3-4 years later we will be cursing windows 7, praising Vista and will have totally forgotten about XP, just as it happened with windows 98.
Its a never ending cycle I tell ya…

    Comment from 2001:

Windows XP sucks, 98 rocks. XP is all eye-candy and a resource hog, and is plagued by freezes and BSOD’s. Who wants to have to buy 512MB of ram just to run an OS? No thanks, ill stick with 98.

No they don’t. I get an average of 15FPS more in all my DX10 games then when I had XP on the same exact system.

i’m using both xp and vista, and although vista was buggy to start, once you update drivers and fiddle with it for a while (which is what i love doing) it works well and looks better than xp. still keeping xp going just incase tho.

How is XP better? I had XP installed on my new system and it ran great (3.4 Q6600 8GB RAM), but once I installed Vista it ran AMAZING. Seriously, It starts up 4x faster, programs open instantly instead of 5 seconds, games have higher FPS, and rendering is about 10x faster. Opening a 2GB photoshop file is almost instant compared to 30 seconds on XP.
Vista is meant for new hardware, so if you have new hardware use vista, if not stick with XP. You are an idiot if you install vista on an older system.

I’ll bet it ran better! Seeing that XP will only address up to 4GB RAM. Mob Hunter=jealous.

I am always amazed how Microsoft’s competitor and the press have mamanged to make Vista into such a monster!

Some of my friends who know litterally NOTHING about computers still often tell me “Hey, you are running Vista? I heard it sucks!”.

Why would it ? The conversation usually stops there.

I use vista and guess what ? It runs just as well as XP, and it is much cuter. :)

Dont get me wrong, XP is good too, but XP is a 8 years old technology. It is great for old laptops and stuff, but it is the past.

Since SP1 vista is better than XP but only -IF- you’re not running a PC from pre-2005. If you have 2gb+ of ram and a core2duo equiv there’s no reason to be still using XP.

The same thing happened with XP as mentioned by others in this thread, it only became worth using over Win2k after SP2. Of course most of you won’t remember that because you’re too young.

  25. Rahul
    July 11th, 2008 | 15:56

Im using a dual boot system (XP+VISTA)…………XP is only for games….VISTA is for all other work…….VISTA is visually very attractive…..n very secure too…..try running an XP system without any antivirus n see wat happens after a week……n try the same with VISTA…..

VISTA is definitely better…….but install it only if u have new hardware……..esp a latest graphic card.

    @ 24 Derp

Oh, I remember 2k. I actually didn’t switch to XP until late 2005. 2k=low sys resources=more room for games. Didn’t go XP until I had a gig of ram.

very true. I run all 3 major os here, and XP is the 3rd. still cannot decide if OSX or Vista is the 1st and I’m a long time Mac//PC user. Both have advantages over the other, don’t listen to any fanboyance. :)

You don’t know nothing about vista, since sp1, the vista is more faster and stable. I using now the Microsoft Windows Vista ULTIMATE x86 SP1 Integrated June 2008 OEM DVD-BIE, and is very good. Recommend BIE distributions too all. More faster is your computer, more you can push vista to the limits…

  34. KimJongWill
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:16

    @ 30

There is a x64 release by the same group in June:
    Microsoft.Windows.Vista.ULTIMATE.x64.SP1.Integrated.June.2008.OEM.DVD-BIE
Runs flawlessly and runs all updates.
Been using the Dell OEM for more than a year without a single problem, unlike XP which freezes up all the time and runs like crap compared to Vista on a newer PC.

@19-totally agree. Vista x64 ultimate w/ AMD quad 9850BE & 8gb ram…boots in 20 seconds, ALL games run perfect. just turn off aero & eye candy crap and it looks exactly like xp minus a few menu option changes. Give it up, its patched decently, and runs well if you know how to maintain it…its like a car. geez give it up

I’m usually up to date with software, firmware and most often also hardware, but I’ve skipped Vista completely. Well, I installed it, tried it out for a couple of hours with a neverending frustration and reinstalled XP. I’ll probably install Vista when I upgrade my hardware to dx10 compatible stuff, but I’ll stay with XP till then… this I’ll dload anyhow, it might come in handy :) Thanks!

I have a legit copy of Vista (with Key and all) that came with my laptop and i’m about to reformat…will this mess anything up or can i just enter my key when installing? Would love to save time and hassle having to go through all the updates (including SP1) again.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:28

Why not just release the 64 bit version while they were at it?

  43. ME
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:28

yes a stock vista will outperform a stock xp but you will only save your self on average 2 secs lol its nothing!

BUT a custom 64bit XP will outperform vista by a LONG way! i am currently running this 64bit xp and its got the options to make it look like vista and run more stable and faster but i personally hate the vista look so i have my own skins installed.

and to those ppl who think xp cant use 4 cores…. WTF???? lol of course it can!!!! im doing it right now lmao

  44. @40

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:30

When’s Microsoft going to realize that people don’t want to buy a new operating system every 3 years? Okay, not all of us actually “buy” it, but still… Before we even get used to using one system they’re shoving another one down our throats. They need to stick with a system people are comfortable with, like XP, and make constant improvements instead of scrapping it for something that’s not as good.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:33

Vi$ta is for n00bs and is wayaaaaay slower than xp and has BSOD every 10 minutes. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar or a paid micro$oft shill. Its physically impossible for vista to be faster evne on newer systems it makes no difference. using more resouces = slower. I installed vista, got bsod anytime I tried to do anything, and it was so slow it would take 10 seconds just to open a JPEG file. And this is on a quad core with 8 GB just like bones (the liar) claims to use.

    @38 WTF?

