Interesting new documentary made by National Geographic has been released by DVSKY.

@2 : I can't really remember a war the US has actually won… probably the only contender would be the Pacific phase of WWII, but even then it did it with a bomb created by german scientists.

Also, the current makeup of the US army, which is based on squads as the pivotal unit, is a direct copy of the german army in WWII.

I agree with #1, in terms of scientific advances, it's hard to think of anything developed recently that is not based on advances the germans made during WWII, including things like the lithium ion batteries that power your cell phone, the microwave oven, and the GPS.

the germans created the first submarine that could shoot a missile (not a torpedo)under water during WWII, like an early ICBM. the US and USSR navy achieved that 20 years later. they also had the V2 rocket..That team of scientists invented the saturn 5 rocket that helped the U.S land on the moon..nuff said.

This looks good i'm definitely going to check this out, thanks vantec.

All this bickering about who is better, it's true that germans are brilliant. But if you want to get technical so are the japanese, the chinese, the british, the canadian, the french, and so on. Each respective nation has it's own sole reason for being the best.

But the huge difference between the united states and other countries is that. We can take a great idea, e.g; how are american forefathers once envision that great american nation would built upon the poor, the tired, and the huddled masses longing to be free. And to perfect it, to use it to solidify ourselves as the dominant civilzation in society we live in today.

But sadly that's also the reason why the U.S. is hated so much. Because we can also abuse it, wend to take that which is meant to be either brilliant or beatiful and twist it to the point were it becomes something terrifying and ugly.

    Here's something to think about:

The USA has never own a war on their own.

Most wars they have entered by themselves with no support they've either lost, ended in a stalemate, or pulled out for political reasons.

I think that has more to do with leadership than technology though.

Yeah (shyt). But all they developed after the war they got from the Third Reich technology in rockets , atom bombs , jets and more. The only reason that Germany lost was a much much bigger east and west army there the American forces was failing major in weapons. For example there was going three to four American Sherman battle tanks to take out on one German Tiger Tank and so on and on.But in the air the American forces was ruling the game with much bigger bomb planes and the Mustang PB51.But once again , how long if the war had continued !?.

Hey guys, I agree alot with #20 but,I think that the reason being is the fact that the USA is concerned too much about collateral damage. The only way to truly win a war is to completely destroy any and all opposition forces. Then rebuild it like we did with Germany and Japan.
also though the USA has a strong military just like Germany once did it doesn't mean as much as people think. Even a small relatively weak country could successfully strike the USA with something like an EMP or biological weapon and we would be screwed .
Another thing that sux about the USA is this year we cut military spending to levels it was at before the second world war.(Not a very smart thing to do)you cant always kill people off with kindness.

  32. Yotian
    July 8th, 2009 | 07:47

    @2.

FYI most of the stuff USA has is either stolen or copied armament wise. their rocket tech basis, from germans, jet engine basis from germans, their 2 stroke engines used in small UAVs from germans(parts of the engine[which germans stole from japanese]) and myriad of so called US weapons are simply mock offs from french, italian or swedish designs.

see the pattern here? The US mil rarely makes new tech of their own. even their stealth bombers and planes were based on pre-existed allready in use tech.

First off, The US tends to enter wars that are not as straight forward as WWII, and secondly, as the saying goes 'Necessity is the mother of invention' (or something like that) Sure the Germans invented a lot of incredible technology but that was because they had no choice but to pursue such things. There was absolutely no way they could have competed with the industrial capability of Russia or the USA. so there tactic was to build superior. USA and Russia used the strategy of building overwhelming numbers.

The poor assumption they made in the documentary was that it can actually fly well. They merely tested it's stealth to radar, then made a bunch of assumptions about how it could fly.

It is magnitudes more difficult to determine maneuverability than stealth ability.

Stimpie ignorance is bliss. It's truly a shame that the united states created the united nations twice and tried to foster cooperation in military operations to benefit everyone involved.

@62, "The realist" its true that wilson did indeed initiate the formation of the united nations (first called the league of nations in world war one) its just a shame that he also decided to keep a policy of neutrality and isolation, aka cowardice, until 3 years later in 1917 when the germans unrestricted submarine warfare started to affect the united states. Maybe if he had not been afraid to send his troops into trench warfare, it would have ended sooner. and as for the being jealous of america comment, i mean c'mon really?

  66. The Realist
    July 9th, 2009 | 18:24

@RP The policies of the united states before and after WWI were isolationist and it was the people that didn't want war. The American perspective at the time and most Americans would feel same if living during that time. Europe was still controlled by monarchies and it was really about historical hatred and quibbling nobles as it usually was or is.

The bottom line for both wars is would the nations that were supported survived without our intervention? No? I rest my case. This same logic applies to America during it's rebellion as without French and Spanish involvement and Indian things would have failed or been drastically dragged out or worse.
