@10 – Well when u have 10gig saved up then this is okay. But no point dl anything that is more than 10gig.
Gonna start boycotting rapidshare and jump to megashare.
Btw. The price of megashare is quoted in USD?

Hey boys, is it worth switching to 64 if I already have 32 working fine? I have 6gb ram.

megashares is a good deal at 25 USD for 6 months of downloading.

@10 – Megashares is good if you pay for a link card, particularly in my country where rapidshare and torrents are all throttled. Thus I appreciate all Megashares links.
@13 – as far as I know, yes.

if #14 wants to make good use of that 6 gig, he will upgrade to 64 bit. but then go the compatibility issues….hooray for vista

Great release :) Dunno what all the fuss is about, BIE’s Vista X64 runs superbly for me, always has done. As long as you have a decent enough PC and dont rely on old/crap apps then Vista is definitely worth it….

  29. RandallFlagg
    December 15th, 2008 | 10:32

OK my bad, just noticed this is the X86 & not the X64 :( sorry. But still this should be a great release. Have used BIE’s X86 before with no problems :)

  30. M
    December 15th, 2008 | 10:39

Okay, here it is about 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64). The x86 can adress a totalt of 4 GB RAM, that includes memory on your graphic card, BIOS, RAM on the HDD (yes, there is) and everything else. The regular DDR-RAM is the last to be adressed. If you have a graphic card with 1 GB memory you’ll see about 2,3 – 2,7 GB regular RAM depending on the other components. If you don’t have a good graphic card but one with 256 MB memory you’ll see a lot more of the regular RAM.

Also, the x64 is more modern so it does the same tasks as x86 only a bit faster.

But you do need a x64-processor, but it shouldnt be a problem. Most modern processors are x64. Another thing to note is that programs written in 16-bit that works on x86 does not work on x64. Compatability for 16-bit is removed so check that before installing if you like old games. Almost all x86-programs does work for the x64 so that shouldnt be a problem.

If you’re curious and wonders about what works, download the x64-version and run it inside VMware and install what you want to it there. If it doesn’t work, then don’t change from x86.

I have been using Vista x64 for approximately two months now. Honestly, I wouldn’t go back to x86 for anything now. The only single hardware compatibility problem I’ve had was a scanner wouldn’t work because it’s old and Canon doesn’t make x64 drivers for it (can’t say that I blame them).

I have see night and day performance improvement with the switch. I also added 8GB RAM.

    December 15th, 2008 | 16:17

@40 Mojave….wat abt x86 softwares & games?? do they run perfectly without ne hassles?

  44. Mojave
    December 15th, 2008 | 16:37

    @Negativity,

I have had very, very little software problems as more and more companies get onboard with 64-bit.

I had to get a new free firewall. When I switched to Vista x86 a few years ago, I started using PC Tools firewall because at the time, it was one of the few free firewalls that worked on Vista. PC Tools firewall is not yet x64 compatible so I switched again, this time to FortKnox, which makes a 64bit compatible firewall.

More and more software is being released in x64 versions. I have x64 Gimp that I use exclusively for photos now (I have completely walked away from Adobe). My old AVG v7.5 FREE works fine. DVDFab, DVD-RB work fine. My Neato MediaFACE labeling software works fine…

BOTTOM LINE, as long as the software doesn’t have a 16-bit installer, it will work on x64. 32-bit software I have used works fine. Vista x64 has two program files directories. One is “Program Files” for x64 applications and the other is “Program Files (x86)”

All of the games I’ve tried so far work fine. I have tested and played Far Cry 2, CoD4, CoD5, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Left 4 Dead, NFS: Underground, etc. All work fine.

  45. bleak
    December 15th, 2008 | 16:49

@43 I’ve been using Vista Ultimate 64bit and I haven’t had any issues running any games or programs. For the first few months I had to keep a second XP partition to run some games (The Witcher had some crashing issues in Vista), but once Nvidia corrected their driver issues I haven’t had any problems. As Mojave stated the performance is night and day with a 64bit processor and at least 4 gigs of ram. Also you can choose to run applications/games in certain compatibility modes like xp, 2000, etc.

