MySpace removed accounts of thounsads users
Well, not that common users: MySpace.com said Tuesday that it had removed the profiles of thousands of convicted sex offenders from its website. The biggest social networking site on the internet said it took action as part of a programme to protect its young members from adult predators. But the move came just a day after eight US attorneys general demanded that the company hand over information about offenders from among MySpace’s 175 million profiles. The website, which is owned by News Corp, said it would not hand over the required information without a search warrant since that would violate the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
‘We are doing everything short of breaking the law to ensure that the information about these predators gets to the proper authorities,’ security officer, Hemanshu Nigam, said in the news release. MySpace said it was able to uncover the presence of sexual predators thanks to the recent development and installation of the first national database of 600,000 registered convicted offenders in the US. But the presence of thousands of convicted sex offenders among MySpace’s members is likely to raise further concern about the dangers of sexual predators on the site, which is chiefly popular among teenagers. The families of several teenage girls sexually assaulted by MySpace members are suing the company for failing to take protective measures.

Im glad something is finally being done about these Beasts on the net, the best thing that can happen to them is to let them go and tell everyone where they are.. Justice will be done .. Anyways on a lighter note could this new software accidentally suspect an innocent persons profile by the way the write on the se sights, thus targeting them as a sex offender and erasing their account or will an investigation be held then actioned, also what is they have no record and the software detects their patterns as suspicious.. hmm long debate this one — regRDS caLm..

I am assuming they are just going by the registered sex offender’s names, I doubt they logged all their IP adresses, or are reading over each profile for telltale signs, that would cost too much money.

Well some people (like me) use Myspace as an easy way to communicate with friends around the world, & also because almost every band/music producer has a Myspace these days, and if you are their Myspace ‘friend’ you will be able to read their bulletins and be kept up to date with what’s happening with new releases or tours. So you see, it can be useful. Just only add people who you know and band pages, & avoid the angsty teenagers and also the fake accounts created to advertise pornography!
(Oh yeah, avoid the paedophiles too, unless you’re planning meeting one and causing him some extreme pain.)
