-ups
amdx2 2.4 and c2d e6750
clearly there is a amd bottleneck going on,as it runs mutch faster on c2d.
i think thats youre problem there.
i run my rig with a 2900xt for 120 uk thats a bargin,it was a 2900pro but i flashed it to a xt.
i play crysis on all high, good enough for me.
after all crysis is just one game it will soon be forgotten.
as for all the other games i play max settings and lots of AA/AF example cod4 plays on my 2900xt flawlesly.
im no ati fanboy this is the 1st ati card i bought ever.
I’m getting the feeling I’m screwed with my crossfire-mainboard I just bought 3 weeks ago…
oh man… the 1gb version will cost a bomb… best get me a job and save save save lol
The gigabyte version will dramatically lower your memory cap unless you can hoist it and even then, it’s flimsy. Not even remotely desirable. Oh well, all the more fun to mock the rich idiots that buy it for the pose value
@68
your AMD CPU is not “average”, it is quite weak already actually
the cheapest below2ghz Intel 2Cores are atleast twice more powerful then that
@71
get a pair of 3850-s onto that and youre fine until next gen

oh shi- sry about that, it didnt came up after first two posts
Waste of money? Other than the HD3850 (which has finally usurped oldie but goodie X1950XT for the sub-$200 crown), this is probably the biggest bang for your buck.
I’m pretty sure GT/GTS/GTX/Ultra will all soon get phased to G92, or GTX/Ultra will wait for the next G8x evolution for a top-end refresh.
Good thing I only bought the 320mb version of GTS. Now this new GTS will blow everything away until the revamped GTX comes out with the 65nm =3
