Moon Machines in the US and UK is a Discovery Science Channel HD documentary miniseries consisting of six episodes documenting the engineering challenges of the Apollo Programme to land a man on the Moon. It covers everything from the iconic Saturn V to the Command Module, the Lunar Module, The Space Suits, The Guidance and Control Computer, and The Lunar Rover. It was created by the team who made In the Shadow of the Moon in association with NASA to commemorate the agency’s fiftieth anniversary in 2008.

Of course the moon landings weren't real. The max computer memory available for the Lunar Module in the 1960's was 152kb, which was 10.3% of a modern floppy drive. To think that we traveled 59,900% farther than any space mission prior to or afterwards 6 consecutive times with with no fatalities or even injuries is just ridiculous. It just wasn't possible with such limited technology. To put it in layman's terms: it was much cheaper, easier, and safer to make a MOVIE about landing on the moon, than to actually do it.

Kind of strange that man hasn't been on the moon since the 70s….

I've seen those already. Is that all you've got? Considering the immense technological advances that NASA has incurred since then, and considering they duped an entire nation into believing we actually landed on the moon, how difficult do you think it would be to create a few photos designed to show proof of our landings? I've seen numerous photos that look EXACTLY like those in many modern Hollywood movies. Why don't you try browsing through the pages & pages of EXTENSIVE photographic proof at aulis.com for starters, rather than relying on a few weak pictures from the very government trying to keep this entire thing under wraps? It's funny how easily you people accept truth, with a mere couple of photos, yet an ungodly amount of OBVIOUS anomalous material doesn't sway you one bit.
There's something scientifically wrong with almost EVERY photo publicly available in NASA's files, but who cares…we have the LRO images from NASA that prove we landed on the moon beyond a shadow of a doubt!! lol right…they could be photos from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey and you wouldn't know the difference.
So, US took 20 years to build technology to go to moon, and went what 6 times and since then, no other country on the planet, including US itself, has put another human on the surface of the moon…wow people are dumb, they will believe anything.

The first Space Shuttle only had 256k of memory. I suppose they faked the shuttle missions too because how could they have launched the most complex machine ever built with only 256k of memory. The Apollo computing power was provided by IBM in the 60s using mainframes that stored data to disk more than memory. Today the ISS has it's own Microsoft Exchange mail server. what i find really disturbing is that we cant really know for 100% sure that we did land up there…Or that 100% we didn't.

You completely missed my point. How far exactly did the first space shuttle travel outside of Earth's orbit? Maybe 250 miles, if that?? And even then there were massive problems with shuttle technology. The fact that the Apollo missions traveled 59,900% farther than the first Space Shuttle with LESS technology is just baffling. Not to mention the Lunar Modules were practically death traps in training exercises. A little ironic that they were so flawless 6 times consecutively, with such limited computing power.

You're just an idiot. Traveling, building boats, fighting, and doing math doesn't require the use of computers. Try successfully creating something that will fly next to a Boeing 747 at 40,000 feet in the air without the aid of some type of computers. Then I guess you could try convincing someone to travel on a journey with you 240,000 miles outside of Earth's orbit and successfully landing, and returning 6 times successfully with jet propelled machines that have computers equipped with a maximum memory bandwidth of 152kb. Laughable. If you believe that's possible, then there's no hope for you.

Another anomaly with the so-called lunar missions is the "fact" that the Lunar module needed to dock perfectly and with 100% precision with the orbiter for their return journey back home. With such low computing power, just how did they pull that off — this when they had nothing the likes of GPS tracking (which isn't even 100% precise)? The precision calculations involved would have required lots and lots of memory… to lift off at the very precise time, travel at the very precise speed, meet and dock with the orbiter in perfect alignment (no mistakes acceptable), etc.! And that they did this 6 times without a hitch is total BS!!

