Microsoft works on SP1 for Windows Vista
According to reports, Microsoft plans to release Service Pack 1 (SP1), the first major upgrade to its Windows Vista operating system in the first quarter of 2008. Microsoft says SP1 is not designed as a vehicle for releasing new features, but for enhancements made to existing components. In addition to updates to be released regularly, SP1 will include changes that address specific reliability and performance issues, support for new types of hardware, and emerging standards. The update is expected to fix some common problems that cause PCs to crash or freeze, while support for new hardware includes newer graphics cards, external monitors, and printer drivers.
Moreover, SP1 will include: the ability to encrypt hard drive partitions, support for new file formats and system start-up methods; capacity for improved battery performance, increased speed with respect to copying files, and faster Internet Explorer (IE). In a blog posted yesterday, Nick White, a Microsoft product manager, wrote, “A small group of testers has been putting a preview of the SP1 Beta through its paces to help prepare for broader release. We made the choice to start with a very small group of testers because we think it’s better for both our customers and for Microsoft to keep the beta program small at the start.” The beta test version of SP1 will be released in the next few weeks to a small group of testers; while final release is slated for the first quarter of 2008.

Second to tell that I’ll stick on Win XP Pro SP2
Vista isn’t so bad if you have (1-)2 GB RAM
im bored to change to the whole new style thing.. ive installed it once but formated my pc again
Finally we can use that shiat
@1 It is available in BETA version, witch will FUCK UP your pc just like mine. Had to format because uninstalling it didnt Un-fuck´d up the OS.
Cheerz.
I think I’ll wait for XP SP3
I’d rather stick with my good ol XP and be able to use all my programs and hardware.
I had it installed on one of my laptops. Half my shit wouldn’t work with it or had to use a workaround to get them to work. Wasn’t all that thrilled.
Doesn’t really matter for me, i didn’t have any major problems wwith SP1less Vista.
Use n-Lite, optimize Windows XP to your needs only, disable the unneeded stuff, integrate your drivers and applications, and you will realize that XP is good enough…
As for Microsoft… good bug-hunting
According to reports, Microsoft plans to release Service Pack 1.
Holy shit, shocking news!! This is very old news to begin with and second, of course there is going to be a SP1 for Vista. Performance and reliability enhancements, lol that’s almost every update. Anyway, i’m using vista for about a month now, and i like it a lot. It looks nice, all my hard- and software works perfectly, and i just bought a new computer with a 8800 GTS, so i need vista to run in directx 10 mode. Bioshock runs sweet!!
Dual boot folks – XP still my main OS but I have Vista just for the DX10 games
Well, at least SOMETHING useful instead of worthless no-name rips. Try to chill out a bit on posting so many dvd rips of movies no one has heard of from 15 years ago…..
More news from the world of Micro$h!t: Autopatcher.com gets hit with a takedown notice of its download page. http://www.autopatcher.com/134

Within the 90.000 visitors, I’m sure many of them know all the old movies posted
I hope that it will copme out soon… Since 2 weeks i am experiencing regular blue screens on my AMD X2 4400+, ATI X1900XTX combination, running at premium 64…. Did not have any problems before…
Already installed the pre-Beta SP1 for Vista and my system is rock-solid, runs 24/day.
More responsive and faster overall… Not much but noticable.
Nice, I just got my new 8800 gts oc 640 Gpu
Everything should work top notch now!!
is the r5 of shrek real or fake..i seen IT on ORLYDB
Its fake…
I just ordered my 8600GTS so I also will be OC’ing and playing some DX10 games. But I will need to duel boot. Ill go grab a 13gig HDD.
nothing run on vista
10 + 5 = 105
Go back to year 3 maths Evo
.
Hope this SP1 is just like BAM! I CAN RUN EVERYTHING I CAN ON XP! WOOT.
Because if it’s not!! >_
Thanks nuZZ
How come its on that site?
Alot of people that talk trash about Vista seem to either: A)Not have it or B) are nubstacks.
I have found Vista to be VERY stable (more stable than XP), i have kept records and my old system [P4 3.2ghz / EVGA 7900GT / 1.5GB DDR / 200GB @ 7200rpm / Win XP Pro] has BSOD’ed 6 times are self restarted 26 times since March 19th 2007. My new comp that i built [Core 2 Duo E6700 / EVGA 8800GTS / 2.0GB DDR2 / 150GB @ 10,000rpm + 500GB @ 7200rpm / Win Vista Ultimate] has only BSOD’ed 2 times and self restarted 4 times since March 19th 2007.
I have not had any problems with any games that i have played (CSS, BioShock, Doom 3, Command & Conquer 3) and the ONLY program that i have had compatibility issues with is Peer Guardian 2, they had a Vista beta edition come out a few months ago but i couldn’t get it to work and never tried it again. I have not had ANY problems with any non-beta software.