As a side note XP 64 has a slew of driver/compatibility problems that Microsoft hasn’t seemed to bother correcting, probably to push people towards Vista.

    December 15th, 2008 | 20:53

@40 Mojave, what do you mean you can’t blame them for not having a driver for 64bit vista? I think its bull$hit that a perfectly good scanner has to be replaced due to them not devoting one or two people a small amount of time to write a driver. Also, MS should have figured out how to run drivers for $hit like that in 32bit emulation or something. Or some generic drivers to at least get basic functions working for the thing.

It’s not like its a vid card that needs to be updated due to becoming obsolete.

    @420 soon:

I said I can’t blame them for not having a driver because the scanner in question was a Canon CanoScan 630UI. That thing’s about TEN years old and was marketed toward Mac users with the matching color scheme of the Macs of the time.

  59. USKKK sucks
    December 15th, 2008 | 21:58

Vista x64 rocks! Forget about XP already.

@420 soon: like #58 said. Besides, it’s not MS’ job to write drivers for 3rd party hardware. The blame falls completely on Canon here. Email them, whining about not supporting 10yo Mac hardware on 64bit Vista, see where it gets you…

if you have a duel core or quad core 2 gb 0r even better 4gb memory a 500gb harddrive a 256+ graphics card and are using vista with sp1 out peforms all other os with great stability

“Do the BIE releases have all those lines of code show up on bootup?”

Yes. Using the (Dec 08) BIE x64 release and there are exactly those lines of code, right after BIOS, right before the bootloader. Definitely not default/stock lines of code, some kind of mod.

“BIE’s Vista X64 runs superbly for me, always has done. As long as you have a decent enough PC and dont rely on old/crap apps then Vista is definitely worth it….”

Pro Tools is a crap app? How about 3DS Max, Photoshop and Maya? Vista runs these applications WORSE than XP. Those apps run better in XP and OS X than Vista. No latency problems for audio, and no OpenGL and driver problems for graphics.

If you want more RAM there’s WinXP X64, or Windows Server 2003. Vista has too many problems for PROFESSIONAL multimedia use, maybe it’s good if all you do is download porn. It’s not even that great for doing that because it uses so many resources for any simple task that’s no problem in XP. Tell me why we need Vista in the first place? What’s the point, other than those fruity colors?

What about games? You don’t need 4GB to play any game in XP, but some of the same games in Vista need more than 3GB. That’s why you got all these people saying they need more RAM. It’s not the software, it’s because of Vista!

Face it, Vista is FAIL, that’s why MS is rushing out Windows 7 so fast.

  67. LOL @ Samantha Yip

xp is fast compared to Vista. I have one lappy with vista home premium, and a notebook with xp. there are no adds on startup, only win.live.mess The reason I use Vista is I like titan Mahjong and titan Chess, cannot d/l them onto xp

caillin that isnt a good comparrison just saying that

its like saying you take a rolls royce engine from a tank and put it into a ford escort ofcource the ford escort will win in a race

vista is for more updated Pcs xp is fantastic now but that wasnt always the case when it 1st rolled out you couldnt get hardly anyone to leave win98 second edition was far far more stable xp was crashing all the time untill the service packs came out vista beta2 service pack is out soon am sure they would of iorned out some more bugs

“Only an idiot would use the bloated malware known as Vi$ta, when you can install linux for free and do EVERYTHING vi$ta does but twice as fast.”
I couldn’t find out how to download the Fx 3.1b2 through the “genious” package handler in Ubuntu, no problem with downloading and installing in Vista or Windows 7.

But I see there is something new for me here. Can Linux run games like CoD4, Fifa 09, NHL 09, Red Alert 3 and GTA San Andreas? Get my point? Please shut up because Linux can’t do everything Windows can.
And Vista is just as fast as XP when they use 1 year old hardware, so shut up.

Good points. Don’t use ProTools myself. Used to use Cubase SX, ran it on XP with occasional crashes, but generally ok. Tried upgrading to Vista, and everything just fell apart. In the end, I went out and bought a MacbookPro and got myself a copy of Logic. No crashes, no glitches (unless I push beyond its capabilities). Until Apple creates a dog of an OS like Vista, I’ll not consider going back, unless MS can prove Win7 is God.

