On another scene board, you’ll notice Eth0 just released a July slipstreamed Vista Ultimate based on NoPe’s OEM release. I’d stick to what Eth0 choose to update over some new group.

If you go to vista you will see a drop in performance, and the video card drivers are not very good yet for ati/amd or nvidia, and sli support is nonexistent yet.

There really isn’t any good solid reason to get Vista, and it bogs down the computer. XP is stable, well-rounded, takes less system resources and has much better software compatibility. Also, Vista tries to control what you do and puts restrictions on you.
For gaming I would install both Vista x64 and XP 32bit (Gamers Edition)
If sg is not Vista compatible, u can play with the xp version.
x64 games run better on Vista (WoW and a few others, google.. )
My Vista uses 1.5 GB RAM with all visual effects on, with Azureus running, sidebar, firefox, MSN, Antivirus, and some small apps
Othervise it’s (almost) the same speed as xp
Restrictions i found:
Deleting non used WIndows (Vista) directory (NTFS restriction)
same with program files dir
otherwise it is operatable
turn user access control off!

You can download updates in Vista even if you don’t have a valid serial, or you haven’t activated yet.
In other words, updates in vista don’t have anything to do with activation.

I have vista home premium in my Asus and it sucks. Its always blocking some aps and ocorres very frequently freezes from programs like msn or IE

I got my self a brand new computer with 2GB memory and have been using vista ever since, don’t really miss xp, I guess it works pretty well with enough horsepower

I don’t think there are things like language packs for windows OS’s. You have to use a localized version. For example if you buy it in your country it will be your language.

Friend of mine are fine with vista and gaming, and they should be since their systems all have like 4 gb of ram on quad core systems with very high end graphics cards. For myself though, with only 2gb of ram on a dualcore AMD system, I prefer xp. So picking one or the other from strictly a gaming standpoint depends on your hardware imho. High end, pick vista.. medium to low; XP.

Hmmm. Windows Vista Ultimate has language packs, you just download them. This is one of the extra features for the ultimate version. I have run Vista Ultimate 64 om my AMD 64 +4000 with 3gb RAM (nvidia 6800 256mb)for a long time now, and it is way more stable than my previous XP install. I am also running Vista Ultimate x86 om my Intel P4 3.4 2gb (nvidia 7300GT 256mb) box, and use it with my 37″ LCD in the living room. (my other boxes are using XP (3) and Ubuntu (2))
I have no problems with games, and HD movies run fine, both blu-ray and HD-DVD. re encoded to mkv and wmvhd are also fine.
I was a bit afraid of moving to Vista at first, but I really like it now. It boots faster than XP, and is way more stable. So I recommend it. (but i would prefer if we all used Ubuntu)

Um, I don’t know what you mean by “Boot loader crap” ’cause I tested the Win Vista Ultimate (Eth0 release) myself and it worked beautifully, updated fine also.
also, of course you can chose NTFS & FAT32, but as always it’s recommended to pick NTFS

Vendors need to support 64-bit Vista. If they want us to move to a new O/S then what’s the point in sticking with a 32-bit version? I have a quad core intel with 4gb ram and it’s only running at 50% of it’s power because of the bottleneck with the 32-bit O/S. If they want us to push forward with technology then we all need to step up to the next generation proper.

Why in hell do you want to use FAT/FAT32? NTFS is one of the few good things they invented…14 years ago…completely closed source. But it works.
FAT/FAT32 is a really bad FS and the only reason i can think of you wanna use it is to share data with a Linux on another Partition. Or on an external USB Drive to share data with a Mac. But never ever use FAT for the OS’s Partition!

Don’t bother with this, get the ETH0 release instead. Same Vista, slightly more compact release, and *from a proven group*.
Vista is a great concept but a sad sad product…And as long as XP is still around, XP will be my number one product to use and enjoy.
You will need at least 1Gb memory to run Vista properly! I use 64bit version! BTW: Some drivers are better written in Vista (Intel X3000 3DMark06 XP32: 600| 3DMark06 Vista64: 900). Vista is the first true 64 bit SO! For games 2GB or more memory is required! Vista is the future, XP is the past! A very robust system indeed!