Why you're willing to believe that a mission to the moon would require lots of compute power is beyond me. It's essentially physics, chemistry and mathematics. Yes, fairly complex maths but nothing that actually requires massive compute power. All the onboard computers had to do was control the trajectory; everything else, life support etc, was mechanical. I know some people find it hard to accept that mankind can calculate such advanced maths but we can. We have spacecraft in orbit providing telecoms and television and weather forecasting. The moon is in a predictable orbit, it's pretty hard to miss. If they wanted to they could have manually guided the spacecraft to the moon but it would have cost more and used more fuel.
The computing power used back then was more to control the overall mission so that events occurred exactly as planned and for simulations so they could be well prepared.
The technology reflects the era in which it took place. Apollo 13 proves that things didn't go smoothly but even so, quick and clever thinking saved the day in the end (and all before Google became a verb).
All disproven J, there is no evidence of being faked. You are probably some spotty 14 year old with no life experience.

It just occurs to me that perhaps you are used to modern computers and modern applications requiring megabytes of memory to operate. Modern applications are developed with no real regard to system resources. Most application developers just assume that hardware will be upgraded to accommodate the needs of the software. My first computer had less than 5k of memory and so my generation of programmers learned to do more with less. Even today, look at some of 4k and 64k demo scene and you'll see what is possible in a few kilobytes of memory.
For all those who do not believe the moon landings took place the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has just sent back pictures of the moon landing sites, complete with lunar modules, astronaut tracks. The resolution is not great but further passes will increase the definition by a factor of 4. It's just a pity the Japanese HD camera orbiter didn't get pictures of the landing sites etc.

NASA did not use computers to control *every* aspect of the missions. The compute power needed is not massive to simply monitor and record telemetrics and mechanics. Remember, it was all done over radio signals being recorded on to magnetic media. We've being doing that kind of stuff since the 40s and 50s. However, my point was that the amount of memory available is irrelevant as data was stored on tape or disk. The actual memory need for the on board microprocessors is not much because the guidance systems were preprogrammed. All the astronauts had to do was follow procedure manuals and flick mechnical switches which equated to actual 1s and 0s to the computer to act on.
If you break down the challenge of getting to the moon into smaller challenges, each one is possible even back then. Breaking out of Earth's gravity is easy, it's down to brute force propulsion, doesn't require a lot of computing power. From orbit to the moon is hardly a complex journey, there's nothing between Earth and Luna, it's not like they need a map
The guidance system simply has to fire the engines to keep it on a course that's pre-programmed based on what we already know about the moon's orbit around the Earth. Hundreds of years earlier, astronomers and other clever people without any form of electronic assistance managed to plot the orbits of planets with relative accuracy.

Is it already known when they are planning to put the first man on the moon?

Only a few of us know that NASA launched a giant round sheet that is painted to look like the moon, and when everyone was sleeping they just unfurled it in front of the real moon close to the Earth to block the real moon. Every time they launched another Apollo mission they would just hide behind the orbiting sheet and pretend that they landed. An astronaut would sneak out at night with a can of paint and a brush and paint little details onto the sheet during every mission to make it look like they left equipment there. Impossible you say? Funny that the Russians were never able to figure this out you say? Of course they would be the first ones to want to know that they had been scammed, so it now becomes obvious that the Russians were in on it too.
We all know that because the crashed alien technology that silicon chips are based upon was not reversed engineered until the 70's, we didn't have the processing power to make an actual moon landing. This is the secret that Elvis has kept all this time. Only a fool wouldn't know that. That's why he faked his death, to help keep the orbiting moon sheet a secret to the stupid world populace.

