Releaselog

Microsoft Windows 7 Build 6519 M1 DVD-MSBP

With Windows Vista finally behind us, it’s time to turn our attention to the next Windows client release, which is currently codenamed Windows “7″, though Microsoft has used other code-names, like “Vienna” and “Windows Seven” in the past. This release is the early build which was showcased at a conference back in January ‘08. Remember to read .nfo first before installing. Enjoy.

Easier. Windows 7 will make it easier for users to find and use information. Local, network and Internet search functionality will converge. Intuitive user experiences will be further advanced. Automated application provisioning and cross-application data transparency will be integrated.

More secure. Windows 7 will include improved security and legislative compliance functionality. Data protection and management will be extended to peripheral devices. Windows 7 will advance role-based computing scenarios and user-account management, and bridge the inherent conflicts between data protection and robust collaboration. It will also enable enterprise-wide data protection and permissions.

Better connected. Windows 7 will further enable the mobile workforce. It will deliver anywhere, anytime, any device access to data and applications. It will enable a robust ad-hoc collaboration experience. Wireless connectivity, management and security functionality will be expanded. The performance and functionality of current and emerging mobile hardware will be optimized. The multiple device sync, management and data protection capabilities in Windows will be extended. Finally, Windows 7 will enable flexible computing infrastructures including rich, thin and network-centric models.

Lower cost. Windows 7 will help businesses optimize their desktop infrastructure. It will enable seamless OS, application and data migration, and simplified PC provisioning and upgrading. It will further efforts towards non-disruptive application updating and patching. Windows 7 will include improved hardware- and software-based virtualization experiences. And it will expand the PC self-help and IT Pro problem resolution diagnostics in Windows.

This has to be a fantasy release. I seem to remember that we had quite a few “experts” here saying that this would not be released before 2010, even though MS clearly stated that this would be out next year.

Guess the people that thought they knew more then the people making the OS at Microsoft need to rethink their condescending positions of being a know-it-all.

O_O You’re kidding right?… MS needs to build a new OS from scratch and not keep extending their OSs like they did with Vista and throw a new one out every two years. I do not and will not regret switching to Apple and OSX. :)

This is in no way a beta release. This build is still closer to being in alpha stage and was released mainly for hardware manufacturers to start working on compatibility issues. Unless you have a testing platform ready, I wouldn’t recommend anybody using it especially on your primary machines.

About Windows, Windows 7 Ultimate failure in the making…

I don’t trust M$ can pull this off, they’re gonna flop this OS too… hopefully they won’t force it on new computers like they did with Vista.
I wish I didn’t hate Apple from all of my heart, or I would’ve switched to Mac long time ago… damn these BS corporations and their stupid mistakes >:(

  52. Pro
    June 11th, 2008 | 16:53

yh it should, btw it is not possible to change the time in the VMware settings constantly back to the one listed in the NFO becuase Microsoft 7 includes a feature that prevents such frm happing, if you mange to find this file it is possible to bypass the restriction, kl

What’s the point of this post, and what’s the point of even releasing it? As the info states, the beta will self destruct in June 2008, and then they say you have six months of testing. Ummm, seeing as they posted it in June, instead of January when it was release you really only have a couple days to use it, if it hasn’t already expired. Kind of pointless really, but I guess if you want to try it out and have an extra hard drive to use it’ll be fine.

Nevermind, I just figured it out. You set the bios clock back to January 2008, and then you do have six months of use. Sorry, my bad. I still wanted to leave in that part about it self destructing though so didn’t delete my stupidness above. :)

Given Microsoft’s pattern lately, this release should be awesome after a service pack or two. Consider:

    Win2K: decent
    WinME: crap
    WinXP: pretty good after patching
    Vista: crap
Win7: ? (continuing the pattern it will rock!)

its not a fake since it runs on same vista engine and all i know that win7 suppose to be a “fixed” vista
because vista is sloppy by running huge number of software bundled with the os and require big amount of ram
also it is a hard os to use for a simple user since there lots of features included hiding in bunch of places makes it messy..
so they try to make it more user friendly
also this “alpha” build have some changes i just ran compare with vista sp1 and there is some changes in kernel and svchost and it runs less software but i dont sure about it couse its just “alpha” stage.

    vista rtm is very bad..
    +
vista sp1 is ok but much fixing needed

    Umm,

Vista has been out for ages, and they still haven’t got it even close to being right yet.

