well this is a weird release—as microsoft would never push an sp3 seeing as how they would want us all to transfer to vista
(so beware people)–might be a good way to track fake xp owners
cause we all hate vista–so we would rush downloading an xp sp3

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx if you read here… you’ll notice that this is not a fake release… SP3 is due to appear in ‘08 …

Personally I’ll wait till SP3 is officially released as you don’t want to f*ck with pre beta releases as they might make your pc unstable.

The SP3 will be for Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server and Datacenter Server, NOT for any Windows XP.

    August 8th, 2007 | 11:50

    @kochas315:

Not exactly sure how that makes any sense, since Windows 2000 Pro, Server, Advanced Server & Datacenter Server already has SP4 and wont be receiving any further major updates.

    HANDS off guys !

    it´s a pre beta !

so your system wont be really stable anymore !
No support from MS ! and no need to upgrade !

    no real effort in this..

    -> never touch a running SYSTEM !

IT’s real! So stop whining! It’s a pre beta. Probably unstable,

Windows XP SP3 is suspected to ship at the same time as Vista sp1!

It took like 12 minutes to install … the boot sequence was extremely fast .. i only had like 4-5 seconds of startup screen .. and after that an moobe.exe (not sure if exactly this exe) with and exception error .. just pressed ok and is running ok ;) So far seems to move a little faster. Enjoy

This will definitely decrease the amount of time spent using “Windows Updates” on new installs of XP.

It doesn’t seem worth the hassle to install now, MS is notorious for fixing bugs on service packs before and during their release even on MSDN let alone in the pre-beta stage like this is. Not to mention the ones still with bugs *after* a full release. Better to wait, and stick with incremental updates via live update or windiz update for Firefox users.

    August 8th, 2007 | 15:48

Or even better install eth0’s updates since they’re doing it monthly…
Just today they release a bunch of XP ISO’s (Professional RETAIL, OEM, Upgrade SP2 - July update)..

No need for this SP3 .. yet..

I just installed this on a fresh SP2 install and everything is working fine..so far. No errors on startup and then I ran windows update and it still needed to be validated but then there was no major updates, which is usually around 80 on a new SP2 install. My guess is its more of a rollup of all critical updates to date, which makes it easier for fresh installs then downloading the 80 updates +…….

UPDATE: doesnt look like it includes IE7, just noticed the windows update is in IE6.

  27. August 8th, 2007 | 17:44

I am back to using vista, I was getting a little bored with xp. I am pissed about trying to change vista’s themes though, even though I am in admin mode and have full control and followed all the instructions to change a damn uxtheme.dll file.. it still wont let me copy over it. Looks like I will now have to get a theme program, like windows blinds or some such.

I will also get the sp3, I doubt it will be any good though.
I like windows xp, but it is kind of boring to use these days.

This download works like a charm, but there is no point to download it! Everything looks as before. You should wait for the official. Also, the cr4cks to SP2 does not work any more, so you have to get new before 30 days have passed or your xp is useless.

Too bad they don’t want to include DX10 :) Then, nobody would have a reason to move to Vista

    August 8th, 2007 | 20:12

I agree with Bosnanova, ill just upgraded my computer and i love windows xp, but it doesn’t run DX10 :( so i can use my graficcard ful out :(.

  31. August 8th, 2007 | 23:45

Uhm.. DX10 is Vista only. MS will not release a XP version.

Anyone know or have the Vista wallpaper from the http://www.fengnews.com/article/2007/0807/news_7416.html link? Where can I get it?

  33. August 9th, 2007 | 00:10

Don’t download this. Run out and buy Vista now. Go on, hurry, get Vista today. Trust me, its worth every dollar I make, I mean, every dollar you spend.

it is nice to see that a SP3 is _actually_ in the works, but seriously… who would ever install a “pre beta” of microsoft’s old news OS?

  35. August 9th, 2007 | 04:49

    He hee, nice, nice….

Cuz its prebeta, I dont wand install it, but I download this and release it in our LAN - probably there are some peoples, who want to test this)

Good release except remember pre-beta as everyone says. Also incorporates the latest of SP2 updates but won’t be really official since theres still many months for improvments on the SP2 to be incorporated into the SP3 on March 08 release and more tests ;)

DX10 will NEVER be released for Win XP. They already announced its vista only, since the new Direct X relies ALOT on the new Driver model. (New driver model for vista, is why Display Drivers for Win XP dont work in Vista)

As for cracks, I wonder if the VLK Trick still work. Where you use a custom generated VLK key, and then put a registry string into ya registry, and it will reroute the VLK check to the loopback address of your computer. Tricking the Windows that its a genuine version.

That trick still works on everything WGA related upto current date. Requires NO hacks on WGA. Everything recognized as legit.