Using the same thinking as the "moon landings didn't happen", the Russians don't like the USA. Why haven't they called the USA out on the moon landings? They have spies, they have satellites too. It would be easy to make the USA look bad with their technology.
Unless satellites don't exist, it takes a lot of calculations just to get them in the right orbit. Just like it takes a lot of calculations to send stuff to the moon or to other planets.
I also hear that the majority of scientists are for the truth. That's their job! To search for the best approximation of truth we have with Science!
You should also be aware of any governments inability to keep secrets for very long. They did a horrible job with Clinton and Lewinsky. And it only took 4 years for a study using cellphones while driving to come out after it was hidden by the US government during that time. For things so small, those secrets sure do come out rather easily. Imagine what it'd be like if there even more people involved.

How can it be that from the 1970's to early 2000's we had the capability of transporting 100 passengers over the Atlantic at twice the speed of sound, yet no such capability exists today, almost a decade later? I agree with obx also. There was also another Russian fatality in the 60s, a cosmonaut was burnt to death during a launch pad failure but this death was not released until 1983 which is why it is often forgotten about.
The thing that they couldn't even see any stars is a fact, from my opinion, that they never went. I can see stars here from earth, and it got an atmosphere, quite thick. It's brighter than the moon so the reflection from the surface shouldn't be a problem. And I can even see some of the stars on the day, thou the blue sky. At night I can see stars, even with all the lights from lamps , windows and such. They said the earth was so bright so they couldn't see the stars, why did they not look the other way? A fair proof would be an other organization beside NASA, plants a telescope on the moon taking pictures of the sky.. if they get any results then it a fact that they never went, if they don't get any, a bigger proof that they did. And yes, not pictures with very long shutter speed…. and maybe more to the mission than just taking pictures of the sky, if the result wouldn't give any. Tho, it's hard to just photograph just stars from earth, but if we adjust the shutter speed on the camera so the stars are seen from earth then that same shutter speed should give the result on the moon, as a human eye. If they are there or not.
And in the interviews with the astronauts, some just are obvious hiding something. Or they have been harassed in a way, like threatened or something about the subject and therefor making them so.. sweaty, twitchy and nervous.
It's naive not to think they might have faked it, and calling people idiots by that belief. Many Americans believe in God, why wouldn't they be fooled by this too

I am old enough to have been around when the moon landings took place, I stayed up all night with my granddad to watch it shown live on TV when I was just 13 years old. I followed every triumph and disappointment, even then there was the petty disapproval of the cost of the endeavour. And the sad indifference of the public when they had seen it all before and switch off their TV sets. It is a sad condemnation of our race that we cannot have pride in our accomplishments and are reduced to childish doubts and recriminations.
The Moon Landings where the greatest achievement that mankind has ever known and we should take great pride in that fact and the men who by the 50th anniversary may no longer be with us.
For the people who for what ever reason they have cannot except this truth, I personally feel sorry for them. I myself have no religious beliefs, but I do have something that probably isn't very fashionable these days. Which is a belief in the overall goodness of mankind. And a hope engrained in the wonder that I witnessed as a child that by working together we can archive the impossible, however implusable that may seem to the few doubters now.

This is an old myth. All the astronauts have said they DID see stars while on the moon. It's only the photographs and 16mm film that did not capture the stars on film because all of the cameras were setup for fast exposure. The stars in the lunar sky were not captured on film or video for that reason. It's as simple as that. The 10fps video cameras used also on the moon just were not advanced enough to capture that level of detail either. The video cameras were especially built for low power use. The 10fps also explains why when the video is scan converted to normal TV rates gives the strange playback at 30 & 25fps.
The reason for the cameras being set for fast exposure is because of the harsh bright sun light during a lunar day and the reflected light from the lunar surface and also the light coming from the Earth. The lunar surface looks so bright because the lunar dust is quite reflective even though it's not actually white. Fast exposure settings are always used to photograph in space under direct sunlight conditions. It's why you never see stars in photos of the shuttle or the ISS.

