3-4 years later we will be cursing windows 7, praising Vista and will have totally forgotten about XP, just as it happened with windows 98.
Its a never ending cycle I tell ya…

    Comment from 2001:

Windows XP sucks, 98 rocks. XP is all eye-candy and a resource hog, and is plagued by freezes and BSOD’s. Who wants to have to buy 512MB of ram just to run an OS? No thanks, ill stick with 98.

No they don’t. I get an average of 15FPS more in all my DX10 games then when I had XP on the same exact system.

i’m using both xp and vista, and although vista was buggy to start, once you update drivers and fiddle with it for a while (which is what i love doing) it works well and looks better than xp. still keeping xp going just incase tho.

How is XP better? I had XP installed on my new system and it ran great (3.4 Q6600 8GB RAM), but once I installed Vista it ran AMAZING. Seriously, It starts up 4x faster, programs open instantly instead of 5 seconds, games have higher FPS, and rendering is about 10x faster. Opening a 2GB photoshop file is almost instant compared to 30 seconds on XP.
Vista is meant for new hardware, so if you have new hardware use vista, if not stick with XP. You are an idiot if you install vista on an older system.

  21. Mob Hunter

I’ll bet it ran better! Seeing that XP will only address up to 4GB RAM. Mob Hunter=jealous.

I am always amazed how Microsoft’s competitor and the press have mamanged to make Vista into such a monster!

Some of my friends who know litterally NOTHING about computers still often tell me “Hey, you are running Vista? I heard it sucks!”.

Why would it ? The conversation usually stops there.

I use vista and guess what ? It runs just as well as XP, and it is much cuter. :)

Dont get me wrong, XP is good too, but XP is a 8 years old technology. It is great for old laptops and stuff, but it is the past.

Since SP1 vista is better than XP but only -IF- you’re not running a PC from pre-2005. If you have 2gb+ of ram and a core2duo equiv there’s no reason to be still using XP.

The same thing happened with XP as mentioned by others in this thread, it only became worth using over Win2k after SP2. Of course most of you won’t remember that because you’re too young.

  25. Rahul
    July 11th, 2008 | 15:56

Im using a dual boot system (XP+VISTA)…………XP is only for games….VISTA is for all other work…….VISTA is visually very attractive…..n very secure too…..try running an XP system without any antivirus n see wat happens after a week……n try the same with VISTA…..

VISTA is definitely better…….but install it only if u have new hardware……..esp a latest graphic card.

    @ 24 Derp

Oh, I remember 2k. I actually didn’t switch to XP until late 2005. 2k=low sys resources=more room for games. Didn’t go XP until I had a gig of ram.

very true. I run all 3 major os here, and XP is the 3rd. still cannot decide if OSX or Vista is the 1st and I’m a long time Mac//PC user. Both have advantages over the other, don’t listen to any fanboyance. :)

You don’t know nothing about vista, since sp1, the vista is more faster and stable. I using now the Microsoft Windows Vista ULTIMATE x86 SP1 Integrated June 2008 OEM DVD-BIE, and is very good. Recommend BIE distributions too all. More faster is your computer, more you can push vista to the limits…

  34. KimJongWill
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:16

    @ 30

There is a x64 release by the same group in June:
    Microsoft.Windows.Vista.ULTIMATE.x64.SP1.Integrated.June.2008.OEM.DVD-BIE
Runs flawlessly and runs all updates.
Been using the Dell OEM for more than a year without a single problem, unlike XP which freezes up all the time and runs like crap compared to Vista on a newer PC.

@19-totally agree. Vista x64 ultimate w/ AMD quad 9850BE & 8gb ram…boots in 20 seconds, ALL games run perfect. just turn off aero & eye candy crap and it looks exactly like xp minus a few menu option changes. Give it up, its patched decently, and runs well if you know how to maintain it…its like a car. geez give it up

I’m usually up to date with software, firmware and most often also hardware, but I’ve skipped Vista completely. Well, I installed it, tried it out for a couple of hours with a neverending frustration and reinstalled XP. I’ll probably install Vista when I upgrade my hardware to dx10 compatible stuff, but I’ll stay with XP till then… this I’ll dload anyhow, it might come in handy :) Thanks!

