MTV and EA officially reveal Rock Band 2
There’s nothing quite so rock and roll as a reunion tour, a fact underlined by today’s announcement of Rock Band 2, which will see MTV Games and Harmonix once again team up with Electronic Arts to put toy instruments and games on shelves across the nation. However, unlike last year’s series debut, Rock Band 2 will be very selective about which shelves it appears on. The game will debut on the Xbox 360 in September, and after a North American “exclusive launch window,” it will find its way to additional unspecified platforms by year’s end. With this year’s installment of Activision’s rival rocker Guitar Hero going head-to-head with the full four-piece band concept, Rock Band 2 is making a few upgrades of its own. First and foremost among the details revealed today is that the sequel will be backward compatible with the original Rock Band’s downloadable content, with no need to repurchase or redownload it to the system.
That makes for a sizeable potential Rock Band 2 library right off the bat, given that the Rock Band music store currently has more than 200 songs available, which have garnered some 15 million paid downloads since the game launched in November. Furthermore, Harmonix will be offering “new and improved” drum and guitar controllers with new features and designs, “all fully compatible with original Rock Band instruments.” The game’s tracklist will consist entirely of master recordings, and Harmonix is also promising new online modes with a greater emphasis on the Rock Band community’s social aspects. More details about Rock Band 2 will be made public at this year’s E3 Media & Business Summit.

Let’s hope the instruments aren’t such pieces of crap. I bought the new wireless guitar for the 360 (it does look sweet I have to admit) and instead of making the strum bar clicky, they made the frets clicky. Wtf? Worse, one of my frets doesn’t respond. Horrible.
wow MS must be scared about the dying system to force people to buy it for the 360 first when people really want it for the best system PS3

Oh come on microsoft buying out Harmonix so they release it for your console first. Gahd. I own rock band for PS3 and I am still playin it on a weekly basis. I’ve played on both consoles and I must say it runs alot more smoothly on PS3 than on Xbox 360. One complaint I do have however is that none of my Guitar Hero Guitars work on Rock Band for PS3 but they do for Xbox 360. Hopefully they fix this for Rock Band 2 so then I don’t have to buy anything new except a drum kit for GH4.
People are still infatuated with these glorified, overpriced Simon Says games and their plastic, shiny gimmicky controllers for 5yos? FFS, grow up and pick up some real games already…

I honestly think that for rockband the technical differences are not noticeable…all ive seen is better anti-aliasing on the ps3 + less pop-up and thats with the best games rockband will work smoothly on both.
but hey the ps3 will get it soon enough and Wii just got rockband #1 so go play that on your glorified repackaged gamecube with gimmicky controls..OH YEAH!

PS3 doesn’t die half as much as 360. This game will be released for PS3 also, the 360 version will be in September, PS3 will be out later 2008. rlslog a little slow on this one, this was announced this morning.

@13 Let me make a little correction for you there mate; the PS3 has several good games and yes, people will be using them more for games now instead of blu-ray players. But this is just the icing on the cake so if you can, please wait for the PS3 game library to bloom and grow… same as what the first generation XBox 360 owners did with their first faulty console.
In a way this is good… the XBox 360 version will come out before the PS3 version… allowing Harmonix to fine tune and tweak it more.

PS: I play real instruments (keyboards, drums and guitars), and find Rock Band and GH-type games to be a welcome distraction that allows a person to learn the rhythm and timing of different styles of songs…with a whole band backing you! Remember…it’s just a game!
How about they release Rock Band 1 in all regions before they bring out #2?

Your an idiot. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are games, just like all the other games you play. Some of us don’t want to waste 2-3 years of our life learning to play an instrument just barely passably so we play games instead. Most guitar players are only fair to passable players, and yes that includes most drummers as well. Yes, I do play an intrument, percussion, and yes that means more than just drums. I still enjoy Rock Band and Guitar Hero anyway.
