Mount and Blade-SKIDROW

http://www.releaselog.net/uploads/e69b36acd6db19b152feecbba03d0bbb.jpgSKIDROW brings us this pretty interesting looking RPG. I heard of this game ages ago but never bothered to download the free trial that is available on their homepage, but looking at screenshots it looks like it could be a decent RPG for only 835MB :)

War has come down on Calradia and war attracts its own bunch of misfits. Men ride to war, for one or other reason. Some because they are looking for thrill and excitement, some because they are desperate and know no other way. Some because they are so bitter and hateful that they are willing to unleash doom on earth… And yet some, because they are the very heroes who will step forward to stop that…

Combining a sophisticated, dynamic game world and intense medieval swordfighting action, Mount&Blade has you venturing through a world filled with daring enemies as well as friendly groups that will come to your aid or need yours. In a land torn by constant danger, raids and skirmishes, you will raise and lead your own war band, commanding dozens of hardened soldiers. You will hunt down your enemies following the tracks they leave behind. And you will fight epic battles where arrows cut the air with deadly hisses, axes and swords hack with fury, and horses and men clash into a violent melee.

This is actually one of the best games i’ve played in the last year. I’d recommend it to everyone who likes action/strategy based games with some depth and new gameplay (that’s something very rare these days).

The price is moderate for the gameplay you get, the demo lets you play quite a while (like 2h or even more).

It is a great game indeed its no ordinary RPG RTS Or Action game its not exactly made for console action fans but if you like deep games you shouldnt miss that one out.

Woot? 800mb? It used to have around 80mb when I last played this. By the way this game is awesome despite of it looks. It´s a very good mounted combat simulator too.

I found this piece of gaming to be quite addictive already a couple of years back and I bought the licence after trying out the demo. I recommend all who are interested in RPGs to atleast try it. It’s a shame to see this particular masterpiece game to get cracked, but I hope people support this team after trying. =)

    October 13th, 2008 | 19:25

This is a game made by independent minds, not a huge company like EA. For that reason alone, and the fact that the game is so good, I’d highly urge people to buy a license and support these guys. It’d be nice to see the underdogs doing well for once.

  20. if you like it buy it
    October 13th, 2008 | 19:25

    @18

Actually team was only 2 people if they havent substitued another one. Game coder and his sister. If you like this game and wont support them in anyway this could be their last game i know.

well ive never played and always thought this game looked LAME as f*** but after looking at some trailers for it you actually have to customize your char and hire ppl for combat and stuff which i personally think is pretty awesome. the modding community says they have improved the gfx in it + some extra scenarios. so since nothing els big is out yet im diff gonna check this out

Using the mod Battle Sizer to up the amount of combatants in the field REALLY makes this game come alive! I bought a licence a year ago when it was in its beta-stages. The turk couple really succeeded in making this game get a trustful following, so no seedin’ from me this time around. I’d rather find me some mindraping EA game to seed…

This is a very good game made by some seriously nice people. If you like this game buy the license, its one of the best value games ever, i bought the beta for $19 ages ago, dont regret it one bit.

I bought this game for about £5.50 back in about mid-2005 when it was still in early development (was cheap due to you ’supporting’ the development stage). Well worth the purchase.

The retail game costs anywhere from 30-40 (US $). If you get it online or find it on Amazon it’s 30. If you pick it up from BestBuy it’s 40.

I played the .960 version with the “Uniloader” after trying it in demo mode. It seemed ok in demo mode, but the game really opens up more than just the demo can show. Thoroughly enjoyed the game so I picked myself up a copy. Cool thing about retail copy is you get a map/poster, plus you get a key for a digital download of the game should you lose/break the CD. There’s also a big mod community already, expanding replay-ability.

It’s nice to be treated like a customer rather than a “pirate” ala. EA.

  48. null
    October 14th, 2008 | 04:31

A question if anyone can answer it. How is this release (retail, so I assume it is version 1.000) more than twice the size of the 1.003 installer that is hosted on TaleWorlds own site?

  49. f00b4r
    October 14th, 2008 | 04:40

    @null…
I can’t answer your question, but I’m looking at my retail copy and it’s only 459MB with DirectX with teh setup.exe being 380MB. Something sounds fishy… or perhaps they packed it twice by mistake.

Again to all who are downloading. Seriously, buy this game if you like it.

I think you’re right about their packing some files twice. The installer you can get from TaleWorlds is also 380MB.

  54. answermyownquestion
    October 14th, 2008 | 05:34

    (4) What are mimimum system requirements for the game?:

You would at least need a graphics card with “hardware transform and lighting” and, say, 32 MB of memory (Any kind of geforce would do).

    so no pixel shaders.

I’ve been playing the BETA of this for ages.. this game is awesome, and addictive as hell.. I like just riding around from town to town competing in the arena tournaments to gain money.. Seiging is allright but last time I played it still needed some work.

  56. DanJar
    October 14th, 2008 | 09:10

@47 you really need a lot more mercs to seige a castle, around 80 - 100 should do for a not so well protected one, if you can become the controller of a kingdoms army you can get help from other lords that roam around, that can make a difference in storming a castle.

  57. McVily
    October 14th, 2008 | 09:15

Once again, It’s proven that you don’t have to put tones of “great graphic”, have studio of 200 employees, budget of 5M dollars or more… what it matters is will game provide you fun or not…

And this is prove there is still guys with Idea out there, that are not swallowed by EA, put to shackles and forced to produce 2 expansions per year…

After some time, this game actually put smile back on my old-gamer face ^^

this game is awesome. I’ve been playing it for like 30 hours now and still not bored. Not like all popular games - 6-8 hours and delete.

Such great game without marketing will go to waste. Total war series go hide. Medieval and shogun series really provied little possiblitity to use tactics anyway.