And some of you wish to play with a Beta Beta Beta Beta version of an app that is at least 3 years away?

    Now, that is soooo sad……..

it’s like what windows me was to 98 i guess to put it easy. so people saying it looks like vista - it’s going to, it’s not really a new OS, more of a major upgrade.

I’m tempted but i’ll wait a little longer till a more stable beta’s about (and one that won’t die unless i change bios date within a month)

    June 11th, 2008 | 17:55

Uh…@35- MAC OS gets more refreshes than anything.

And to the rest- I use Vista Ultimate x64 SP1- it works GREAT. I disabled all the “rich user interface” options, and it now looks like XP. It runs 99.9% of stuff I throw at it. It runs quick- bootup on my laptop is roughly 28 seconds (with a C2duo 1.5ghz & 4gb ram).

The key here is to configure your system correctly. Streamline it, use the newest/most reliable drivers, and if it works, DONT MESS WITH IT.

As far a windows 7- I’ll go for it when its FINAL. Honestly, if any of you skim over the news, you’d notice that they aren’t using a NEW kernel on W7- its vista. So obviously its going to look like it. Just disable stupid Aero and all the junk you dont need.

Oh yeah- and Linux only does a few things better, and overall is a lot more of a pain finding 3rd party drivers for all my hardware, and then configuring it all manually (usually @ the command line to boot…) Linux only does better with things like backtrak, and advanced hacking apps/scripting/etc. But hey guess what! SLAX! Debian live! Backtrack live cd! I dont need to install it- so it IS easier. But guess what…?!?!?!?! I GAME. So I need dx10/vista….

To all people saying “Haha I switched to [insert os here]“: good for you, we don’t care.

This doesn’t look at all like the modular design they promised, I think this is just a vista sp1 with some of the new functions built in, eg just to test those features.

Hogging your RAM? You are nuts. I saw a sale for 4GB of ram for $69 the other day. You can get a core 2 system now fully built for around $399.

Vista provides more kernel-based system services= more ram needed. I DO agree that it doesn’t make use of those services as RAM very efficiently, but GUESS WHAT? Capitalism has do do with that. The hardware/software industry has been in cahoots for awhile if you haven’t already figured that out. All the hardware builders just get a green light to roll out ‘new’ technology from the D.O.D’s master list of consumer-ready products. You know- they military has technology FAR beyond whats available to the public.

That trickles down to the market- then the hardware folks talk with the software folks and kindly ask their head programmers/staffers to either hire stupid programmers, or to get their intelligent ones to code horribly. Why? Well- if Vista were programmed flawlessly- it wouldn’t need tons of resources, therefore people would just stick with their current systems- and upgrades would only be driven towards hardcore gamers and the GPU scene would flourish.

    Simply put:

HARDWARE GUY: “Code this like crap so we can sell more hardware, and we’ll pay you lots of money!”

SOFTWARE GUY: “Ok! And we can mask it with a clever PR camp and release patches to appease the masses!”

Yay! the system works!!!! (for them)

it all depends on what you want to do with your computer.

XP= can do ANYTHING- except put your wifi car din monitor mode…heheh.

Vista= only use if you game & want DX10. I know its lame, but it runs JUST AS FAST AS XP IF YOU TURN OFF ALL THE STUPID VISUAL ENHANCEMENTS. YOU CAN HAVE 512M RAM AS LONG AS YOU DO THIS. USE VLITE. UGH. !D!OTS

Here’s to hoping Windows 7 is to Windows Vista as Windows XP was to Windows 2000. ;)

  92. failbot
    June 11th, 2008 | 19:11

Vista does have its weak points, but its not as bad as most make it out to be.
A large portion of the people that complain about it are just “bandwagoners” who are saying what they think will make themselves sound more tech-savvy. Another group of them is the *nix only crowd who really don’t give two turds about anything from “Micro$oft”. Then you have another group of complainers that are complete freaking morons.(Kind of like some of the posters here saying zomg this release is fake it looks exactly like vista, because they are too stupid to realize its for testing parts of the infrastructure of W7 OS and NOT the UI.)

