Narnia Sample And Facts READNFO-mVS

Well there’s nothing like a big “fuck you” from a scene group every now and then, and that’s just what we have here. We know that a lot of groups steal from P2P and mVs promises to not be one of them, but I’m not sure if I want to believe that, although they might not do it as much as all the other groups I think they do it every once in a while. They also bring us a sample of the new Narnia movie, so maybe we can expect the whole this sometime soon. BTW the last paragraph mentions that they want proof that the AR was more than 10% off, well here it is: your rls was 624×240 which has an AR of 2.6:1, while the proper AR should be 2.35:1, which means the AR is off .25 which is 25%, so pwnd :D Might want to learn how to do simple math before arguing…

Here’s the message from their NFO:

“I would like to start off with a big fat american FUCK YOU to all the
sites that nuked us for “stealing from p2p”. Check all the p2p sites you
have now and see if this shit is on it yet you cunts. This is the same
video source as what happens in vegas. Here is a one minute video clip of
something that will probably be on torrents in a few hours but just to
prove we get the shit first here you go. We do not need to steal from p2p
we will leave that to the new groups out there like kamera. We do not
pre as soon as we get video since most of the time audio is capped after
since we do not want to waste our nights where we could be banging your
moms. Once again you may hate us but your hate only makes the mvs
stronger!!! (like the hulk) so all you poor traders getting nuked on our
rlses, feel free to tell your local nuker what a cunt he truly is, and
to feel the mVs cock up his ass.

As a side note, nukers trying to claim our vegas AR was 10% out, you
are a fucking joke. Make proof before writing shit like that. BTW we
know who you are and what grps you are related to, so think twice,
unless you would like to be schooled in the next mVs nfo.loly.”

you don’t need to be a maths expert to work out percentages LOL its basic maths learned very early in school. Even countries with a bad educational system can work it out.

wow what is with all this hostility? why do people hate marcelli so much. he’s just bringing us the news. if he makes a small mistake so be it. What marcelli was saying was that its 25% more than the vertical than it should be.

    i.e. Actual Aspect ratio is 235%:100% (Horizontal:Vertical)
This one on the other hand is 260%:100% (Horizontal:Vertical)

    260% – 235% = 25%

Now if you were to find the percentage “difference” that would be:

    25%/235% = 10.6%

I hope this clears marcelli’s standpoint.

    @marceli:

learn some maths. just because the difference is .25 doesn’t mean the difference percentage is 25. It will be calculated on the expected value i.e. 0.25/2.35*100

260%-235%.Jesus christ, from where did you come up with that?

    2.6:1 = 260%:100%
What the aspect ratio means is that the horizontal is 260% of the vertical. simple as that.

Let’s do this “simple math” the easy way, kids: 10% of 2.6:1 ratio is 0.26:1 ratio. This means that the AR of 2.35:1, at a 0.25 difference, is less than 10% off.

There’s a time to convert decimals to percentages, and this isn’t that time.

  37. Matt
    May 18th, 2008 | 07:20

    Woah, vitriole much!
I figure I’m going to add one more post to the maths debate, with a view to actually clarifying exactly what everyone is on about in relation to all of the different things being argued about. But before I do that, a few quick points:
    1. It’s not fair to be rude at someone *just* because they’re not good at maths.
    2. It IS fair to be rude at someone if they are not good at maths AND (depite that) they have (rudely) accused someone else of not being bad at maths.
2b. Doing that (being bad at maths and rudely telling someone else that they are) just makes you a person who is bad at maths AND arrogant as such it makes it perfectly reasonable to nail you for being stupid.

