Like many others this software doesn’t quite do what I want it to do!

Does anyone know of a program that will allow you to catalog movie files on your hard drive and let you have a brief synopsis of the plot along with a “cover shot” or other photo to represent the movie? It would also be nice if you could just click on the listing and launch the movie in your favorite player.

    Happy Holidays!

    @12 (CHAZ):

Take a look at Med’s Movie Manager. Open Source. I’ve been using that for the last year. It has it’s drawbacks, but it’s pretty good. Also anything that you request will usually be implemented rather quickly (open source, and the original creator is very active in the forums there).

I’ve never found this sort of programs useful… Maybe mp3/cd collection, but movies no.

BTW, Stargate.The.Ark.Of.Truth.2008.Screener seems to be leaked! There’s an xvid conversion out there, but I believe the original is in x264. :)

    December 26th, 2007 | 17:42

i gave this a try, i been using Movie Collector for a while…in my opinion, whatever software your using at the moment to keep track of all the movies you have, keep using it & don’t bother switching over to Movie Label…well Movie Label looks like and is setup just like Office 2007…the big problem i ran into is that i had problems importing the database i had already made with Movie Collector…Movie Collector can export into xml & text files, both supposedly could be imported by Movie Label…Movie Label only supports xml files from DVD Profiler (another movie catalog app)….the text file didn’t work either, i was able to import it into Movie Label but the title of the movies, description, nor box covers would appear….basically this software is good for folks who doesn’t have software like this already, but if you do & you want to use it then you will have to re-enter all the info again from scratch….

can any1 name a program that will AUTOMATICALLY search your hard drive directory with movies and add the information on its own? don’t really feel like typing the name of 500+ movies into a program.

DVD Profiler and Collectorz have been posted on this site before. All you have to do is a search to get them.

I prefer DVD Profiler to any other b/c of the look and feel and ease of use.

I will try this just to see how it works.

  32. December 26th, 2007 | 19:54

    @ chaz & yoyoyo

    Movie Collector supports that.

Right click on movie you want to edit - Edit Movie -> choose Links tab, Under Local click add movie file, then browse to the movie location. Save changes. After that when you click on that movie under description will be links named Movie Files, click on that and movie starts. ;-)

Collectorz.com has also a Mac Version of Movie Collector.

For the guy who asked about a Game Database Software - go to Collectorz.com and look for Game Collector.

In my opinion this Movie Label Software is crap. I tried it and I think it’s not even in alpha status. Don’t waste your time and don’t even think about switching from your trusted database software. This one needs a lot of bug fixing and polish - don’t judge from screenshots.

I downloaded this app but couldn’t get it to install is there a key gen without downloading the whole thing? Ill get the trial version cause this looks to be one good app..

  38. Mindless
    December 26th, 2007 | 23:30

Tried it and the software works fine. Although pretty good, the problem is that it’s not possible to import files from harddisk. This will save hours of extra work. Now all have to inserted by hand. All other possibilities are great.

  39. Dosha
    December 26th, 2007 | 23:53

So given that we are all a bunch of xvid downloaders - which software program will index our stuff? I really don’t want to be manually adding movies one by one and all that nonsense. I have a “Movies” folder and inside it - I have each movie in its own folder eg:

    /Death.Sentence.DVDRip.XviD-iMBT
    /I.Am.Legend.REPACK.DVDSCR.XviD-iMBT

I just want to be able to point the main movies folder to the software program and then get it to read the sub folder names and take its best guess or nfo or whatever and add the movies into the database. So whats the program that will do this? Thanks!

  40. liquidmonkey
    December 27th, 2007 | 00:24

@39 i’m with you on that

so….i just spent 2 hours checking out various movie organizer apps and this is what i came up with so far…
my words of ‘auto import’ mean that you can manually search your HDD and select one or multiple movies to add.
‘no auto import’ means you have to enter the title of each file which would take me and many others, days :(

    ant - no auto import
movie label - no auto import
meds movie manager - auto import, slow, ok layout
extreme movie manager - could not import anything
movie collector (collectoz.com) - no auto import, GREAT layout!
    dvd profiler - crap layout
griffith - no auto import, layout is ok
mediaman - no auto import, good layout
dvdpedia - looks awesome but only for mac, no other details
all my movies - auto import, very slow, layout is ok, froze up my PC

after all of that i didn’t find one app for winXP that would do everything i wanted.
movie collector looks GREAT but it would take a long time to enter everything. too bad that ‘dvdpedia’ was not out for winXP, macs often the best apps for audio and vidoe.

sorry mods if this is off topic but it would be cool if there was a discussion forum for apps, then when apps are released we can check out the forums for reviews of a few similar ones.
    love this site!!!

Is this any good? I do movies for friends at work and my relations. After watching them i normally delete them off my hard drive except if it a movie i want as a collectors one.I saw the emporium one in theatre last week with Dustin Hoffman when you upload the dvd id add it to my collection to keep.

    Ive tried

    Collectorz
    DVD profiler
    Extreme movie manager
    Ant movie manager

I only liked collectors, and now that i tried this program, it blows ALL of them away. Its so much easier to use than the others.

    It even does tv series.

good little prog didnt take too long to catalog 355 films. what i want to know is how the search works id like to try an find films that are due out for this year an have them in a separate catalog im a proper movie madhead always watching them nearly everyday. i know there are sites about comingsoon.net imdb etc but sometimes they arent accurate with the release dates.

Very nice… You can add movie path with this one to :) under “others” in the edit meny and select Movie File Path

But cant find a way to play it… To be able to have an play button..you need to add the movie under trailer..

No program will have 100% of what u want. Find the best that works for you and be happy. I have tried this along with others and I prefer DVD Profiler.

For my DVDProfiler can work on my PC as well as my cellphone so I stay up to date especially when I am in blockbuster trying to remember what I have and have not copied. I like actors pics included and everything else. Plus you can upload different layouts that they have, others have made or make your own. Easy to use and to import it is extremely fast and you dont have to worry about spelling the movie right…it will give you closest matches.

I tried collectorz but it takes for ever to add movies and look stuff up. Great for my 500GB porn collection and getting all that info but otherwise it isnt the easiest nor fastest.

Not a bad program but takes a while to add movies and update the database. I am now trying MeD’s Movie Manager and it appears to be the best so far. Each to their own I suppose.

For those who are having problems with typing the movie names into the applications you should try importing the list.

I use 2 simple applications firstly to “normalize” my filenames and directories and secondly to create a list of the files within the directories. I use these for my music collection (+- 32000 songs) and for my movie collection (+- 1200 movies)

Lupas Rename 2000 - Allows you to rename folders and files easily and includes the use of wildcards.

ListMaker - Creates a txt files of the contents of folders with plenty of options

I followed your recommendation for ListMaker and downloaded it from http://www.listmaker.cc

Are you aware that there’s a trojan horse Bifrose-BHS in the installation package? (found with Avast)

I would strongly suggest everyone stays away from that program.

The version of ListMaker I use is from Koolguy (Koolguy’s ListMaker) and I have no problems with Trojans or the like. Dont think the one from listmaker.cc is the same. My apologies I should have been more specific. I have not tested the link below but this is the correct applic. With a name like ListMaker there was bound to be more than one with the same name.

    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads/index.cfm?categoryid=1502&itemId=5352

Since my last post I have downloaded Collectorz.com Movie Collctor and must say that this beats MeD’s Movie Manager hands down so much so that I paid the $ and got my own license.

MythVideo for those that dont know is the ultimate media center! It grabs the IMDB movie cover, plot synapsis, director etc etc if it can automatically, otherwise u type in the IMDB id and off u go.
