National Geographic Naked Science Earths Evil Twin HDTV XviD-YT

I have a documentary show from group YT for you today, which is about Venus, enjoy!

Millions of years ago, Venus and Earth cut similar figures. Roughly the same size and about the same distance from the sun, their respective evolutions could have followed similar paths. But today, Venus is a seething vision of Hell, its battery-acid atmosphere and incessant, hurricane-force winds masking a blistering volcanic surface. Some scientists wonder if it is a harbinger of whats in store for Earth……

    Roughly the same size? Ummm, no, way back when Venus was a fair bit bigger then Earth. Then there was that little collision with a rogue leading to, among other things, Earth getting more heavy metals (id est, mass) and the formation of our moon — you know, that big honkin' thing, by percentage by far the biggest moon in the solar system, that Venus doesn't have?

    As for "about the same distance from the sun"? That's like saying your bank account is 'about' the same size as Bill Gate's. Venus is at around .723 AUs (granted, with a much lower eccentricity), Earth is (by definition) at 1AU — in other words, Venus is about a quarter of the way from here to the sun, hardly a small distance.

    As for similar evolutions, frankly drawing any such conclusion is idiotic. We have a few flybys, radar images, and a handful of Russian and American probes that lasted a grand total of minutes. Basically we know diddly-squat about Venus' evolution — how exactly it got to where it is today.

    What we do know is that Venus is substantially closer to the sun, has no large moon to create tidal forces, has an essentially circular orbit (as opposed to Earth's elliptical), and has a 'day' that lasts 243 Earth days. In fact Venus has a rotational period that exceeds its orbital period (id est, a Venusian day is slightly longer then a Venusian year).

    In other words, other then being somewhat similar (now) in mass and being in the same vague solar neighborhood, Venus in Earth have nothing particularly notable in common and only an idiot — and likely a scare-mongering idiot at that — would think that one could draw any useful conclusions about Earth's future by looking at Venus.

    May as well claim Jupiter is basically like Earth — They're both planets with moons! – and proof the eye is going to eat us all.

    Venus once looked like Earth does now, the same with Mars. Humans first inhabited Mars, up to the point where we caused global warming to the extent that we could no longer live there. We then moved to Venus, and did the same exact thing. Now we live on Earth. Guess what? We're doing the same thing AGAIN.

    @7 ESD
    if you actually did read the bible you would be saying the earth is just over 10000 years old.
    luckily we now know that the bible was created by morons, mostly.

    YeahRight:

    Maybe you should try actually watching the program before you render judgment. You based your entire rant off of a single paragraph summary, by an unknown writer.

    Anyway, shockingly, the program might actually share some knowledge with you that you're not presently aware of! (and thus justify the comparisons it's making) Gasp.

    They say Venus once looked like Earth but now looks like hell but I think it's the other way around. Earth used to look like Venus but after billions of years it looks like Paradise now. I think Venus might look become more hospitable in a few million or billion years since it's closer to the Sun it might take longer than Earth but then again maybe it'll be like that forever. Oh wait, the Sun is getting bigger so Venus doesn't have that kind of time.