Just search for a torrent called:Vista x64 Retail. it’s a clean OEM copy. Install with no cdkey then chose your way to crack,activate,bye it or just try it for 30 day.

I’ve already installed vista on my laptop. Reason I went back to XP. (1) It takes up to 15GB of HDD to install!! (XP takes 4GB I think or less. PeerGuardian 2 doesn’t work on Vista either.

I tried Vista, and to me it was near useless. It looks great and has some nice (minor and visual only) features, but my favorite software and even some hardware didn’t work with it (yet?). So yeah, to me Vista sucks and I’ll stick to XP. XP forfills my needs, Vista doesn’t.

People are waiting for 9XXX and 3XXX next gen of DX10 cards to fix the screw ups. Developers are still trying to work around the partially software layer DX9EX compatibility and no hardware audio acceleration in Vista so that older and current games even future games won’t suck so much.
I work with games and I test the games on 20 same Config PC and WinVISTA Ultimate is the best in PC Gaming , for example Spider Man 3 , Splinter Cell Double Agent , … hwo dont run in most xp , in vista work clearlly ! For Example in GTA San Andreas , all full grafics work with no problem on anny grafic card , ATI Radeon, nVidia , Winfast …. and if you dont know , about 2 days ago , Vista wass updated the DirectX 10 with major suport , atleast 1 gb on my space disc!

One more thing, CrystyXp, Microsoft updates windows every 2nd tuesday of the month, not DirectX. The july tuesday Vista update had 6 patchs and a DX10 benchmark, no DX10 updates at all. Unlikely it can boost performance for anything.

I’ve been through it all – from the days of 3.1 all the way to vista ultimate and I KNOW that XP is the best way to go hands down. Look at the stats – saw a guy that said vista worked fine with 1.5 gb of ram! 1.5! XP can run fine on 128 mb of ram and runs at peak performance at 512 mb of ram. XP is, and as far as I’m concerned, always will be the fastest, most secure version of windows. There’s no denying it. And vista fans say “But it IS more secure than XP!” well if you have an os asking your permission EVERY SINGLE TIME for something to go through or run, you’re not going to have many problems, are you? Vista is just not worth the upgrade. For the problems it will cause you’re better off staying with XP and holding out until Microsoft’s next os (which hopefully won’t be screwed up like vista!)

Im using Vista Home Premium and the bootup and shutdown speed is just so constant and hardly degrades. Unlike XP’s ‘Saving Settings’ which it just sucks as some might have problems of waiting on that screen for a damn long time.
Turn off Security Center, UAC, Firewall, and every piece of shit security integration there is in vista.
Vista have the utmost best loading speed for games and programs I can experience, no desktop lags, WLM pop-ups fine once I double-click in system tray..

Got vista on my comps these releases are your safest bet if you wanna pirate version. I dont think you shd go for the other cracks. It might look suspicious how your comp came with oem vista when it says comp with windows xp. lol
i have been running VISTA now for many months, and at first it really pissed me off, drivers were not supported, programmes were incompatible etc etc.
Months down the line and i have grown used to the system, i can honestly i could see no reason to go back to XP.
vista looks better, yes it restricts you in certain areas, but you can get around this.

The releases form BIE(x64 and x86) defo work. I had them installed yesterday in a dual boot with 2 hard rives (ide and SATA) with xp installed first (on IDE).
But now the boot loader is messed up and says there are missing files and I can’t boot xp or vista… so I had to run my XP disk (ETHO’s) and recover the C:\windows boot.ini file and repair it back to normal so I could boot xp…
It all happened when the setup was complete and I was on the vista desktop and waiting for the 2 second reboot for activation … the reboot happened and on boot up it tried vista and failed and then the fall back to xp and it failed leaving a black screen saying “cannot find file boot/ntlr “(or something) “press tab for help” and then goes to command line “GRUB” or something like that. I cant remember the exact file at the moment.
I know this ain’t a TECH site, but I know there are plenty of smart tech minded people on here,
Can anyone shed light on the problem with the boot loader or whats causing this in my case or what can i do as I have now tried to reinstall 6 times and I get the same deal from both x64 and x86.. cheers