So, to clarify some of the maths involved.
    First:
A ratio is the same as a fraction. So (for example):
    A quarter = 1:4 = 1/4 = 25%.
A quarter refers to having one out of four possible parts of something. So, for example (in US currency)
A quarter is to have 25c out of the possible 100c (one dollar).
If you have four quarters, you have one dollar.
Thus 1:4 means you have one out of four possible quarters (to make one dollar). It is however possible to have more quarters than one dollar, so the ratio can go the other way:
If (for example) you have 6 quarters, that is a ratio of 6:4
So you have 6 of these quarters of dollars or 150c. ($1.50)

It is possible to express the exact same amount of money in many different ways:
    Eg. As a decimal: $1.50
    As a fraction: 6/4
    As a ratio: 6:4
And (as per our argument now) as a percentage:
    150%
So, the matter of how exactly you work out the percentage revolves around what your base is. So, if your base is $1, then your base is 100c (which makes it nice and easy to work with).
    So 25% of 100c = 25c
But if you had 25% of $2 (200c) then you would have 50c.
To go from a fraction (or a ratio, remembering that they’re actually the same thing) to a percentage you need to divide one by the other.
You ALWAYS divide the left (or top) number by the right (or bottom).
    So:
    1/4 = 1:4 = one divided by four = 0.25
Of course everyone is used to having “percentage” written in its non decimal form so it is multiplied by 100 to get to the more conventional “25%”.
Another way to say the exact same thing is to say:
    0.25:1
You are saying that you have one quarter (0.25) of a possible 1.
Wherever you have a ratio which is:
    X:1
X can always be assumed to be a percentage OF whatever the 1 is.
In the example of a computer screen, the resolution might be:
    1680×1050
This is saying that there are 1680 pixels across and 1050 pixels down.
Because some people like to express this as a fraction or ratio (how many across pixels there are for every down pixel aka “across pixels per down pixels” aka 1680/1050 we want a way to say “for every one down pixel there will be ??? across pixel” So they want to say ???:1 (??? across pixels for every 1 down pixel)
The best way to do that is to remember that a ???:1 ratio is exactly the same as saying ??? times 100 percent.
    So, if it is 1:1 that’s 100% 2:1 is 200%, 6.5:1 is 650% (etc).
So, how do we make it a percentage again?
    Our fraction is:
    1680/1050
    Our ratio is:
    1680:1050
To make it into a percent, divide the top (left) by the bottom) right and multiply by 100.
    In this case:
    1680 divided by 1050 = 1.6
    Multiply by 100 = 160%
    So, 1680 is 160% of 1050.
    This means the same as:
    - There are 1.6 across pixels for every down pixel
    - number of down pixels times 1.6 = number of across pixels
    - 1.6:1 pixel ratio

Remeber that our “1″ in that ratio is talking about the number of down pixels (1050) because we wanted to know: “how many across pixels are there for each down pixel?”. So “100%” or 1:1 would be a screen with a resolution of 1050×1050 (a square).

So, if we have two ratios and want to know the percentage difference between the two, how do we do it?

We’ll go back to using money for this one because it’s easier:
    If you have:
2.5:1 money, you have 250% of the “base” of money. Seeing as the “base” of money is 100c, having 250% of it means you’ve got $2.50.
    So 2.5:1 money = $2.50.
    If someone else has:
    3:1 money, they’ve got $3 exactly.

So, they’ve got 50c more than you, (3 minus 2.5 OR $3.00 minus $2.50) but do they have “50%” more than you?
50% is half, so if they had half more than you when you had $2.50 then they’d have to have $1.25 more than you or $3.25 total.
    But they don’t, they’ve only got $3!
So, we want to work out how much the difference between your money and there money is as a percentage.
So, we know they’ve got 50c more than you.
So you have 250c and they have 50c more.
    That’s 50c:250c
    So, divide left by right:
    50c divide by 250c = 0.2 = 20% more.
So, they have 20% more money than you, your money makes our 100% value, their money makes the 120% value.
So their money to your money (as a ratio) is:
    1.2:1
Or, for every $1 you have, they have $1.20.
If your ammounts were more complex, like for example:
    They have:
    $1285
    You have:
    $1190
You can work out one of two things from this if you like:
First: What their money is as a percentage of yours (so you can say “for every one dollar I have, they have ??? dollars”)
    OR
Second: What percentage MORE money than you they have.