  49. Dustin
    July 11th, 2008 | 16:35

@47 – Microsoft’s reach in the computer market is so vast that they make a profit because of the number of people buying new PCs that come with pre-installed OS’s. Since Windows is the main OS for companies such as Dell, HP, etc…that is why they release a new OS ever few years and the reason people buy it.

    July 11th, 2008 | 16:44

First of all, this is a download link for Windows Vista, not a debate as to whether or not people are too scared to move into a new operating system.

XP with SP3 was FINALLY a fixed version of XP, based on the time it took for XP to become a useable OS, Vista is light years ahead of it.

For people with old, underpowered systems, they can’t use Vista and get in a hissy fit about it, grow up, buy some real hardware or simply STFU.

All these XPSP3 junkies, that aren’t old enough to remember that EVERY OS has had the same issues with adoption, need to realize, sooner or later you will have to upgrade or change OS’s. Or else, like now, you will be left in the dark due to your fear of change. If you want to keep your push mower instead of a gas or electric mower, have at ‘er; it’ll do a great job all the same.

Again, if you want to debate XPSP3 and you REALLY think anyone else does, other than people also using it, then find a forum somewhere else to debate it with your cronies or some people who actually care that you can’t get out of your confort zone.

Thanks for the post, Christian, don’t need it myself as I have an OEM but I am sure it will help a lot of people who just don’t have the dough for it yet.

and who cares about the looks of vista? you can replicate vista’s looks on xp very easily if you so wished but i personally dont like vista’s looks but like i say looks arent important as there so easily changed on both vista and xp lol

By running Vista you are basically an unpaid Beta tester for Microsoft…They should know better than to release products that are not fully tested.

You wouldn’t buy a car that hadn’t been completely tested for safety and reliability would you?

The software dictates the shelf life of Hardware, we’re being brute forced into upgrading out gear every couple of years just to line the pockets of the richest people in the world.

And they wonder why people use pirated free software…

Awesome release, was waiting in anticipation ever since the x64 BIE release made it’s debut. Honestly, Vista is not so bad with capable hardware. In fact, Vista – with all its multi-threading optimizations – makes better use of high-end hardware than XP ever will. I am slowly being coaxed away from XP being the end-all-be-all…that said, I still do express high regard for XP, and have even as of yet fully migrated from it. It’s a tough OS to let die.

BTW – We need a MS link! Stat!

    @8,

XP will be running on CPUs a lot longer than Win98. MS woke up after 98 marketing wise, at least. Putting the year it was released in the name instantly dates it. Win 98 just sounds older and older as the years passed. XP has had a longer support run than Win98 ever did. So, XP will never be looked at as Win 98.

And those saying get Vista because it runs better on new hardware. Please try and listen to what you are saying. Everything runs better on new faster better hardware. Linux runs better on a newer machine. It’s called collusion between MS and manufacturers. Look it up.

can anyone else confirm that its genuine? I also tried the june release and it says not genuine and will be reported to microsoft as counterfiet. as soon as I install my desktop turns black and says this copy is not genuine, and when I start i only get a black screen with “update now” and If I cancel my computer restarts to the same screen. so now I lost ALL of my important data and being reported to microsoft as a counterfitter. Vista sucks balls, what kind of OS would BlackSOD you out of your own files? Will never try vista again, xp is so much better ill stick with that untill windows 7.

I think the people that say that Vista sucks haven’t installed it on their pc or haven’t gotten use to it yet. I use to have Xp and I luved it but when I installed Vista at first I didn’t like it so much. After a while once I got use to it I really enjoy it more than XP. Vista has more features and has alot of improvements like for example the sound quality is awesome. Vista works perfectly fine and I wouldn’t go back to XP. I been using Vista now for about 6 or 7 months and its a great OS just give it a try.

    @ 78

I have a Linux Install on the same machine as vista, c2d with 3GB ram, and linux is nowhere near as fast, in any area. Vista out performs linux in everything Ive tried when comparing the two. The one thing I can say for Linux is that it installs a lot quicker, but the time spent configuring your system to run with it kinda makes the quick install pointless. Vista automatically found + installed almost every driver I needed too. Much better OS than Linux.

    @11
What ever 98 BSOD every 10 seconds.
XP maybe every 4 months only because Nvidia don’t know how to make drivers properly.

Vista can only say compatibility is a very big issues.

Linux is great, but without tweaking, customizing its crap. The most use ubunut anyway, and that is kinda the big. crap in linux distr. history. The “Idea” behind it is great, but a naked debian distr. with dif. naem is kinda poor “product”.

If linux go with ,gentoo, slackware, debian[real] or any unix like system. Always select the “original” ones!! not any salckware based, debian based, gentoo based…those are crap[most of them]. Iv tested until today about 100diff. Distros, and for me only Slackware,Debian or FreeBSD are good to be calle dalternative OS.

If u need “copy” of ubunut crap, go with mint!

People, I’ve been using computers since DOS 3.1,
XP is the best, and for all the i-diot-s that think DX10 is all that, it’s not, play a game in DX9 and DX10 side by side without knowing which is which, I bet you won’t even tell the difference.

btw, I need this dvd to install it on some computers here as some other i-diot-s over here think Vista is better.

can someone upload it on netload with 400mb links?

    @ marco

That depends how u installed xp b4[c: and d:]. If u have 2 or more partition, install vista over c:[reformnat c only].

But before doing that, dl virtualbox and install vista as “guest OS”. U can try it there, b4 atte. to install nativly.

I have xp sp3.Very satisfied with it.I’m plan keeping it for long.I’ve seen vista after sp1 on many friends with new & powerful pc and my opinion is that it rocks, and it’s definetly faster than xp,but i don’t have money for a new pc.

wish they had better driver support in free and open bsd, i tried with several computers, not once worked :(
whereas ubuntu has so far worked with all (though not with all peripherals)
