Microsoft Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100 x86 DVD-iND

Here’s the RC1 for Windows 7. Both 32 and 64 bit versions released by iND! Enjoy

Description:
Over the past few years, you’ve asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely. Now it’s time to share an early look at how we’ve used your feedback. Windows 7 is faster, more reliable, and makes it easier to do what you want. Both the everyday things and the killer “is that really possible?” things. Windows 7 was built around your feedback, so you’ll see a lot of things you’ve asked for. You asked us to make everyday tasks faster and easier, make your PC work the way you want it to, and make new things possible. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Improved taskbar and full-screen previews

The taskbar at the bottom of your screen is what you use to switch between the applications you’ve got open. In Windows 7 you can set the order in which the icons appear and they’ll stay put. They’re easier to see, too. Click once on the new large icons or bigger preview thumbnails and you’re ready to go. You can even see a full screen preview before switching to the window.

Jump Lists

With Windows 7, we focused on keeping the things you use most right in front of you. One example: The new Jump List feature. It’s a handy way to quickly reach the files you’ve been working with. To see the files you’ve used recently, just right click on the icon on your taskbar. So right-clicking on the Word icon will show your most recent Word documents. Plus, if there are other files you want to keep handy, you can just pin them to the Jump List.

Internet Explorer 8

Available now, Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 helps you do what you want online, faster. With innovations to the address bar, search, tabs, and the Favorites bar, Internet Explorer 8 brings you more information, with less effort.

Windows Live

With Windows 7, some features previously included in the operating system are now available for download through Windows Live Essentials, a set of free applications available for your PC and supported by Windows 7. You can download Windows Live Messenger, Photo Gallery, Mail, Writer, Movie Maker, and more. With these great applications, you can improve your Windows experience, and benefit from faster delivery of these features and services.

Windows 7 is faster then XP???
XP is proved to be over 19% faster then Windows 7 on quad-core!
I am happy with my XP, because is light years ahead on perforce, it is lightweight, has most part of the kernel copied from IBM(OS/2).

It’s been confirmed that Windows 7 Build 7100 is the official RC release. Complied on 21 April 2009 it is tagged as 7100.0.winmain_win7rc .090421-1700. More recent internal builds have been released, but 7100 is the official RC build.

The Windows 7 Release Candidate will be available for download on May 5th, although expect it to be leaked before then particualarly as MSDN and Technet subscribers will get it beforehand. Already fake torrents have been seen in the wild.

Builds 71XX will be based on RC1, and RC2 builds expected around August 2009 will be Builds 72XX. Given the pace of Windows 7’s development, if I were a betting man, I would put money in on the Windows 7 Release Date being before Christmas 2009.

Why the hell doesn't Microsoft just add another service pack to Windows XP and be done with it. Vista and Windows 7 isn't even necessary. If Windows 7 goes over as big as Vista, Microsoft might as well just quit the OS business. Windows XP is just fine. One of the best products MS has ever produced. They could just keep upgrading it forever. Add a few interface tweaks and it's just as good as a whole new OS. All this new Windows 7 OS stuff is just a way to extort money from gullible Windows nerds seduced by the better, much faster, more stable, get more women spiel

Exploit Allows Complete Control Of Windows 7 Machine

With Windows being the predominant operating system in the world, it's no surprise that it has the widest number of hacks and attacks aimed at it. As a result, Windows is often considered the least secure operating system by some users.

Windows 7 is out as a beta and the final version is expected sometime this year or early next year. Microsoft has also started to circulate the latest release candidate build of the operating system among developers and testers. Despite the fact that the operating system isn't officially available yet, a pair of security researchers have already shown a way that a computer running Windows 7 can be completely taken over during the boot process.

Researchers Vipin Kumar and Nitin Kumar have demonstrated proof-of-concept code that the pair developed called VBootkit 2.0. The software injects code into the Windows machine during boot up and allows the complete takeover of the machine and access to all files on the system.

Vipin Kumar said, "There's no fix for this. It cannot be fixed. It's a design problem."

Network World reports that while the attack allows a nefarious user to completely take over a Windows 7 computer, the attack is not a serious threat since it can’t be carried out remotely. A hacker would have to gain direct access to the computer to initiate the hack. The injected software allowing the takeover of the computer would also be erased after a reboot.

However, if the hacker had direct access to the computer, the hack would be very hard to trace. The file size needed to execute the attack is very small at 3KB and makes changes to the Windows files loaded at boot; no files are changed on the computer's hard drive. This makes the VBootkit 2.0 software very difficult to detect.

The latest version of the software allows the attacker to increase their user privileges up to the system level and they can remove a user's password giving access to all of the user's files. Once the attack is complete, the software restores the user's password to ensure the attack can’t be detected.

