MPAA Mastermind dead at 85
The kingpin of an organization that ruthlessly rules the movie industry, Jack Valenti, dies in Washington, DC one day after checking out of a hospital in Baltimore, Md. He had been hospitalized last month following a stroke he suffered. Too bad Dr. House was not there to torture him. He was better know as a perpetrator in ‘nazi’ like tactics in giving corporations more power over copyrights and distribution – which was just a money grab. “I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone.”
If the MPAA is all ready not greedy enough, it likes to put propaganda ads in the theaters, blame everything on piracy and wage war against its own consumers. If that was not still worse enough, he was also a special assistant to Lyndon B. Johnson. Movies to learn more about J. Valenti would be This Film Is Not Yet Rated. He also loved to love DRM, which we all love to hate.

I have little doubt that Jack made a small number of very poor decisions in his life that adversely affected millions of people, but to label him “evil” and “corrupt” is going one step too far.
At the very most you could call him “wrong” which is an affliction we are all prone too at some point.

The simple fact is, that the MPAA has no standing to sue anybody for shit. If I download Spiderman 3, and the MPAA sues me, they can go fuck themselves, it isn’t their Intellectual property. I could have it dismissed under 12(b)(6). Even if Columbia Pictures sues me, there are ways to defeat that. This is why we are all doing this with impunity. The only people paying (or refraining from downloading) are dumbass pussies who piss their pants that kike Valenti will sue them. Fuck him and his dead body. After years of suing grandmothers, children, and the deceased, the RIAA is finally facing some payback for its inane approach to increasing its revenues: Disabled mother Tanya Andersen is launching the first class action lawsuit against the RIAA and the Big 4 record labels for a variety of causes, ranging from negligence and fraud to intentional infliction of emotional distress and RICO racketeering violations.
Given that the RIAA has sued roughly 30,000 people to date, it’s hard not to imagine she’ll find some takers who want to hop aboard the bandwagon and put an end to the group’s often malicious and always tragically misguided lawsuits.
Andersen is one of the few people who have gotten into a courtroom with the RIAA (most of those sued have settled). After a two-year battle, the case against her and her eight-year-old daughter (at the time of the filing) was recently dismissed. Her counterclaims have been ongoing, but her class action suit is a new addition to the mix.
In an unrelated case, another RIAA lawsuit defendant, Michelle Santangelo, is suing AOL and a family friend: She was targeted by the RIAA, she says, for KaZaA software that the friend installed without her knowledge. But she’s also holding AOL accountable, saying it should have filtered any potentially illegal traffic from going over its network. Interesting case, though probably not one she’ll win; I’m sure AOL’s terms of service note that it does not filter traffic, no matter what you’re doing.
Regardless, it’s nice to see some of the victims of these lawsuits striking back. The RIAA has had free rein in the legal system for far too long, and it’s time it started defending its actions instead of just being left alone to make accusations through its freewheeling, strong-arm tactics. Go Tanya!
