Folks, instead of second guessing MS's release management process, why not just wait for the Windows Team to make the official announcement and then download a genuine leaked copy. A genuine copy is more likely to be leaked from within the US, EU or India.

Or, club together with some mates and share the cost of MSDN Operating Systems subscription. Windows 7 is worth paying a $100.

Every huge software project will have a lot of bugs in the beginning. For example WindowsXP still needs to be fixed nowadays (it is 9 years in development now!). As long as testing is limited to few you will find the obvious bugs but those hidden ones will survive. Thats why waiting for a SP1 is a good idea for ppl that want to use Win7 on productive / critical Systems.
Remember the worm that shut down like millions of XP Systems? Though you can never be sure that such a hole in Win7 exists but it gets more unlikely the more it is used / tested by users and hackers.
If it was 100% save there would be no ActivationCrack either :)

all this nonsense about waiting for SP1 is just that, nonsense…

if you're worried about security holes… well the OS you're running right now probably has a few… doesn't mean you should format and go back to windows 3.0 does it? Infact, if you're all so worried about security… why are you even running windoze? get linux.

windows 7 seems to be what vista should have been… i tested the RC build on a 'made for vista' laptop (dual booted vista/win7) and win 7 ran practically everything with no compatibility issues and better performance…

so yeah… Win 7 > Vista/XP…. feel free to upgrade. yes there will be patches.. but i'm sure your current windows restarted from a patch a few days ago.

Sigh…THIS IS NOT THE RTM!! According to Steve Malkowitz (my contact inside Microsoft) the RTM WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL THE FIRST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER! They are doing this to try and keep this off the net until they can get this in the stores for the October sales. ANYONE who claims this is the RTM is too damn stupid to own a computer. Even Maximum PC and PC Computing CONFIRMED the release date is in September. Until then the final version is going through some last minute tweaks and then will be placed under lock and key until it is to be released. Microsoft has quite a bit riding on this and is taking NO chances on ANYONE causing them problems.

Oh, and BTW…NONE of the workarounds you have used so far will work on the final version and that has been confirmed as well. Don't you think for one second that MS already knows about these and since they know about these have already made a correction to stop these from being used? So personally I dont see what the big fuss is as you are NOT going to get a final version till after the first week in September. So stop acting like n00bs!

As such they have NOTHING to do with MS so your whole argument is based on a lie.

@147, you must like to live dangerously. EVERY release from MS (even the beta ones that this is made from) has stated that they will cease working in January of 2010. So since you are that ignorant, here it is directly from Microsoft themselves!

" Users will begin to experience unpleasant interruptions

As forewarned, if you are among the millions who downloaded the Windows 7 beta and you haven't since upgrade to the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC), you are about to experience unpleasant service interruptions. In lieu of an October 22 release, and a wrap-up for the RC phase, Microsoft began the end of life process for the beta release today.

Starting today users running the beta version of the OS will have their system shut down every two hours. Microsoft is urging users who stuck with the beta to jump to the release candidate, which includes a number of additional features and refinements. Writes Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc in a Windows team blog post, "If you're still on the Windows 7 Beta you should certainly look at giving the Windows 7 RC at try!"

For those enjoying the free Release Candidate, the good times will roll until June 1, 2010, when the RC build will cease to function, forcing users to purchase the new OS (or revert to Vista/XP). The RC download program ends August 15.

Microsoft's Windows 7 is currently in its second week of the pre-order program, which is nearing its end. The pre-order program will end on Saturday, July 11. Users can still snag a pre-order copy of Home Premium upgrade for a mere $49.99 or Professional for $99.99. Once the pre-order expires, these upgrade prices will jump to $119.99 and $199.99 respectively, with Ultimate edition being priced at $219.

Pre-orders will soon also available still in UK, Japan, France, and Germany. For EU customers, the pre-orders are especially sweet as they allow Europeans to snag the OS at its cheapest full-retail prices. In the European Union Microsoft will not be offering an upgrade SKU, but will be offering full retail versions at the same price as the upgrade versions in America. The international pre-order program runs from July 15 to August 14."

Those Windows XP Troglodytes should stop spamming a really great OS that Windows 7 is. Windows XP is dead, junk and obsolete and is a major stopping factor for Microsoft to really transform the PC to a modern 21st century personal computer. If you havent seen the videos at channel9 that show all the new great features that 7 has, you should right now, XP MUST DIE as soon as possible so we can take advantage of all the new powerfull hardware we have and some new fantastic applications that use 7's brand new tech appear. Windows 7 is the XP Killer, and the vehicle to a new generation of windows applications and games.

  24. J
    July 20th, 2009 | 09:50

Why would I be scared because these versions will stop working in 2010? I will prob re-format and re-install my OS at least 3 more times by then. So, if there is still not a working fix for these by then I will just roll back to something that is working. I dual boot between this and XP anyway, so at worst I would just use that.

As the blog post states above, I have nothing new to add regarding RTM today over that we're on track to RTM the last 2 weeks in July. This post is simply to let people know *when* they will be able to get the RTM bits. Again, this post is not announcing that we have RTM'd."

Ok some interesting find, after installing this version for 1 hour, AVG picked up a rather interesting Worm that duplicates itself within the computer. After some futhur investigation under WOW64 system folder theres a socks.exe, to my knowledge it is NOT a windows system file, and alot of common viruses disgusts itself as this process, upon removal, I've made sure the chances of this file leaking into my OS via network is very slim. You guys might want to check it out =P