"The attack is not a serious threat since it can’t be carried out remotely. A hacker would have to gain direct access to the computer to initiate the hack."

I don't care. Every OS can be hacked with direct access!

  44. M3RC
    April 24th, 2009 | 22:27

    Luigi @ #56,

Was an interesting article in reference to the original post. There is a venerability that cannot be fixed with Win7.

And of course if you have direct access, you might as well consider yourself hacked – the OS doesn't matter…?

Can any of *you* guys be more stupid? Really, tell me cause i don't know! The year is 2009 and STILL there are some VERY VERY STUPID people claiming that Windows XP it's better, faster, smaller and more reliable than Vista, and more important than Windows 7?! Come one guys, XP was built over Win 2000 its more than 9 years old, how the h3ll it's supposed to still use that OS and keep up with the rest of the world?! Take a look at KDE (Linux) it's ALWAYS evolving, same as Gnome and many others. If we kept using all our OLD stuff where could we buy the latest U2 (just an example) album in tape?! By the way, why using DVD's if we can use the good old VHS players?! Like it or not it's time for a change, XP it's not dead but almost. You can grab a copy of Ubuntu and kick XP ass with it! If you don't have the resources for a Win VISTA/7 capable PC it's ok, stick with XP or best like ReactOS, but, DON'T flame better pieces of software just cause you're stuck in the past. Keep in mind: Better OS's need better hardware, better hardware needs better engineers, better engineers needs better education which might be more expensive but in ultimate order leads to a BETTER future!

Windows 7 is very fast. I'm running it on a P4 2.6, 1.5 GB pc2100 ram. It is running awesome.

But I've never had any problems with vista 64 bit though. Quad core, 4GB DDR3 1600 ram. However I didn't get Vista until SP1 was released.

I believe Windows 7 is what Microsoft wanted for Vista but ran out of time so they release it as Vista, the memory hog. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

7 is awesome. Give it a try.
And shut up with the whole copy cat crap. Its boring now.

    Lie:
"Over the past few years, you’ve asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely."

    Truth:
"Over the past few years, we made the biggest piece of sh*t in the world named Vista, and now we're in hurry to fix the damage already done…"

I agree I get higher fps in 7 then xp, it's about time though because in vista I would lose about 10 fps so I'm sticking with 7.

    @dafranca
Windows 95 is much faster than Windows XP. XP is bloated and uses a lot of memory! Windows 95 is light years ahead on perforce, it is lightweight. It runs great even on old computers. People are blind!!! People wants the new, but the new is not always better.

    @85 lol

People for god sake < either try the thing 1st or just stop the old fashion trashing and much much older comparisons

i'm using 7 since build 7000 and bug then were minor now im using 7077 which is the previous to this RC release and its more stable than XP Ever will be

i think 7 is an accomplishment

What is the point in upgrading from XP? Is there honestly a decent enough reason at the moment?

  69. Jokerski
    April 25th, 2009 | 01:44

I`ve installed it and i strongly recommend to all of you using the older Windows 7 version, upgrade to this one coz its more stable and less bugy, i was in the first one downloading this version from tpb and i m very happy with it, its 10%+++ faster than 7077, finnaly i can feel real differences :)

    April 25th, 2009 | 01:45

I'm looking forward to seeing the RTM build of Win7. I wouldn't expect it to be significantly faster than XP, but if it's close I'll be damn happy; you don't get new features without a performance hit. Vista just irked the hell out of me; once you look past the bling it's a horrible OS. Hopefully Microsoft gets it right this time around.

My machine has the muscle (3.7GHz quad), but I stuck with XP because it just plain works with zero issues and no f'ing around making things work. If the RTM version 7 can say the same, I'll happily toss Ye Olde XP into the trash. Here's hoping…

  74. Vista is better than XP
    April 25th, 2009 | 02:19

For anyone still using Widows XP………..Just take a chance and upgrade to Vista Ultimate and actually stick with it long enough and you will find its actually a better operating system. Oh i know your all sittin there sayin its to bugy and has to many flaws, but have you tried actually updating windows components? you will find it fixes those problems.

Ive been using vista ultimate x64 for the last year and i love it, i have no problem with it at all.

I was always hesitant myself to upgrade from XP to Vista, but i eventually did and i have no regrets.

Well thats just my opinion anyway.

    Anyone else like using Vista???

  75. sghsfgh
    April 25th, 2009 | 03:12

@94: Nah. Millions of us are. It's just the few whiners (comprised mostly of people who didn't even try it and bash it based on hearsay) who are making a lot of noise.

