My Kid Could Paint That DOCU DVDRip XviD-PreVail

Well what do you know, a non-STV DVDRip from group PreVail. Nope, this one actually looks worthwhile. This documentary brings out all that’s fun in the genre. It presents you with a story that is unique and engaging, and is sure to raise some eyebrows. It also can’t hurt that it has gotten an amazing score over at RT.

Synopsis: A documentary about Marla Olmstead, a 4-year old girl who has sold over $300,000 dollars worth of paintings. She has been called “a budding Picasso” and had been featured on several American news programs. The situation was looking bright for the girl and her family until CBS’ 60 Minutes aired an exposé suggesting strongly that the paintings were painted by her father, himself an amateur painter. With Marla’s family’s reputation in question, the filmmaker sheds further light on the situation where he is torn between his own responsibility as a journalist and the family’s desire to see their integrity restored.

    Marla Olmstead’s paintings - as authentic as a Brendan Joox link. Art - apparently like whether a file is considered in-sync - is highly subjective.

    Man, when I think about the things I used to paint in my diapers when I was still a baby. I could have made millions! Especially after a carrot-spinach mix, the colours where vivid and the composition almost made it flow of the ‘canvas’. If only I knew…

    Well, I guess I’ll have another chance when I hit 80something.

  32. noone
    March 1st, 2008 | 02:24

    why is this a fraud? just because now it’s her father who did those doesn’t mean anything, the people who think that it’s art are the ones to blame… it doesn’t matter if it was her, her father or an elephant…

    March 1st, 2008 | 02:50

    @33 noone

    Hehe… I thought that should be the obvious remark - in fact that point raises way more interesting questions than whether or not the girl did the paintings… Like how paintblobs become precious art depending on who threw them on the canvas.

    The best art is free imho and accessible to all - before anyone misinterprets I’m not talking about leeching stuff. There is this dirty old rusty trash container on which someone simply sprayed the words “you are nice/beautiful” (translated from “du är fin” in swedish)… It’s not pretty, it’s not complicated - it’s not even subtle :) but it sure made me smile. That’s genius…

    @4. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You can call anything art- but honestly, the whole ‘ranking’ system of “art” is really ludicrous, and you know? You can’t put a price tag on real art.

    You guys are missing the point of this doc. The whole point of this documentary is whether or not the father painted these pictures and passed them off as his daughters, not whether some 3 y.o.’s painting is considered art. Its a shame some people are writing this movie off as ghey just because of the topic. Same with the King Of Kong doc released the other day. Both movies are effective not neccessarily because of the subjects or topics involved, but beacuse of how it is presented to us, thus making an interesting documentary.

    Fantastic ! I was just looking for this documentary 3-4 days ago. Glad it popped to the surface here. Thanks Rlslog, u rock n’ roll, Bro. I don’t think this little girl made the paintings all by herself, in fact I think she probably only did less than 10% of the actual *work* involved. The parents have blood .. huh … paint … all over their hands ! ;-)

    What does compassion have to do with it? The little kid is lovely and all but trying to pass her for some sort of genious when all she does is play around with ink resulting in some colourful canvas is wrong. Imagine how it is to grow up with the pressure of having to be a genious when you’re not.

    So this probably spoils the documentary, but does she actually paint the paintings or not?

    Or does the documentary atleast answer the question of whether she does it or not? Or do you have to come to your own conclusion about it?

    I don’t think coaching matters much, because the kid is learning and teaching her how to do something she loves better than she’s doing isn’t a bad thing.
