If Apple and the Mac are losing steam, could someone please answer why they were one of the only tech companies in the world not to post a devastatingly disappointing quarter?

The majority of comments here are just infantile. Windows users have benefited for years from cross-pollination of ideas taken from Apple and vice-versa. The fact that the hardware now differs very little is immaterial. If "nubs" and "fanboiz" want to waste their money on a "teletubbies GUI" who gives a monkeys? Windows users can cite reports of better speed and cheaper custom builds and ubiquity and Mac users can harp on about better speed, reliable builds and security through obscurity.

Reviews will always be skewed, results rely on interpretation and opinions will always be the author's own.

I've used Windows computers since the day 3.1 came out and PCs way back into the early DOS days. Do I find them delightful and a joy to use today? Compared with what they were like, sure. In comparison to my recent experiences of OSX? Surely not!

Competition makes these massive companies look over their shoulder. Linux isn't threatening Microsoft's foothold and many would argue that OSX isn't either. But you can guarantee that the presence of this sort of competition in the marketplace makes your chosen platform better than it would otherwise be.

Anybody claiming that one is better than the other for whatever reason, is just making noise. Enjoy what years of competition have given you today.

You MAC Butt Boys need to get a life. Maximum PC did a test between MAC and PC just last year and since they dont take advertisements so they dont have to kiss any a^s and can tell it how it is...and guess what twits; PC stomped the heck out of MAC in every catagory including ease of use as well as what you can do with the programs written for it, in fact Adobe Premier Pro in Adobe CS4 beat the heck out of MAC's Final Cut Pro.

So sorry dweebs, your MAC fanzine is losing steam and will soon die when the world uncerstands that MAC's just cannot keep up with PC's anymore. And before you say squat, I did have a MAC PC and used it for about a year and gave it away and bought a PC and have never looked back as I have found the PC programs to be far superior to the MAC programs

The Mac vs PC war is like a never ending fight. with on once side, the mac users who want to tell the world how good is their Mac and even try to push people into buying Macs in some case, and on the other side, the annoyed PC users who tell them to STFU because they don't give a damn about Mac.

If Macs were really this good, EVERYONE would be using a mac by now.

the funny thing about Mac users, it's that from ALL the Mac people I've met or know(n), only a handful are honest objective people; the others are pompous elitist freaks who would kill just because you don't think the same as they do. ie: you don't like Mac.

OSX is good, just that most Mac users (and the Apple company marketing tactics) are just moronic Narcissistic freaks that give a very bad image to the remaining good people who like Macs and aren't trolls. Some of you Mac users need to stop worshiping Jobs and give more credit to somebody who also deserves it; Steve Wozniak.

AND stop worshiping a company that could be a LOT worse than Microsoft. If Apple was a good company, it wouldn't silently downgrade the quality of the hardware they sell to higher their profit margin. Or even sell Imacs with crappy hardware in it at a high price.

... and, just for the record, I'm really not a Mac hater, neither I'm a PC lover.

trojans are virus

"It is not a virus, it's a Trojan.
Meaning you have to excecute an Aplication, and then provide it with Admin user ans password in order to allow access…

So, as it needs human permission to work, it is not a virus."

I dont think anyone ever claimed that Macs were superior to PC's but rather, that people that own Macs are superior in intelligence and other ways to people that use/own Pc's . This ,of course, is a fact that has been proven with a study conducted, and cant be argued. Hope this clears everything up

@ nugget2407:

Try addressing the salient points, you clueless butt-nugget. I said they "used to be good for DTP." - NOT that they still are.

They're now superseded by powerful, productivity-driven PC software architecture & my point STILL STANDS: Macs are

"[...] simply totally redundant (& overpriced) machines for llama Jobs fanboiz - most of whom don't even know they're simply running *NIX on a teletubbies GUI…"

I'm glad Apple stopped trying to make crap hardware and finally realized... Hey those PC's are pretty fast! lets switch to Intel chips! SGI did the same thing Mac did switching to Intel and now we have the "fastest Mac's ever made" go figure! we have been using these since day one nubs! my big hatred to Apple is how fast they change their mind with hardware standards and when they make their own rounded DVI connectors and their own USB cable that has a little notch so you can only plug it into an old mac. It reminds me of Sony who makes their own battery's their own memory and don't follow any sort of hardware standard... I'm sure Apple will make it's own bluetooth soon and 802.11n like their PCIx they stopped supporting and when they only used SCSI drives and maybe they will change eSATA to some mac xSATA and only support that! you will never know with Apple... enjoy your disposable paper weights

PC gaming idiots. just download Crossover Games. it doesnt support ALL the PC only games but it does support the more popular ones. You dont really need bootcamp, you just have to know what you can do on a mac.

and if you are a mac hater, i bet you've never tried a mac before (like really tried? like using it for almost everything?) so stop being whiney and stfu!

oh yeah. http://www.securemac.com/ <-- never been easier to remove a trojan.

on your windows. i wonder how d hell you could remove a stupid virus. Reformat? well boo hoo for you.

I started out a Linux user, as I coudl never afford Mac growing up, and Windows was to expensive as well. I moved to Mac when i got some cash, nice computer, I started using windows about 2 years ago, and have not looked back. Main reason, JOB, i make more money developing on Windows, than I ever could on the other 2 combined. What is my take on it all? Now that Macs just use Intel, which I have hated since day one anyway, as I have always and will forever prefer AMD & nVidia, I see no use in spending the money on one. I have 12 computers in my house, most run XP. No infections since I have owned windows. If i had 1 reason, not to get a mac, and get a PC, its becuase I love AMD and have always hated Intel.