  93. failbot
    June 11th, 2008 | 19:13

You also have the ones that complain about the appearance of Vista’s UI when it can be made to appear EXACTLY like XP or 98 with less than 12 mouse clicks(on a side note i hated the appearance of XP too, any box i have running vista or XP are both set to appear as windows classic) and these people know abso-freaking-lutely nothing about what differs the cores of these operating systems.

On another note looking at some of the very lackluster points that have been made against vista in this thread:

Vista takes up too much RAM:
Vista offers aesthetic features for its UI that take up a crapload of resources, as well as more kernel based services as mentioned above. That being said this can easily be disabled in the settings. You choosing to leave it running and take up your resources is solely on your shoulders. With UAC, DWM, and sidebar all turned off(i have no use for this crap though some people may think it looks nice) vista takes up less than 20% of the memory on my laptop(2gig) and less than 10% on my desktop(4gig)(roughly 200MB used). I hate to say it but if you have less than a gig of ram you shouldn’t be running vista at all. I mean c’mon, would you freaking install XP on a commodore? Get with the times.

    The interface is childish:

I went over this pretty much at the start of this, pretty much as easily changed as the interface of windows xp. Learn how to use your freakin brain please.

Now I can’t contest some of the faults vista has such as some issues transferring files to different types of media or other such issues(there are a few) and XP was nowhere near perfect when it came out either, especially until SP2. Hell, there are still some issues with windows XP that haven’t been resolved.

    /end rant

    June 11th, 2008 | 19:20

I would say it is still an alpha!!!!! look 99% like vista some VERY poor video issues on HD TV’s, alot of filler files not for anything YET……

All in all unless you have a secondry machine & wiling to play with it yourself & deal with crashes ( havent had any myself YET) avoid for now.

  95. Thraprod
    June 11th, 2008 | 19:26

Here is my thoughts on the subject:

I installed Vista on a 1.2g proc with 512 RAM. Without Aero running, it ran beautifully. No crashes at all despite some of the wacky things I do to my system on a daily basis. I did have some driver issues at first, but was able to find resolutions to them.

Now, my tax return came and I went out a bought a new (cheap) laptop (dual 2.0 Proc, 2g ram) with Vista on it (My motherboard had died the month before and I decided to break down and upgrade after using that MB for years on end)… still no crashes.

That being said, I ran XP for a number of years as well (with and without crashes, depending on some system factors), but I was smart enough to recognize that Vista was the way the market was going, and if I wanted to keep up on new versions of programs and whatnot, I was going to HAVE to upgrade and get used to Vista… so I went ahead and did it early.

On Linux, I have used Knoppix, straight Debian, Ubuntu, DSL, and a few others, and loved it… it’s price especially. BUT my problem with Linux is this: Programs and Games. Several programs I enjoy using or Games I enjoy playing, I couldn’t use without pulling a dual boot, which seemed like it defeated the purpose to me.

So in the end, I’m running Vista, am not rich by any stretch of the imagination, and don’t have any problems with it.

well it seems that most users that bash vista are either too cheap to upgrade or run linux and macs. As these are uninformed sources I find it quite easy to disreguard them. I run vista ultimate on 3 computers and have no problems whatsoever. These are all legal copies and I run an average of 100 programs on each computer and play newest games . I dont have any problems whatsover and I never will because I upgrade before I try a New OS. BTW i tried linux and it is free crap.mac I wont even mention.

Seriously, I couldn’t believe that at first because it’s like set to release in a year or two, but man! This is awesome, if I reformat I’ll try it out sometime :) But is this a leak or is it an official installer that Windows is giving to the public?