The supposed update pack that was released a few weeks ago did NOT fix the large file transfer calculation time for me, instead of just saying “calculating” it just says 0sec. However that is a drop in the bucket and i usually just calculate the file transfer time by taking the file size and divide it by the network transfer rate, so really the only “issue” i have had is a non issue.
My advice is to use WHQL drivers ONLY do weekly system maintenance (CrapCleaner, AdAware, Spyware Doctor, Registry Cleaner, Defrag, etc), and either do NOT overclock or go slowly and stop at the first sign of instability. Also do NOT buy a crap motherboard, this is the one system component i would NEVER cheap out on. I have a EVGA NForce 680i SLI.
B) No not a nutstack A) Had it but it sucked so I went back to XP. Sorry but Vista is really lame. I’ll stick with my rock solid XP. I never have BSOD on XP. You must of had some type of driver or hardware problem dude. Now don’t even get me started on VISTA. Don’t just talk up vista cuz you paid money for that POS software and want us all to follow your lead. No thanks. I think I will stick with XP as will 80% of the rest of the population for years untill something worthwhile comes out that is worth spending $$ on.
LOL #24 why would i care if you “follow my lead?” LOL i dont care if you use Vista or not; its not like MS gives me money for every person on a forum that says “OK i will use Vista”. I am just saying that alot of this crying and bellyaching that is going on is overblown, and has nothing to do with OS itself.
I build systems and sell them as a side business, since March I have only installed Win Vista and Ubuntu Linux and have had 0 problems or returns on the 163 systems i have built in the last 6 months.
This tells me that most issues that people claim to have with Windows Vista are not OS related and instead are software conflict, hardware issue, or level 9 (yes level 9, that is between the floor and the keyboard) issues.
#25, Mentioning Linux to try to defend yourself from an attack by another poster is just poor form. (Trying to suggest Windows and Linux are in the same class when they’re NOT is even poorer!)
With Linux, you don’t worry about “regular” or “weekly” maintenance. (system chores).
Shit like “CrapCleaner, AdAware, Spyware Doctor, Registry Cleaner, Defrag, etc” (your words) are a waste of time. The existance of such apps clearly demonstrate there are serious fundamental issues with Windows itself. (Things that Microsoft will NEVER bother addressing. Why fix things when people have just accept its deficiencies for so long? Hell, why care when people will continue paying?!)
What’s really sad is that people just accept garbage in this manner. (without a thought). If you accept garbage, you will forever get garbage. FFS, stand up for yourselves! (Companies don’t care about you until you walk away and take your business elsewhere!)
If Vista is that great, do you honestly think you need all that crap?
People only live with Windows because they have to. As soon as someone develops a seamless compatibility layer that allows you to run ANY Windows app on another OS without issues, EVERYONE will scramble off the MS ship. (quicker than a hot girl dumping a cheap date!)
As for Vista and SP1?
The most common excuse for not adopting Vista is: “Waiting for SP1″.
They’re only rushing the release (and hyping it up a bit) because they need to get more people onto Vista. (new OS means increase profits for MS. Windows and Office are MS’s primary cash cows).
Any person who has a serious business decision to make in regards to OS upgrade or adoption OR who can see the “forest among the trees” knows this.
Yeah, I’ve had the choice from upgrading XP to Vista. I tried Vista out for a month, and I found it uneventful. More like problematic. There are some serious issues I’ve run into. The eyecandy is mediocre compared to what’s out there.
Now I use Linux and have XP running as a virtual machine in VMWare Server. (Even then, I only have XP running as an isolated machine, not being allowed to use the web)…It saves you alot of heartache this way. Any problems? Just roll back to the last good image. (take minutes to restore)
W O W …
not. Ive been using beos for 4 years now… it does everything I need it too. BTW what are some ppls records for uptime ? ive been 30days up only to replace an hdd.
Ok…
You Linux fans out there… Can you not?
Don’t create an argument about “The existence of anti-virus/spyware/adware programs just proves that it is a pathetically flawed piece of garbage-shit-slut-hoe”.
I personally DON’T get these things (Adware, Spyware, Virus) at all.
)
I use XP SP2…
I guess I have just learnt over the years, as a Windows user, just how to prevent infection all together.
I sometimes go on to crack websites and maybe a few with some annoying spyware… Doesn’t mean I get the shit. I have NOD32 sitting there, I scan once a week and I never seem to find a thing (Kind of disappointing sometimes
I don’t know too much about Linux, but what do you mean by it doesn’t require weekly maintenance? Bah…
I think WINDOWS is the superior OS.