I have a legit copy of Vista (with Key and all) that came with my laptop and i’m about to reformat…will this mess anything up or can i just enter my key when installing? Would love to save time and hassle having to go through all the updates (including SP1) again.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:28

Why not just release the 64 bit version while they were at it?

  43. ME
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:28

yes a stock vista will outperform a stock xp but you will only save your self on average 2 secs lol its nothing!

BUT a custom 64bit XP will outperform vista by a LONG way! i am currently running this 64bit xp and its got the options to make it look like vista and run more stable and faster but i personally hate the vista look so i have my own skins installed.

and to those ppl who think xp cant use 4 cores…. WTF???? lol of course it can!!!! im doing it right now lmao

  44. @40

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:30

When’s Microsoft going to realize that people don’t want to buy a new operating system every 3 years? Okay, not all of us actually “buy” it, but still… Before we even get used to using one system they’re shoving another one down our throats. They need to stick with a system people are comfortable with, like XP, and make constant improvements instead of scrapping it for something that’s not as good.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:33

Vi$ta is for n00bs and is wayaaaaay slower than xp and has BSOD every 10 minutes. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar or a paid micro$oft shill. Its physically impossible for vista to be faster evne on newer systems it makes no difference. using more resouces = slower. I installed vista, got bsod anytime I tried to do anything, and it was so slow it would take 10 seconds just to open a JPEG file. And this is on a quad core with 8 GB just like bones (the liar) claims to use.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:34

    @38 WTF?

  49. Dustin
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:35

@47 – Microsoft’s reach in the computer market is so vast that they make a profit because of the number of people buying new PCs that come with pre-installed OS’s. Since Windows is the main OS for companies such as Dell, HP, etc…that is why they release a new OS ever few years and the reason people buy it.

  53. skankbreath
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:44

First of all, this is a download link for Windows Vista, not a debate as to whether or not people are too scared to move into a new operating system.

XP with SP3 was FINALLY a fixed version of XP, based on the time it took for XP to become a useable OS, Vista is light years ahead of it.

For people with old, underpowered systems, they can’t use Vista and get in a hissy fit about it, grow up, buy some real hardware or simply STFU.

All these XPSP3 junkies, that aren’t old enough to remember that EVERY OS has had the same issues with adoption, need to realize, sooner or later you will have to upgrade or change OS’s. Or else, like now, you will be left in the dark due to your fear of change. If you want to keep your push mower instead of a gas or electric mower, have at ‘er; it’ll do a great job all the same.

Again, if you want to debate XPSP3 and you REALLY think anyone else does, other than people also using it, then find a forum somewhere else to debate it with your cronies or some people who actually care that you can’t get out of your confort zone.

Thanks for the post, Christian, don’t need it myself as I have an OEM but I am sure it will help a lot of people who just don’t have the dough for it yet.

and who cares about the looks of vista? you can replicate vista’s looks on xp very easily if you so wished but i personally dont like vista’s looks but like i say looks arent important as there so easily changed on both vista and xp lol

By running Vista you are basically an unpaid Beta tester for Microsoft…They should know better than to release products that are not fully tested.

You wouldn’t buy a car that hadn’t been completely tested for safety and reliability would you?

The software dictates the shelf life of Hardware, we’re being brute forced into upgrading out gear every couple of years just to line the pockets of the richest people in the world.

And they wonder why people use pirated free software…

Awesome release, was waiting in anticipation ever since the x64 BIE release made it’s debut. Honestly, Vista is not so bad with capable hardware. In fact, Vista – with all its multi-threading optimizations – makes better use of high-end hardware than XP ever will. I am slowly being coaxed away from XP being the end-all-be-all…that said, I still do express high regard for XP, and have even as of yet fully migrated from it. It’s a tough OS to let die.

BTW – We need a MS link! Stat!

    @8,

XP will be running on CPUs a lot longer than Win98. MS woke up after 98 marketing wise, at least. Putting the year it was released in the name instantly dates it. Win 98 just sounds older and older as the years passed. XP has had a longer support run than Win98 ever did. So, XP will never be looked at as Win 98.