People who love Win7 (as in Vista Second Edition) and Hate Vista make me laugh. There's not that much difference between both.

That being said, Win7 is a nice incremental update.

XP works great for me. Who needs this repackaged Vista that runs like a brick and needs twice as much memory?

  77. bk109
    April 25th, 2009 | 03:38

Yep,Nr.94,It's been the same with my Vista32bit. At first I upgraded to it on a dare and then I stuck with it,for what,2 year now. I think that the only problem with Vista is that too many people switched over to it the second it hit the shelves(or Rlslog) and getting surprised by how bug-prone was it during the first couple of months… And after that, the bad word of mouth just kept going,as if noone remembers the XP in its initial incarnation (like catching 12 viruses during the post-install first hour) or the fact that the XP was still a vast improvement over the MoronEd. So a word of advice to all Vista bashers, try actually running the SP1 version for a couple of days and then make qualifications on which is better.

I have to say, Vista is my favorite (obviously I have a computer that can handle it, as I'm not complaining like the whiners who can't afford to upgrade their systems to something post-2004). I'm looking forward to working with Windows 7 (and am curious as to what it's release name will be).

Windows 7 is great for gaming. Currently using Build 7057. The upgrades from the original BETA have been painless with my official BETA key license.

32bit backward compatability is spot on. I have not been unable to run any 32bit apps. Though I would prefer x64 for all apps nowadays. There is a big performance difference.

Will upgrade to 7100 when a proper torrent appears and dual boot with Ubuntu v9.04 x64 (it totally rocks)

Have only experienced one BSD with my current build. And it only happened because I pushed the hardware more than necessary.

Windows XP should just die. I have no intention of ever going back to that Fisher Price operating system.

    "WinXP is bloated with crap!"…
    "WinXP is a system hog!"
"Nothing works on WinXP. Apps and games keep crashing all the time or they do not work at all!
    "bla bla bla bla".

… same thing happened with Vista and now is happening with Win7.

But let me say that I'm using Win7 build 7068 and it's great. No problems so far, except with torrents and that Alcohol 120% does not work. But that's about it.
Oh, and I'm using it with Aero glass enabled on a 5 years old hardhware: Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 7600GS 256MB AGP.

    Just for the big babys
It seems like Microsoft understood people’s complains about migrating from XP to Windows 7 and they are trying to offer them some help. Windows 7 will feature the Virtual PC technology and the Windows XP applications will be run in the XP environment while the user will use them directly from Windows 7.

Using the Virtual PC the users will be able to install applications in Windows XP Mode and run them in Windows 7. The users will see no difference and everything is made to be easy, so even the not-so-tech-savvy users should be able to do it.

Vista 64 is actually prety fast, boots up in 5–8secs. Dislike the fancy setup, cant get used to it. Still Like xp, simple and plain works for all my apps fine. Dual boot 4tw.

Windows 7? Duno I wanna try.

People still stick with XP cause they have old ass pcs, people complain this or that memory hug, most modern pcs have at least 4- 16gb ram. 500-800 ram to waste isnt much, not like you're going to use it anywhere else, most games only use 1-2gb if you like gaming. Get a job and build a good pc. I built a nice quad setup using phenomII 940 3.0 around 350-450$ only, can even build a dual-core 3.0g just around 150-250$. Intel is nice but pricey will get later.

Hopefully windows 7 bugs will get ironed out soon.

@126 educate yourself: Definition of IRONY http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony

Oh, btw it's awesome for the people that waste money in 4GB of ram and say: "I use Xp and in idle mode it only uses 200mb!" Yeah, great way to waste money! If you have 4/3/2GB of ram way the h3ll can't you use it?! I have Vista and in idle mode it uses about 1/1.3gb of ram, so what?! I have 4gb to use!!!

Its great to emulate DirectX 10 in XP, without the proper architecture to support it, it does nothing more than DX 9.0! Are you still hoping for an DirectX 11 version for XP?!

Wake up! Windows eXPerience its slowly dying, gaming in windows Vista its much more fun and faster (frame rate) than in XP! (Prove me wrong…)

    Why do i even bother?!

This release is a piece of garbage. I just installed it (am actually typing from it). My max screen resolution on my laptop is now 1024×768 (my normal resolution is 1440×900!), I can't use my laptop's mouse's functions (i.e. being able to scroll by sliding my finger down the side of the mouse), programs run a lot slower too.