It is used by more AND It is a hell of a lot better for gaming (I spend a decent wad of time gaming)
You say that these flaws in windows just won’t be fixed becuase MS is slack? Erm… I think they have enough money to bother to fix any flaws.
.
MS is not just some backyard company scamming you for some cheap bucks, making a hit and run to go and found another company under a different name and repeat or something
Lol…
I would like all of the OS companies to form into one and create a universal OS.
That would be good. I sincerely HATE choice when it comes to such crucial software like this. It either doesn’t have compatibility with this, doesn’t have this feature, oh that one over there has this and that, but this one also has this, but doesnt have that but also has this to make up for that and this and THAT.
:O.
My record uptime is something like a week…
I don’t know. After a while I just need to give the poor compy a rest, give it a pat, wait for it to cool down and then fire it up again
.
Longest uptime for me was on an older box running Windows 98SE, had an uptime of like 5-6 months, although I only used it for leeching and seeding torrents. My regular PC , dual-booting XP pro and Vista Ultimate, gets shutdown and rebooted all the time, really see no reason to leave it on constantly or to set it to sleep or hibernate. When it comes to forced reboots tho’ ’cause of BSOD or some other hangup well that happens every few days, but I don’t care ’cause I know it’s my fault for excessive installing and uninstalling of random programs, brute overclocking, running WAY too many things at once etc…
As for the Linux vs. Windows debate I only use Windows because that’s what I first used when I first started using computers. I guess it’s a force of habit and comfort zone to use what you know. I’ve tried different variants of Linux and *meh* never saw any advantages over Windows, but if my first OS had been a Linux variant I know for a fact that I’d still be using it and my feelings reversed between Windows and Linux.
I bought my current computer with Vista. I put up with that headache for a few months, unable to play any games, and finally switched back to XP on this machine. Everything works fine now. I’m not touching Vista for many, many years.
@13 Yes its sad that Autopatcher is being taken down by Microcrap i just started using it.
It saves time and bandwidth us i look after 16 comps.
Damm it Microjob:(
I setup XP/Vista dual boot.
But after using Vista I decided nah, cant get into it… so the only time I use Vista now is to choose XP from the startup boot menu.
You need to install Vista on a seperate partition correct…
I don’t have any spare partitions… Hmmm…
Anyone think that if I used Partition Magic to split my windows (Only windows and drivers) drive (Currectly 19.8Gig, 12gig free) into say: XP drive: 8.8gig and Vista the rest..? (11gig or so)
I am just wondering if perhaps I will screw my XP over due to the partitioning…
It will work, but attach some free space from other partitions too for the system partitons (2-3 GB each)
Vista rocks, stfu n00b with no RAM lol

Best uptime running Debian: 4 years, 137 days, 11 hours, 32 minutes, 04 seconds.
I eventually rebooted since my kernel was getting horribly out of date and couldn’t run the latest apache fixes anymore (It never crashed though)
Beos?
Do you mean Zeta/Haiku or the original(RIP) one?
Hello all, I first install vista Ultimate on my Single core Intel solo 1.8 GHz Laptop with 1 gig of DDR2 ram, was kind of cool at first, yes not all the programs worked but what a hell i always found new ones. But in vista my battery only lasts 1 hour !!!!!!!!!! , in XP last 2 hours !!!!!! tooooooooooooooooooooo much for me. Other thing that killed the OS was that if Vista showed a pop up window evry time i executed a exe, it was to much confirmation for all the executables , toooooooo much Paranoic !!! I have return to my old XP, and with VMware i can start Linux with the ISO files or what ever OS i want to try :p real good software.
The SP1 for vista, what more hd space ? jajajaja ,
If you dont have a minimun Dual Core machine with at Least 2 gigs of ram and a powerfull video card dont try it. A by the way Acronis 10 home can make perfect partition backups for Vista, Norton Ghost DO NOT WORK on vista.
RLSLOG rUlEz
Ive been on vista ultimate for a few months and all in all im quite happy with it.
It a newish OP so there are going to be bugs with it.
i think you need to be running a decent spec to benifit fully from it, and what glitches it does have will soon be gone!
Everyone prefers different things XP, 2000, linux etc so its never going to stop the debate.
In around 5 years XP will be obsolete and Vista will prob replace it as its mainstream.
and lol at people who have only given it a brief glance, any progs that dont work have usually released a vista version and if it hasnt then there are others that will work.
in my experience it offers more than XP did plus it looks a lot dam better
and my pc has run for over two weeks without a restart running vista, i left it seeding whilst in tenerife and it was still doing the buisness when i got home lol
Only stupid people cannot make the Vista work properly! I’m using XP less and less each day!
I’ll wait for Vista SP5.
Sorry Only stupid people can make the Vista work properly! I’m using XP less and less each day!