And those saying get Vista because it runs better on new hardware. Please try and listen to what you are saying. Everything runs better on new faster better hardware. Linux runs better on a newer machine. It’s called collusion between MS and manufacturers. Look it up.

can anyone else confirm that its genuine? I also tried the june release and it says not genuine and will be reported to microsoft as counterfiet. as soon as I install my desktop turns black and says this copy is not genuine, and when I start i only get a black screen with “update now” and If I cancel my computer restarts to the same screen. so now I lost ALL of my important data and being reported to microsoft as a counterfitter. Vista sucks balls, what kind of OS would BlackSOD you out of your own files? Will never try vista again, xp is so much better ill stick with that untill windows 7.

I think the people that say that Vista sucks haven’t installed it on their pc or haven’t gotten use to it yet. I use to have Xp and I luved it but when I installed Vista at first I didn’t like it so much. After a while once I got use to it I really enjoy it more than XP. Vista has more features and has alot of improvements like for example the sound quality is awesome. Vista works perfectly fine and I wouldn’t go back to XP. I been using Vista now for about 6 or 7 months and its a great OS just give it a try.

I have a Linux Install on the same machine as vista, c2d with 3GB ram, and linux is nowhere near as fast, in any area. Vista out performs linux in everything Ive tried when comparing the two. The one thing I can say for Linux is that it installs a lot quicker, but the time spent configuring your system to run with it kinda makes the quick install pointless. Vista automatically found + installed almost every driver I needed too. Much better OS than Linux.

Linux is great, but without tweaking, customizing its crap. The most use ubunut anyway, and that is kinda the big. crap in linux distr. history. The “Idea” behind it is great, but a naked debian distr. with dif. naem is kinda poor “product”.

If linux go with ,gentoo, slackware, debian[real] or any unix like system. Always select the “original” ones!! not any salckware based, debian based, gentoo based…those are crap[most of them]. Iv tested until today about 100diff. Distros, and for me only Slackware,Debian or FreeBSD are good to be calle dalternative OS.

If u need “copy” of ubunut crap, go with mint!

People, I’ve been using computers since DOS 3.1,
XP is the best, and for all the i-diot-s that think DX10 is all that, it’s not, play a game in DX9 and DX10 side by side without knowing which is which, I bet you won’t even tell the difference.

btw, I need this dvd to install it on some computers here as some other i-diot-s over here think Vista is better.

That depends how u installed xp b4[c: and d:]. If u have 2 or more partition, install vista over c:[reformnat c only].

But before doing that, dl virtualbox and install vista as “guest OS”. U can try it there, b4 atte. to install nativly.

How sad u have to play on Vista DX10 only ? Nobody ! That is one of real old argumnets, but since sp1 and a few more updates there are no difrence btw xp and vista.

And if u go with 64bit, that is again more aplus for vista than for xp64. And not because XP64 poor driver support, that changed alot, it has some other minor problems.

I pres. won´t go back to xp 32 bit! I know i may loose some fp/s i certain aspects, but vista has no disadvantge like mayn write.

And 3rd, STOP crying pls!!! u pirates are using it for free and are still arguing about xp vs vista.

    #110,

You can install VISTA on that E-machine if you have enough to run it. This is Windows “Ultimate” and it needs at least a 128 mb video card and 2 gigs of ram to run smooth, I have an older P4 3.0 running @ 3.7gig and 2 gig ram with 512 video card, and Vista Ultimate runs fine………I also think it will downgrade to VISTA home or Office if your hardware dont have the nuts to run the Ultimate version…..

Well I’ve been using computers since before there were even OS’s, therefore I know a lot much more than you could ever know about computers. And as an expert, I can tell you there is a HUGE difference between DX9 & DX10. You are looking at graphics, and sure there is no difference there, but performance wise dx10 kills dx9. I get 20fps more on average for DX10 games than XP on the same exact system, and High Def gaming is 10x better with dx10. DX9 at 1920×1080 sucks, cant even compare to DX10.

