And just after our weekly serving of Top Gear, I am delighted to inform about this documentary pred by DiCH in mouthwatering 720p quality. Admittedly, it has been about 3 weeks since it was released but I only just got hold of it and there was another docu in similar series already posted so I decided to continue the trend. I have a feeling the comments will be lively but you still need to behave yourselves :P Want to know about the quality of image and audio? Really? It’s 720p HDTV, ’nuff said ;)

There was a man who cured the sick, performed miracles, was called the son of God and rose from the grave three days after his death. His name was Apollonius of Tyana and he was not unique. We ask why so many preachers and supposed miracle workers appeared by the Mediterranean around the 1st Century AD and why the cult of Jesus won out in Rivals of Jesus.

    Hopefully these also get released as XVIDs, a lot of interesting documentaries being released lately only in 720P. HD is great, but having the option to watch it on a cheap ‘Divx’ dvd player is good.

    James, please refrain from being ignorant on these boards. If you despise documentaries (as imbeciles are often prone to do), there are neat categories on the right side of your screen so that you can choose the releases that are more to your liking.

    Most of us highly appreciate these posts and would like them to keep up.

    I’m guessing from the synopsis was that there was a legend of a man with powers, but different groups of people wanted to interpret that story and a certain group won.

    i agree i love documentaries. Keep posting anything from the history or national geographic channel. I rarley comment but I have been seeing people whine in every one of these threads so i felt i should voice the fact that I enjoy these types of releases so you dont get discouraged and stop posting them.

    #20 What was the point of that? I think this documentary is less of a why Jesus won, and more of Jesus didn’t exist and the resurrection copied Apollo’s story.

    Before anyone bashes me for saying, “Jesus didn’t exist”. I’d like to point out that I am Catholic, and I do believe in God. I’m merely pointing out that, I think this documentary is trying to prove Jesus never existed. And I’m perfectly fine with that.

    well according the text written there it seems like they are saying Jesus did exist, and that his cult won some kind of contest…apparently.

    also it seems there were many Jesus’. Could it be that they were just trying to get famous and copied the real Jesus? Sort of like faith-healers on tv? who knows.

    @21, it’s 2 of 3 but 1 of 3 and 3 of 3 have nothing to do with the Jesus thing. Part 1 is Knights Templar and part 3 is something else semi unrelated.

    Religion is a way to fulfill humans’ spiritual desires and need to explore; that there is something out there that we have not seen and that we must find it. It’s a pity that a couple of morons decided to twist it to their own ends.

    The Catholic Church (a bunch of grumpy old farts) in the past constantly says that they are the ultimate authority on Cristian affairs and that people must listen to them (God does not need old farts to convey HIS words).

    Al-Qaede (basically it’s Osama bin Laden with a bunch of idiots) uses violence (Islam preaches tolerance and peace!!!) and Jihad (Jihad has absolutely no relation to the Quran whatsoever, it just an arab word meaning struggle) to get people to side with them (actually more like just one man Osama).

    Oh yes the Spanish Inquisition (good times)……

    check this site all the time just wanted to say:
    when people say ‘religion’ obviously 90% are from western countries so they are talking about xtian religions.

    Christianity and Catholicism are both total loads of crap, there is a small group of people lots of low-lives prey on, the JEWS, who were around since the beginning of these fake religions. Judaism, if someone looks into it has a lot to say about Jesus. Any source you find about Jesus is never correct, the encyclopedia brittanica shows that the first records of anything related to Jesus was someone in 524AD named something like Diginesus. The entire ‘religion’ is as some have said ignorantly (but ultimately truthfully) a ploy to control everyone and have power. It is sickening when one has all the information about the xtians and/or muslims what they can find out. Both are disgusting false lies that just makes people say:
    “religion sucks… there is no God…” etc etc…

    Religion is not fake.

    The creation of a religion or any belief (new age, paganism, or whatever) is a natural reaction to the realisation that we do not know how the universe works, why everything suffers, why we are here, what consciousness is, etc.

    Religion also taps into very powerful emotional needs in human beings for belonging, fraternity, feeling loved and necessary.

    The only reasons religion (or any other belief system) gets a bad name, is because they seem to attract people who think everyone else is either doomed, stupid, in need of saving or outright infidel and undeserving of the air they breathe. Also, of course, the long history of powerful people using religion for political, military or personal gain at the expense of practically everybody besides themselves.

    This of course makes the non-religious feel just a little put off by the entire concept. That’s understandable. But any group, religious or otherwise, has the vocal few who take things too far and spoil its image. That’s simple human nature, not a feature of any particular religion.

    Hence the saying: “Lord, save me from thy followers.”

    But if you think banning religion is the answer, what about soccer fan clubs who do far more damage per capita than any religion? Do we ban all social/political/religious groups where there’s a chance of a few idiots going crazy? Do we then ban pubs? Alcohol? Or cut to the chase and ban all destructive thoughts and emotions?

    Like any social order, religion will always be a part of human civilisation and we all have to find a way to live with each other’s point of view, whatever it may be. And most importantly learn from our mistakes and differences.

    Also, any documentary whose title contains the words “The Secret (of)…” or “The Truth of…” is bound to be complete and utter b@llocks.

    The History Channel / Discovery / Nation Geo have to pump out so much stuff to fill their series episodes, they come up with these totally idiotic subjects, quickly and cheaply done, to appeal to lowest common brow viewers.

    It’s not what I’d call “documentary” in the high quality, hard-fact, rational and informative sense at all. Compare this cr#p with a good BCC doco and you’ll see what I mean.

    religion itself is a sin all to itself, as it is a contradiction to itself. why? think about who wrote it and who keeps changing it. do you believe in God or your religion? a religion implies more than a belief, but a control over a people. then the fun starts, and the people use it for good and evil, to justify their morality and spirituality in any good or harm they do to other people. Think about how the bible tells its stories, more like riddles, that complicate any interpretation. Get a clue. Save me Jebus!