Looks like I'm going back to Vista Home Premium (which is 10x better than this garbage).

people come on! A visual tweak is one thing, the changes are under the hood! Different task proccessing approach, differently allocated resources, native support for parallel proccessing etc, etc, these are the main advantages over the older OS. Not everything is upgradable. Even Intel's CPU is based on the ages old 80×86 architecture, and software market refuses to go new with completely different x64 – Someone need to make a clean cut on the technology and go in a entirely different direction – that would put a massive load of software out of business – that's something that companies cannot allow… Like gas based engines in cars. Oil industry would suffer so we continue to pollute our homeworld :)

  115. Gabelj
    April 26th, 2009 | 17:28

    @Firedeimos

Sorry to burst your bubbles but in vista 32bit you can't allocate more ram than in regular XP. It says 4gb but not all of that is usable. I have tried it filling all the ram with sound samples (audio software) and after the same amount of ram filled with sounds, I got an error – not enough memory – same as in XP (program is Steinberg Cubase 5 – vista optimised, etc)
In 32bits there simply isn't enough bits to address more than 4GB, and there is virtual memory of your hardware which has to be placed somewere too. As proccessor's space is at most 4 gb wide, it has to put all of it under the upper 4GB barrier so it will overlap with your upper area of installed ram. So you can't use that overlapped area. The difference in vista is that vista only detects that you have 4gb of PSYHICAL ram installed, it doesn't mean you can address it. The final amount of ram available to you depends on how big your overlapped area is ( Mother Board resources, video ram…) Only way to get more than 3 – 3.5 GBs is to use 64bit. I have Windows 64bit which sees all of my 4 gb and much important, can fill them with audio samples!

@Gabelj I never said that one can use the full 4GB on a 32 bits VISTA based system! The max its about 3.3(…)GB. AND, NO you DON'T need a 64 bits system to use more than 4GB!
So once again people, educate yourselves: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx

Scroll down and check the max ram in a 32 bits system, for Win 2008 Server Enterprise (PAE enabled)

    @Firedeimos

I am "educated" well enough, you *need* 64bit system for more ram. With pae enabled you'll get 48 bits wide address space, but none of the software can use this – at least I didn't found any. That PAE thingy is only a theory… Full 64bit written software is by default enabled to use all available ram. On the other hand no one is writing software able to use extended ram. Standard 32bit software isn't able to use all the extra.

@130 Firedeimos your whole post is rather naive it falls just above an Epic Fail. Your assuming a person with the knowledge to obtain a patch for Dx10 for Xp wouldn't have the hardware to support Dx10 and then you have the nerve to make Vista seem like it's the very best your crazy. You sound like one of those users that fell for Vista's hype when it came out and now you have to settle. Like in the scene world Vista's been nuked and Win7 is it's proper try using Windows 7 for a while buddy. Only thing Vista has going for itself is Dx10 and since this patch works for Xp it's history………

They really need to start from scratch with this dam OS. Feels like their just recycling it.

They're trying to gimp us with another what 6-7 versions of windows 7. -_-.

It is a good idea to use current version of whatever software or whatever your using, cause most of your hardware will be SUPPORTED, if you have current gen hardware.

I am calling complete BS on the people who claim that they have no problems at all with any game they throw at it. Utter bullcrap.

It is obvious there is an agenda here with some people. Enjoy your job at Microsoft? ;)

No thanks. You can keep your repacked Vista.

@132 Becuase I like paying for good commerical software that comes with support and warranty. I don't like free crap like Ubuntu that is supported by geeks on forums.

@M3RC – No big deal, any computer can be hacked with direct access. Every OS has flaws.

    @62 No, Xerox invented it.

@111 Yes, Ryan, give it a try, you'll be surprised at how stable and production ready it is.

@127 Because it's not OSX. Thankfully.

First of all, let's not get hung up on the visual enhancements. There are a lot of changes under the skin that make this the best Windows yet. I've been running the RC now for several days. It hasn't GPF'ed once. It's faster than XP or Vista, is using less memory on my computers than Vista or XP did, and that's BEFORE I even started tweaking and shutting off non essential services.

The new UI enhancements are more than gratuitous gloss (as with Apple) and make using applications much more productive.

My Dell M1330 boots to the logon prompt sub 20 seconds and shutdowns down in sub 12 seconds. This is a massive improvement on XP and Vista. My install consumed up just over 6Gb compared to over 10Gb for Vista previously.

The new Media Player and Media Center are fantastic to use. Much simpler than before with better organized media libraries. Native support now for XviD and DivX as well as H264 and Dolby Digital Plus. DLNA support is also improved, it found the other DLNA devices on my network very quickly thanks to the network level integration of DLNA discovery.

Even more impressive was that it correctly detected all of the m1330 hardware and installed the right drivers first time. Try that with *any* flavor of Linux!

I believe it will be lucky 7 for Microsoft and this version could be around as long as XP.

I'm betting MS will go for July 7 release and the build number will be 7777 :)