Never had any problems with BIE’s releases, myself, so dunno what people are moaning about. And XP owns Vista. Simple as. Graphics bells and whistles DO NOT a good operating system make. OS X is just as guilty of going overboard on the glitz, but hey – at least it works.

    December 17th, 2008 | 03:14

    @83.

I posted message 79, but not 66. Why would I bother replying to myself?

Funnily enough, there’s more than one person who uses music software and has had a bad experience trying to switch to Vista. Hard to believe, I know. Maybe it’s a reflection on the fact that Vista isn’t all that great, maybe it’s just the simple fact that the complex code that goes into making a decent DAW is often very OS-specific, and so doesn’t cope as well as games and less complicated apps do. Maybe it’s both.

I don’t particularly care either way, I’ve found a solution that works for me, bathing me in smug.

    So no, you fail.

Oh, and where exactly were these ’same lies’? Apart from “XP owns Vista”, which is clearly just my opinion, where did I lie? Or even repeat 66’s comment?

I really don’t like these releases, the best and legit way to do it is either download the windows ultimate upgrade disc for free or buy it for cheap, install it without a product key, get any windows ultimate product key from limewire or such enter it, it will then say ‘this key has been used by someone else’ then it should give you the option to phone activate or purchase online, choose phone activate, call the number you see on the screen (this is for free btw) enter the numbers you see on the screen exactly on the phone, then the phone gives you back a set of numbers which you enter on the computer and gets activated for FREE with updates. THE LEGIT WAY, no need to download these intergrated and pre-activated versions! Email me for help jasal1233@hotmail.co.uk, Ill gladly help you! Have fun lol.

“…the phone gives you back a set of numbers which you enter on the computer and gets activated for FREE with updates. THE LEGIT WAY,”

Free? Legit? One or the other of those words is wrong, my friend. If you’re getting Windows for free, it’s not legit, and frankly you’re blowing bubbles out of your behind with the phone activation story.

Nah I’m not blowing no bubbles. If you do have Vista type slui.exe 4 into Start Search and see for yourself.

    h t t p : / / w w w . m y d igitallife.info/2008/10/13/how-to-activate-windows-vista-by-phone-activation/

I had Vista Home Basic and upgraded to Vista Ultimate (with the upgrade disc that came with Basic) using a product key I found with many others on limewire i activated my Vista. Since then my Vista Ultimate has been legit and blaitenly i got it for free. This has been working for over a year and i managed to get the SP1 update with no problems, and since then i been gettin full updates!

    I have a Problem

ok I run this with vLite 1.2, removed some stuff I don’t want, rebuild, made an ISO.

And when I do a clean install on HDD it asks for KEY, I skiped the KEY page, after install says 30 days left and it dose not get activated.

However if I use the original ISO, it gets activated, any idea how to fix the problem with vlite?

I can’t get this to work. Well everything seems to install fine, but then after it’s done it restarts and gets to the Booting “Windows Vista” and just stays there. I guess I have to find a different way to get vista on my computer.

@91 — same problem as me then, grrr i was so happy finding such a new release for my planned reinstall of vista

I downloaded this release from TPB and got the install asking for a serial, without modifying it…

Also: my install lags like 3 minutes between choosing language, clicking install, entering serial, after that, it never continues the install…

    Any ideas?

“I got it for free and it is legit.”

No, it’s not. Just because you used a loophole to get your copy activated by MS does not make it legit.

I’d advise people to steer clear of the phone activation since MS can quite easily log your phone number with the product key you entered, and get in touch with you when they notice they’ve got 100,000+ copies of Vista Ultimate active with the same key.

Your basic copy is still legitimate, but your Ultimate upgrade is not. I’m not judging – this BIE copy isn’t any more legit.

My point is simply that your claim that phone activation is “the best and *legit* way to do it” is BS.