I agree with a lot that’s been said here in both camps – pro Vista and con Vista. Personally, I decided to just go dual boot and explore the virtues and limitations of both OSs. We’ll all be screwed again as soon as Windows 7 is released – especially with the OS moving toward more touchscreen functionality. The bottom line is just sticks with what works for you and who gives a rats azz what anyone else uses or thinks.

I’ve been using Vista since the RC versions and am very happy with it.

Currently using Home Premium x64 – it’s much more stable than XP – it never crashes.

I also use XP SP3 on my work machine but can’t stand the default Fischer Price looks (Luna Blue) so have to change the theme to Classic.

To use Vista you need a fairly powerful PC so wouldn’t recommend it unless this is what you have.

I my opinion Vista just hasn’t gone far enough with new features over XP but it’s still my favourite operating system to use on a daily basis.

    Anyway… there’s my two worthless cents. ;)

I also heard that when you get a BSOD even if you have legit software, when you turn your PC back on it will show as not genuine. And also its slow to copy files, slow to play movies, and my friend said vista can barely play HD movies without skiping and becoming pixelated. @ marco

U have xp on c: right now, right ? If so run the vista dvd ant select “inside” setup process the partition c: and format it[no quick format]. And use the new c:[of course by formating c: xp is dead!].

Wait for a few sec and enjoy Vista Ultimate. That waht all we do. If u are not experience “enuf”, install vista as virutla os. For that dl Virtualbox, vmware player etc.. and select on d: e: etc.. about 20gb freespace.

now u have XP on c: and somewhere on d:,e: etc.. u have as “folder, image”the vista os as guest installed.

Check the Froums for VirtualBox help. 3rd way would be to buy a 2nd or 3rd Hard drvie and use that for Vista only.

Vista is superior over Windows XP.
Everyone that complains that Vista is too slow or that they are getting the infamous BSoD falls into one of the following categories:

A.) You dont know how to properly install an OS, (ie: Vista,XP,OSX,Linux)
B.) You watch too much Porn, dont know proper maintenance of a computer.
C.)You are an Idiot and need to contact geekstogo.com or bring your computer to a local computer repair store.

@genuine or not – I don’t know if you realise just how stupid your comment sounds.

“Will never try vista again, xp is so much better ill stick with that untill windows 7.”

First of all, when XP was at the same stage of development, Win2K users said the exact same thing about XP. XP was utter garbage until SP2 and not really worthwhile and stable until SP3.

So what, in yoru little mind, makes you so confident that when Win7 is released it will be your saviour, your shining star of OS’s that will solve all problems out of the box? It wont. By then Vista will be the most favoured OS, just as XP SP3 is now and Win2KPro was before that. Your complaint goes back to the first Win98 edition, which was useless until Win98 second edition was released.

Let me guess you must have loved Win3.11 for workgroups right? Actually you probably werent’ alive then but still, believe me, don’t hold your breath for Win7, you’ll be right back here complaining that is sucked and you are going back to Vista SP3 and will not use Win 7 but will try Win8 when it comes out.

Give me a break, your story is old

    Andrew,
in lamens terms 64bit Windows have access to more RAM this means applications can store more of their actions inside of faster memory (RAM), instead of saving it on hard drive (temp files). Not many applications have 64bit compatibility so sometimes it’s useless. Moreover not all hardware manufacturers have 64bit drivers.

64bit systems are made for professionals who use resource hungry applications like in graphic, CAD, video and music editing and servers.

So bottom line if you intend to use 64bit system make sure that all applications and hardware you must have compatible with 64bit operation system.

    Listen up!

It isn’t that Vista sucks, it’s that it just isn’t very compelling. IOW, there are almost no reasons for a satisfied XP user to go to the trouble or expense to install Vista. Many of the features of Vista are now available for XP users via 3rd party apps and utilities.

This is the thing that MS just doesn’t seem to understand. It’s not the same as when XP came out because XP finally provided the merging of the Win 9x UI and the more advanced NT architecture (better memory protection, unified driver model, much more stable system, etc.) so there was a compelling reason for everyone to upgrade. Not just consumers but also for corporate IT departments, who were wanted a more stable platform.

