MP3s will be sold without protection
The strength of filesharing “industry” is clearly visible and has first serious impact on music distributors: Executives of several technology companies meeting at Midem, the annual global trade fair for the music industry, said over the weekend that at least one of the four major record companies could move toward the sale of unrestricted digital files in the MP3 format within months. Most independent record labels already sell tracks digitally compressed in the MP3 format, which can be downloaded, e-mailed or copied to computers, cellphones, portable music players and compact discs without limit.
For the major recording companies, however, selling in the MP3 format would be a capitulation to the power of the Internet, which has destroyed their control over the worldwide distribution of music. Until last year, the industry was counting on online purchases of music, led by Appleās iTunes music store, to make up the difference. The EMI Group said last week that it would offer free streaming music on Baidu.com, the leading Web site and search engine in China, where 90 percent of music is pirated. While this is still not a big change, it’s a good step for these people who pay for music crazy sums of money – paying for something which can’t be played, copied or modified was completely against nature, so we should consider MP3s as a good progress…

Finally people start realizing that file sharing cannot be stopped. Maybe they can stop few file sharers, but cant stop them all hehe. I heard also some rumors that Italy legalized file sharing today or yesterday, based on a some part of EU’s law which says that file sharing is allowed so long the sharers don’t make profit from it. So be happy and keep seeding
i just love downloading a torrent
folder…
covers…
tracks…
nfo…
just great!
even if they did offer DRM free music, they probably wouldn’t include the covers, info, and other things the customers would want. not to mention, it would most likely cost more to buy the album online than the CD at a store. the music industry is just retarded like that.
Yeah, like if I don’t have the cover of an album, I can’t listen to it… Don’t get scared with this DRM thing people, cause someone will pay for a DRM protected file, and while listening to it, it will record it in an mp3 format and make available over you favorite file sharing community, just for the fun of it, or just cause he got pissed because he payed for something he can’t listen where he wants or how he wants.
i think by the way the E.U has been talking lately and with the way mircosoft has behaved with this horrific invasion of privacy (vista) we’re going to see a LOT more GNU Linux in our schools, colleges, government buildings etc as well as in business. The E.U are strongly pushing the opensource model. The home user market is bound to mimic this.
So i really do think for the first time m$ is dying and becuase of all this laws on file sharing are bound to be relaxed, mainly because most of what people share will be considered open.
(in the E.U anyway)
This step would certainly make me start to buy music online, provided it wasnt a ridiculous amount and was priced fairly.
The one MAJOR thing that puts me off downloading music online is this dreaded DRM!.
If i Purchase a MP3, I should be able to do what I want with it and put it on however many devices, computers I wish, after all ive paid for it!!
Finally the recording labels are coming to their senses.
First of all, those who call them self “Artist” and are not really still make’s $$$ and lot of… market change 3 decades ago so you can’t not just buy the single (North Amerc.)you got to buy the complet CD and most of the times 1,2 maybe 3or4 songs or tunes are worth it! and you pay a lot for a CD …NO I say they make alot more then the doctors, lawyers, enginer and more $$$ sport athlets in general for the playing guitards and stuff…Still they get along pretty good beleive me,anyways I have no probleme to sleep at nigth because of MC or MPxxx can’t not buy easely for the third house and Bla Bla Bla,