To do the first, you decide who is important to you, put them on the right. So, if you want to work out “for every $1 I have they have $???” put yourself on the right. If you want to work out “for every $1 THEY have, I have $???” then put them on the left.

We’ll assume you’re working it out with you as the important person so:
    Them:you
    1285:1190
First (for every dollar I have they have ??? dollars??)
divide the left by the right
    1285 divide by 1190 = 1.0798
So, for every $1 you have, they have $1.0798 (almost $1.08)
This means they have 107.98% of your money or 1.0798:1
Or, if you want to work out “for every dollar I have, they have ???c more than me” you first have to work out how much more they have so you simply take you away from them.
    So:
    1285 minus 1190 = 95
Now, you’re still the important thing to look at so you’re still on the right:
    95:1190
    So divide left by right:
    95 divided by 1190 = 0.0798 (look familiar?)
That says that for every $1 you have, they have $1 plus an extra $0.0798 or 7.98c (AKA 7.98%)

Hmmm, that maths lesson was longer than it was planned to be.
I guess it’s bound to happen when you’re bored and at work.

Hope I helped some people to understand, lol.
(I tried to keep it nice and simple rather than simply stating the complex (albeit perfectly logic) construct)

just to add something educational to the mud sling fest: one normally uses the term “percentage points” to avoid the ambiguity. So the two ARs in question (260% and 235%) differ by 25 percentage points, and the former is 10.6% larger than the second. Both statements are correct.
Question is, which one is the basis for the scene rule? 10 percentage points or 10%? Being not part of the scene I honestly don’t know.

    Using Marceli’s logic:

    when 1100% becomes 1000%
you lose 100%, so you lose everything

    hahahaha

he should be an astrophysicist, he’d come up with theory of everything in no time at all, cause if you know everything, taking the percent of that from 0, makes you lose 100% of it, so it would therefore take no time to do anything. I took pre-algebra in 6th grade I know these things as well.

This is one of the funniest tit for tat rambling argument posts I have seen. Since this sites spam protection for posting is a MATH question itself I wonder how many people couldn’t add and who’s comments are therefore absent here :-) Sad but although percentages are a middle school question I guess these kids were skipping and at home playing Xbox instead.

    Hey, it’s “Schooled”-house Rock.

    Well, anyways, here goes.

Lets take 100 inches as the one in the aspect ratio, that means the 2.35 would equal 235, so you would have a picture 235 inches by 100 inches.

Also the 2.6, if we followed the same formula of 1 = 100 inches would equal 260 inches by 100 inches.

We take the larger value and subtract the smaller value and get a total which is 25.

Now, we take the 25 and divide it by 235. We get a total of .106, percentile equivilent is 10.6, which means that 10.6 percent of the picture is missing from the 2.35 AR.

I’ve always used the 1 = 100 in. formula when talking to people about pan and scan vs. widescreen. It does make a difference when they find out that, if they had a 100 inch high screen, that pan and scan takes 102 inches away from a 2.35 AR film.

old farts method we were taught at skool.

    pecentage = (difference/original)x100

    difference 2.6-2.35=0.25

    0.25/2.35 x100 = 10.6% difference of the 2.35 AR

bloddy hell… this movie is crap anyway, right?

err, lol mate, correct me if im wrong but the AR is 9.62% off, since 2.35/2.60 = 90.38%, 100-90.38 = 9.62

Marceli should be banned and never allowed to post. POS!!!

BTW the last paragraph mentions that they want proof that the AR was more than 10% off, well here it is: your rls was 624×240 which has an AR of 2.6:1, while the proper AR should be 2.35:1, which means the AR is off .25 which is 25%, so pwnd :D Might want to learn how to do simple math you idiots before arguing…