But with Vista, the advantages are minimal and people just don’t feel the need to make the move. The solution is simple: either MS will have come out with an OS that is more compelling or someone else will!

My PC that I bought brand new recently for £330 (approximately $650)is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200, with 4GB DDR2 memory, and a Geforce 8400GS. I just installed Microsoft.Windows.Vista.ULTIMATE.x64.SP1.Integrated.June.2008.OEM.DVD-BIE tonight and it’s running like a dream. It’s only when I saw this post that I decided to give it a try but thought I may as well look for the x64 version… All drivers have installed with absolute ease compared to XP and as long as they’ve worked it in the same way, this release should be fine too. I followed the instructions in the nfo and my copy has updated without a problem and is activated.

I got a very good score on the Windows Experience Index, it was only brought down to a 3.5 by my graphics card, which I’ve been intending to upgrade since I got the machine anyway. So as a benchmark, this spec will run Vista Ultimate perfectly and contrary to what someone said earlier, it wont cost you $3,000….

Vista x64 SP1 is far better than XP32 SP3, XP64 and Vista32 SP1. The security is amazing and if you have a relatively new computer then it runs just as fast or better than XP all the while being more secure and looking much better too.

This age old arguement of XP being better than Vista is getting OLD!

I wonder what all the people who swore by Win98 are using now? Yeah, you guessed it, WinXP!

Time is a healer and soon enough Vista x64 and 64-bit processing will dominate the market.

    @91,

My point was not a comparison between Vista and Linux. There is no comparison. Vista runs your PC with a pretty background and Linux runs the Internet.

My point is the argument that Vista runs better on new hardware. It is a stupid argument. The plan is always for MS to boost the sales of new hardware with their latest OS release.

And anything will run better on new better spec’d hardware than on older hardware. Again, the argument doesn’t make sense. Minimalist genius programmers will not be found at MS. Their new hardware requirements gives them the room for bloated applications and tons of updates to cover their original mistakes.

hey guys have you compared beryl or compys VS windows vista??
to crash ubuntu you need to be a really stupid person, and in windows it allways happen :P linux can run all the windows app and mac app too, but in windows? just compare the native games in windows like quake4 or ut2k4 and the load times are nothing compared to the windows lowloads, the only problem with linux is the ati users because ati do not give much suport on linux, but if you have an nvidia it rocks :)

Man, everyone needs to stop this vista sucks thing. This release is for people that want it, not for people to have a debate about it. Vista was slow, but now vista ps1 is way better. Just like any other older os, the first is always a problem, but the packs always make it better. I just want to know if BIE also released the x64 version also. My butt smells, gotta go clean my poop hole.

If it crashes all the time, that’s because you have a bad setup or a bad computer. It doesn’t happen in Windows all the time for most people who know how to do a bit of basic housekeeping and maintenance ;)

Vista rocks, you just need the computer to run it.

And I hate when people label the Vista DVD “Ultimate”. ALL Vista disks come with each version! You can use any disk to install any copy, it’s the serial number which dictates what you install, on a legit copy that is…

I don’t care about the arguments between XP and Vista.

What I want to know, from someone who has already downloaded and installed from this release, is whether it is:

A.)In fact “genuine and activated” as claimed.

B.)Can turn the computer on and off without losing activation.

C.)Can hook to the internet without losing activation.

D.)Can connect to and download from Windows Update without losing activation.

    E. )Can be installed by simply installing the dvd and “upgrading” from XP, rather than having to be a full-install.

If it fails at any of these things, then it fails completely.

    @Pro:

Sorry for you my friend, that can only mean two things: either you have an old video card that has no hardware support for DX10, or you play games that have the same visuals in either renderer (DX9 or DX10). The only other option is that you are blind, and I’m pretty sure that you are not.

DX10 brings a *hell* lot of an improvement to visuals, but you have to have a correct hardware and a correct game. Let me clear it up, Assassin’s Creed has both DX9 and DX10 versions, but they look absolutely the same. DX10 version has just more optimizations and runs faster than a DX9 one in Windows Vista. But, take for example Crysis, or Call of Juarez, if you have the hardware for it, you will experience a *huge* difference in graphics between DX9 and DX10 modes, which you can’t miss.