Lasers are definitely on the moon, put there by man. The LROC has taken pictures of the landing sites and various objects left behind and the resolution will be better on the next pass and then again on the pass after that.
Really, I don't know why I'm even bothering to post this, or my previous post, as the conspiracy idiots are going to continue to be idiots, regardless of facts. Even if fifty craft went to the moon and took high definition pictures, still and video, of the landing sites etc, idiots would not believe it. Apollo 16 mission placed a lunar observatory on the moon and did take photos of the stars from the Moon's surface using properly setup optics. They are regarded as some of the best photos of the stars.
Amstrong and Aldrin didn't recall seeing stars. If you were the first on the moon would you be more focused on the moon or the sky above?
(Stars will have different brightness in space anyway because in space we are not viewing them through the ultraviolet in the Earth's atmosphere.)

The idea that the LEM computers didn't have enough memory is ridiculous. The number-crunching was done on Earth and the astronauts' computers only had to do more basic calculations.
And the "we didn't go to the moon" idea has been debunked ad nauseam. And the astronauts didn't take a lot of photos of the stars because THAT'S NOT WHY THEY WENT TO THE MOON.

I would look around me, yes. So probably I would see some stars, if they where visible. They maybe didn't have time for that tho, seems they were working hard on the moon and was focused on doing a good job.. but one deep breath and just look around is something I would have done, guaranteed. Thinking where I was in this moment of my life.
I found some pictures of the Far Ultraviolet Camera / Spectrograph. Didn't know anything about it, thanks.. tho it sucks that it only could take pictures of the spectrum that the human eye is not able to see. Which means no proof that they where able to see stars with their eyes or not. This can talk for both sides.
And I think you said something wrong with the ultraviolet light and the atmosphere, or I just got it wrong. I got the view of you saying it filtered the light to a more visible light to us, or maybe amplified it. If so, can you please tell me a good source for this?
Anyway, thanks for the fact.. I believe they went to the moon more now, I can't say I know, cause I don't. And I still think they are hiding something
This series really tells the story behind the machines and how hard work it was. I really hope they did it, with all their hard work and effort they should have landed on the moon.

I have to admit that years ago I had my doubts about the lunar rover, because I couldn't believe they could have transported that to the moon, but after seeing how GM designed it to fold, it's obvious now.
I basically searched for "stars + photographs + moon landings" — you'll find plenty of links (for both sides) but the links to explanations of why the stars are not visible are plausible. More importantly, the most obvious reasons for no stars on films is the fast exposure setting on the cameras. You can try this on Earth even. Just try and photograph stars in the night sky with fast exposure and you will not capture stars in a photo. You need longer exposure to do that.

Yeah, I know that you have to take photos with long shutter speed, long exposure, to get pictures of the stars. I've already mention it, and you too. I don't see the "no stars in the pictures" as an evidence for that they never went. And I found one picture who shows Venus in the background.
One weird thing only left, why the unusual ultra bad picture on the first steps? During this documentary they had great color pictures.. They should shown what people developed the camera for the mission, in this series, and why the picture was so bad like it was in the first mission on the lunar surface. Did something go wrong?

This series is one of the best I've ever seen about the moon missions. It really tells the story. The rover, the suits, the lunar module… every thing about them and how they took their shapes and more.
The space suit part was interesting and not mention in other documentaries about the mission. I would like to see more about it, and everything else.. They could have done this series twice as long

The reason the first footage of Armstrongs climb down to the lunar surface is so bad is because for the first mission they used a special 10 frames per second low power video camera. They had to reduce the weight on the LEM and so everything had to be small and not use heavy bulky batteries. Later missions also used a 16mm film camera which are the very high quality color images. The later missions also used color video cameras. Video cameras were more sophisticated in the early 70s than in the late 60s.
The other problem was on the first mission was that the video recorder at NASA failed and so the only way they could capture the footage was by filming the video screen using a 16mm film camera. This contributed to the loss off quality. Recently, the original recordings from Parkes in Australia are believed to have been found and NASA is restoring the footage.
The 16mm films were blown up to 35mm for the film For All Mankind in 1989 (20th anniversary). This movie is now on Blu-ray.
