OK here are some lesser known / budget games that i didnt think needed a full article. Not for everybody but they were made for certain core markets so that means they should interest at least a few people.

If you’re into grand strategy ww2 games, HOI is the absolute top. Besides the add-ons there’s tons of mods from a very creative community. It’s one of my all time favorite games.
Basically you control a country (be it Germany, Belgium or Mongolia), start at 1936 and guide your country through thes troubled years. Design & develop weapons, raise armies, forge alliances, etc, etc, etc. A lot of these games say these kind of things. This game makes it all come through.

If you don’t mind games that have crappy graphics, almost no sound, and are exceedingly difficult then Hearts of Iron 2 is for you! Personally I’m not a strategy games expert, but the games by Paradox Interactive (HoI and Europa Universalis at least) are magnificent and lots of fun to play once you get the hang of it.
I grabbed the game at a games store for €10 and at the moment my friend and I are steering Germany and Italy into the war and it’s great
Mission Combat Force doesn’t look bad. Too bad it requires FSX.

There is a 1.7GB Bioshock rip floating around and all they ripped was the movies (of which there are like none in the game except for a trailer, mutant power intro vids and the (piss poor) ending movies).

You just can’t say HoI2 sucks. You might not like the genre, but in its genre it’s an awesome game. The game rocks, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
Hoi2 is real time which makes is stupendously shit for a grand strategy game.
Real time in which you can pause at ANY time during the game you mean, which makes it PERFECT for a grand strategy game?