By the way, I go for Windows Vista. Period.

    Multi-language or only english ?
    Please, response!!!!!!!!!!!!
    —————-

Vista Ultimate (and Ultimate only) is multi-language even if the DVD is English only or whatever other language the DVD is. All you need to do once installed is to open up Ultimate extra’s from the start menu and select the language you want to use and Vista Ultimate downloads the selected language pack and changes its language to that. Pretty nifty stuff and a real pity it’s not available to Vista Home, Pro or Business.

To all the people that say wonders about XP, Just try Vista for 2 or 3 months (With a decent computer of course), then make your opinion, it looks like you know nothing about XP vs Vista. The stupid things people say nowadays. Vista sucks bla bla bla.Work with it first, i am computer technician and i can solve many more problems with Vista then with XP, you have a more direct approach to the hardware, just take a look to the computer policy management and the way the prefetch works. Inform your selfs before saying stupid things. Just one thing, yes besides ultimate and business the other versions sucks, but you don’t have any ideia on how much you can tweak Vista..
Educate yourselfs, XP belongs in the past, and all software is being designed based on Vista.

The only reason people started saying bad things with vista is because it was not compatible with old hardware making it unstable, but it was the same with the others S.O, the drivers only came later from the manufacturers.

And if you a the latest technology in cpu’s and graphics card you are stupid not to play vista.
Try crysis with and without dirctx10 or assassin’s creed or world in conflict then come talk to me if you don’t see any difference

if you install vista straight over another windows OS with out formatting your hard drive then there will be a folder in the C:/ drive called “windows old”, it will contain all your old documents, pics, music etc etc…….. vista does not delete unless told to.

CrossfireX dont even run on XP and with 2GB VGA mem than im left with only 1.5 GB memory out of my 6GB in XP because that how XP allocates memory under X86. XP. Vista is much nicer, more info, and it runs pretty smooth. (It’s not quite as fast as XP, but I still have some tweaking to do) I have not had any glaring Vista problems except for Utorrent, but I think that is Utorrents fault and not Vista. I did not want to take the plunge, but am happy I did.

No, its not genuine. I have a box on my lower right that says “this copy is not genuine” and says I may be a victim of counterfeiting. Cannot run updates, cannot use extras, cannot change screen saver without watermark appearing saying to activate. When you start up its a black screen that says activate now, and if you cancel out your computer shuts off, and if you click later you only have certain features to use (but at a slower pace) Every 10 minutes you get a pop up saying to activate now or be reported to Microsoft as a counterfeiter.

Way to go BIE, releasing another fine Vista release that is not genuine. Whats the Point?????

Also the hotfix not to install is KB940510 in Vista.

    HEY GUYS

I HAVE INSTALLED IT MYSELF AND IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE!

IT DOES SAY THAT IT HAS 30 DAYS TO BE ACTIVATED..BUT I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IT SHOWING “THIS IS NOT A GENUINE COPY” ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN AS SOME PEOPLE HAVE MENTIONED.
ALSO IT IS CONNECTING TO WINDOWS UPDATE AND INSTALLING THE UPDATES PERFECTLY FINE FOR ME.
    HOPE THIS HELPS GUYS.

IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SOME UPDATES ON THIS RELEASE PLEASE SHARE IT.

    CHEERS!

  218. Brolly
    July 14th, 2008 | 20:01

Yes this release works perfectly. Follow the simple instructions and it will work without a hitch updates and all. The only concern I had was if activation was neccesary in the future because it said I have 28 days to activate. I was just wondering if it will be ok after that.

  219. jozzy
    July 14th, 2008 | 20:04

    Hi guys,
After you installed the OS, did you get the 30 day notice right away? Because i installed it and its running fine with no “30 days left…”.

Maybe i just have to wait a bit while bill gates is siiting at home laughing at me just waiting to push his “activation” button for my version….

  221. Brolly
    July 15th, 2008 | 01:12

Yeah I got the notice right away, I have 28 days left.
I’m thinking I did something wrong though I’m quite sure I followed the instructions to the T. Can anyone tell me if I should reinstall this and do something differently or if I’ll be allright?

