New games from Rockstar exclusively for PS3
A totally new game franchise will be coming from Rockstar Games–creator of the Manhunt and Grand Theft Auto series–and it will be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 3. SCEA’s director of third-party relations, Michael Shorrock, wrote on the official US PlayStation blog, “As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios.”
According to Shorrock, “Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3.” He also said that the reason Sony locked the IP down as an exclusive deal was because it believed that it would “set the bar for the rest of the industry.” Recently, more and more titles which were previously thought to be exclusive to one console or another have been announced as multiplatform, including Assassin’s Creed, Fatal Inertia, and Devil May Cry 4.

all i need is MGS4, the new FFVII and FFXIII and the getaway 3 to be multiplatform… a boy can dream.
Rockstar don’t really do very well with franchises other than GTA, sure they get plenty of press but the games aren’t really big sellers and are normally a bit middle of the road.
Again “Only on [insert console here]” -games that come to PC after some time, and hopefully with some extras. I take it every1 here knows where we get our PC-games

You should check out their list of titles, the majority of them have been best sellers and/or scored very highly in ratings. They may be best know for the GTA series but have had a LOT of success with other franchises/IPs
people, people, u do remember table tennis on 360? a perfect example how one genre of game (gta) can lead to mass sales of another, purely through name (rockstar). table tennis is down as a bestseller? why? its cack! and i dont want to burst any1s bubble but i dont think the new grand theft will be to everyones expectations, its going to dissapoint. These companys should all be working together all they do is cost the consumer more and more and more, so they do release a cracking title for the ps3, then what all the people that bought a 360 now have to fork out again? its the same for this blu ray - hddvd war the only people that lose is us because we are out of pocket,they will all still make billions. sorry to go on, but the world is a corrupt place!
Grand Theft Auto 4 is going to disappoint us? You mean like
gta 3,vice city and san andreas? Last time I checked all those games were spectacular…you trippin, the next gen doesn’t start till rockstar says so.
The Table Tennis comment stands though - this new PS3-exclusive franchise could be a load of shit, so don’t too excited/pissed off just yet…
only chav teenagers care about GTA and such crap anyway, PS3 is a failure… nothing but boring sequels of the same crap they released on psx and ps2.

I’m glad they’re doing this so people with xbox 360’s (including me) don’t have something that the ps3 users don’t have. ( I have a ps3 too) so it don’t matter lol…
come on, vice city wasnt great, and gta san andreas was only great because it was the first real game to use the open city principle, now thats old else just cause would of been the greatest game ever. also the new gta, theres no planes,no jetpack, its no where near as the same principle as san andreas i dont want it to but really its not going to be all we want it to be. people will still be playing saints row!
‘home’ really is set up for people with way to much time on there hands, a virtual world to meet people, buy and sell goods, any1 ever heard of the real world? i got a 360 and live has never interested me, its a con how you can dl more levels for your games after payin forty+ quid for them and its sad for people who cant get their own mates round to play games with. maybe they should be out insted of locked in front of the tv?

If they wanna take all power out of XB360 it’s ” Only for XB360, Simple as that.
So if you turn that PS3 game to XB360 it just wouldn’t looks so good or less stuff on the screen or something. and other way.

you could probably make a lot of real money buying out game dev companies then pledging your support to the highest bidder. then again a single company (well apart from microsoft) probably wouldn’t pay enough to make it worthwhile, otherwise EA would probably be doing it!
johnmclane, is that all you care about is planes! OO jetpacks!! omg!!! wow those really were the best things in GTA… NOT. wow, the new GTA IV is going to have so much more in its gameplay, and not to mention some great graphics. And lots of detail that just makes the gameplay a lot better, and more realistic. So you should look up on the game, and do a little research before you talk… Some people will still be playing Saints Row cuz of online, or maybe not. We still have to see if GTA IV is going to provide online… So yea quit talking.
Might be bad news for us PC/other console people, might not. Depends on whether this new IP is good shit or bad shit. But as has been said, as long as we get GTA we’ll be just fine. It’s not like Rockstar (or most any developer) can make something that’s better than GTA, lol.
multiplatform ruined alot of games notably pc games,remember back when Sega and Nintendo were ruling the game market with the genesis and the super Nintendo games there was few multiplatform games and the best games at least technicaly were coded for one system.
The PS3 is dead. As soon as Xbox360 drops it’s price to about 250, you can seal the coffin on that over-priced piece of junk.
I had my brothers PS3 over the weekend and I have to say it shits on the 360 from a great hight (I’m am a proud 360 owner or at least I was) the PS3 has real internet (able to play youtube videos and the like, also able to install other OS linux…..so you can play divx :))
Fight Night round 3 is so much faster and a hell of a lot more fun to play than it is on the 360….as it’s way too slow.
PS3 is free to play online (and doesn’t really seem like it’s free….as I had no problems at all connecting and playing (and beating the crap out of a few people as Ali :D)
the controllers have their own power pack built in and are as light as a feather (well maybe not a feather….but you get the gist) plus it has Super Audio CD playback which I never even new about till I saw the little logo so I was happy
nice heat sensitive eject on/off switch. plus you can use your old PS1/PS2 RGB cable :D. HDMI (none of this buy the new elite to get HDMI bullshit that MS is doing)
60GB HDD, (to 360’s laughable 20GB HDD)
plus it has Blu Ray…..not some shitty little add on like the 360’s which just looks stupid.
and yes MGS4 and GTA4 will be great games to play (and Table Tennis was pretty good for the 360…..for a table tennis game…..no one else could do any better)

Whatever the outcome of this announcement, you can bet it’ll be on 360 about a year later. Exclusivity never lasts forever these days…
i have both ps3 and xbox 360, i like them both, but i do think the ps3 has the edge on the 360, visuals are alot better, ninja gaiden plays in 1080P, a first for all games (i think)
If you really think about it the only rockstar game that can turn the tides in the consel war is Grand Theft Auto and now that it is on both consels theres no competition. This deal with rockstar wont even help sony their blowing this way out of proportion like its another grand theft auto only for the ps3 and thats the only thing that will give sony an edge, but since the xbox 360 will have both halo 3 and grand theft auto 4 i think Microsoft will continue to out sell sony by hundreds of thousands.