If you guys want to settle the debate of Vista vs. XP, then all you have to do is configure a machine that has compatible components of both, machines equal in components, install the same software in each, making them identical in hardware and software and THEN compare the performance of each OS. I challenge anyone to point to a “shootout” between the two OS’s anywhere that uses the same criteria for testing ( they usually test Vista on a smoker and XP on some setup that people were using two years ago, and then state that “Vista beat XP” in this or that benchmark. I’m not picking sides here – I’m just pointing out that you cannot argue over something when you don’t have accurate data based on non-biased, fair and blindfolded research results to back it up. Right now all we have to go on is hype and con games.

    @88 wow

Ok what your saying is true but i wouldnt recommend this, I’d recommend the phone activation. I’ve been using this for over a year and nothing has happened, tell me do you really think microsoft has time to check up who’s using the same key, plus they’d be too busy checking up who’s tried to crack the software and block those users up. Even though 100,00+ people have the same key there are probably over a 1,000,000 Vista users, and believe me it’s better to have your Vista via the phone activation method than these pre-activated, who know’s Microsoft may have already catched up with this and are trying to think of ways to stop people doing this. Phone activation; and just on the safe side (if your scared you feel to many people are using the same key, go into PC World or some s*** check for a Ultimate product key and get out quick, then that’s how you know you and only that computer has that product key registered.

and a royal pain to try and download something from there packed in 400 rar files, and yea i know there are tools for that.. but why the hell not just use torrents then?

    Okay everyone, here's the summary:

    1) Installation was easy and took about 20 minutes.

    2) Windows Vista is activated if you follow the instuctions in the attached NFO file. For this remember the main points:
    a) Do not enter a key during installation though you can keep the box ticked that says "activate after installation"
    b) Do not setup a password for your account during installation. After installation is complete and the reboots are over, go ahead and secure your account.

    3) In terms of performance, it beats 32-bit Vista (or XP) with no doubt. The difference is truly amazing

    4) Almost all (but not all) of my old 32-bit programs work fine. All the essential ones i need are running perfectly.

    5) The 64-bit version of Firefox (known as Mine-Sweepr) and Internet Explorer kicks ass! They load faster and browsing is ultra-smooth.

    6) All modern games are working absolutely fine. Crysis Warhead, Gears Of War & NFS Undercover are blazing away without any problems.

    7) My only single disappointment is that i cannot get "Peer Guardian" to install due to a driver problem. I'm sure i'll get this fixed in a short while though.

Thank you BIE & LINXX for a truly wonderful upload. Keep up the great work as always !

I installed the release a couple of days ago on a brand new clean QuadCore machine, it worked great, and appeared to have activated. But a couple of days later (and yes, i did use windows update at some point, but I didn't install KB940510 which another post told to avoid) and now it says "28 days left to activate". I tried reapplying VistaLoader 2.1.2 and also the newer 2.1.3 but both failed and locked up on boot (required me to restore c: drive from backup).

So my question is :) is the release still cracked? i.e. when those 28 days run out will the release still work? Or is it toasted due to (maybe) windows update or…? Cheers.

  113. still won't boot
    January 28th, 2009 | 19:57

I know this is a good file, I know I got a good torrent because I tested it by loading Vista using the update method by starting it within XP. I am very happy about that,
My issue is that I can't get it to boot.
I have tried various methods and I have researched the instructions for all the programs I am using and followed the directions, but the burn process still results in an unbootable disk.
If someone would please be so kind as to point me toward the programs, tools, or methods used to create a bootable(!) version, I would really appreciate it. I have a brand new LG burner (burns all types of CDs and DVDs) and I have succeeded in burning several fine copies that will upgrade but won't boot so I am confident my burner is not the problem.
    I need detailed instructions please.

  114. I figured out how to do it
    February 20th, 2009 | 14:01

This is how to burn a bootable Vista DVD.
I figured out what I was doing wrong. First, here is the correct way:
    1. download file
    2. unpack with Winrar, if it doesn't unpack as a .iso file, you did it wrong.
    3. burn image to disk with Nero.

The problem is that I was using programs that couldn't properly unpack .iso files and burn them.
I avoided Winrar for a long time because it was so big, but it works so it is worth it.