  225. jeffst
    July 15th, 2008 | 13:17

LOL you cant get rid of the countdown, like #200 said it’s just another craptastic BIE release. I downloaded the june x64 version and got the same message, and after 30 days my computer completely locked up, only showing me a black screen (no desktop at all) and I lost every single file I had. Why even release this crap? And I heard Microsoft tracks all PCs that are still not activated, logs your IP address, and watches everything you are doing on their stolen software.

  226. Ben
    July 15th, 2008 | 13:28

    @223 – 230
This is realy wierd. Like i said, I installed it, and its day 2 with no activation message. I installed everything using windows update and even sp1 (I geuss it didnt really comw with it). What did I do right? Wish i could tell you, I have no idea.

Btw, Im very happy with it so far. What can i say, Im a sucker for eye candy but dont have the cash for a mac.

  227. Activate
    July 15th, 2008 | 13:38

    Instructions to bypass activation:

    – install without entering serial, MAKE SURE to unclick “activate online” under the box where you would enter a serial number.

    - DO NOT enter account password during setup.

    - Once windows starts, you will have a 30 day activation message. DO NOTHING, dont change anything in your settings. DO NOT run updates.

    – After a minute or two the system should automatically shut down and restart. Once it turns back on the message is gone, and your vista is now genuine & activated. Now you can set an account password and run updates too.

  228. Ben
    July 15th, 2008 | 14:30

Lol i didnt have a serial number box pop up. Maybe i downloaded a differrent version?

I hope at the end I dont find out that i downloaded a virus version….

    @ Activate.

So basically, if you have the “30 day(s) to activate.” message after the install, it’s a bummed install?

If it is, it isn’t that much of a concern. I’ll just reinstall following your instructions. But I am pretty sure I did exactly what you described???

One more thing, one of the updates is called “Secure Online Key Backup (KB932926)” Is it safe to install this update, or is it another one to avoid? Perhaps this is the update that screwed the install up?

    July 15th, 2008 | 20:51

It should say “30 days…” right after the install is complete. Did your system automatically reboot itself after the first minute? Thats when it finally goes away. I read on a different forum that this release has a problem with certain motherboards not allowing the OEM crack.

Also, I Actually installed ALL updates, including the one ending in 510, just to see what would happen, and Im still showing as genuine.

Hello I have been trying to install this release on a 80gb Partition I made, but it always just stays on the last installation step forever, I left it 5 hours and it never completed, have tried twice now with a format of the partition and still no luck, can someone please try and shed some incite into this problem. Much appreciated.

FOR THOSE WITH THE 30 DAY ACTIVATION TRY THIS

I had the activation and followed the instructions ( no seriel, no password) but I didn’t tell it to update right away the first 2 times. My 3rd try I did everything the same but I selected install updates (the recommended setting) and now my copy is genuine. Hope this helps some of you.

    @ Pro

I don’t know if you ever played Crysis on a pc with dx 9 and dx 10 but there are major differences!!! So don’t say there isn’t!

Vista is cool and relaxed and it runs very smooth on my gaming laptop:) with 4 gig ram, core2duo with Nvidia 8700 GT i can play almost every game:) (And yes it is an 8700GT!before someone starts saying there isn’t, search for the Toshiba X200-191…. Recommend it to all of you

those who have not installed vista and not used it, they are missing very good OS for long. I have been using since its launch. After getting the SP1 it started flying. Just click and programme is in front of you. XP takes long time to open any thing as compared to vista. And what i say about Aero its beautiful. Those who are saying they can make xp looks like Vista its just like putting on any Local jeans and putting a any Branded tag on it. Try vista with this configuration, you will be delighted-
    Core 2 duo
    2 GB ram
    Graphics card
at least 945 or compare AMD chipset

and then come back to put your comments. ok. Love Vista. Great Work Microsoft keep Going waiting For Windows 7

thanks great release, works like a dream so far “day 2″ there is no 30 day activation thing. i left it to install and update like “activate” said

“After a minute or two the system should automatically shut down and restart”

not sure why people ran in to problems, must be hardware or poeple turning of the recomended update. anyway thanks
