Microsoft will add WGA also for Office

Microsoft is set to begin a pilot of a new Genuine Advantage anti-piracy mechanism for Office that will add a “nag-like” feature, akin to what is now part of Windows Vista, to Office. Office already currently includes an Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) validation mechanism (for Office XP and Office 2007), but Microsoft doesn’t do a whole lot to “punish” those it deems to be running non-Genuine versions of Office. However, as part of a new OGA notifications pilot program — which Microsoft is launching in Chile, Italy, Spain and Turkey, according to an April 8 announcement buried in a Q&A on Microsoft’s Web site — Microsoft is set to turn up the unpleasantness a notch.

Today, in current OGA validation process, there is no visual & persistent representation within the experience of being a non-genuine Office user. The outcome for being non-genuine today is that the user does not gain access to Office templates and other downloads. In the pilot the non-genuine copy of Office will also have an icon on the toolbar or ribbon indicating that it is non-genuine. After receiving these dialog box notifications for 30 days, Office applications will be marked with a visual reminder that the copy of Office is not genuine. Both the dialog box and/or the visual reminder will disappear once the customer gets genuine Office and/or uninstalls the non-genuine Office products.

Any idea on how they will implement this, I have had non-genuine office 2007 for over a year and it still shows as “activated”, I’ve updated it to sp1 and I have all the latest updates for it without any issues.

Oh… I think they should lower the price of vista and office.. I think in that way.. most people will buy a genuine copy.. for ordinary people.. the price is too expensive..

@10 Umm ya dude Microsoft is running out of cash… They could buy their own country, militarise it and crush 3rd world countries.

Anyways this is just something else to crack. Nothing more or less really. Whatever floats their boat to Cuba though.

I agree with #6 ttw Open Office does the job just fine.
There are many alternatives – free and some costing a lot less than Microsoft Office.
Many corporate and local government offices (in the UK) have already changed

    OpenOffice doesn’t suck …
It has really nice feauters and it will become even better.
The only bad thing is that it’s quite different than MS Office. If you’re used to MS Office, it wil take some time to get used to OpenOffice.

I’m not afraid of this as I use a legit MS Office version.
I’m a sudent and I got it very cheap :)

When they create proper OS like Linux that really works, then I will buy it.
They forget that a lot of people in offices or at home do not have internet connections, which make M$ OS-es really lame.

I give it 2 days from being released that it will be cracked and I agree with s0nSHYNE – eth0 will probably be the one to crack it.

surely this will be cracked, if you compare it to wga which ones cracks allows you to update and everything from the ms site, all this office version does is nag you, like that stupid little helper thing that appears and makes you want to drag someone into the street and shoot them

    April 9th, 2008 | 21:15

I use Vista but it’s a dead donkey, windows 7, minwin etc is slated for a 2009 (early) release because vista is muck. As far as wga for office is concerned there will always be a crack, I generally crack once and disable updates until I reinstall the OS. I don’t really care if it scares mid-level corporate monkeys to go genuine or not, I have a suspicion this is where it’s aimed and perhaps at eastern markets. It is un-news really. Micr0$0ft is the hungriest beast in the IT jungle, she always has been and will be for the foreseeable future at least. You have to wonder if this is related to genuine concern about bottom lines in the current economic climate and whether monoliths like microsoft are seeing some kind of danger on the horizon.

openoffice FTW — u can make it behave just like ms office or not, w.e u prefer. u just have to play with its settings a little. like putting on autocorrect options such as capitalizing the first letter of each sentence etc., the features are there they are just turned off out of fears of lawsuits.

The Eth0 crack for WGA is just as lame as their OGA crack. Get this instead:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/62756874/BasicActGates.rar

It has 3 files in it. In essence 1-click registry-hack activation that is permanent for Vista (non-Sp1), XP (all versions), and Office (XP, 2003, 2007).

    Enjoy!

  43. Fizzycakes
    April 10th, 2008 | 02:56

Wow, just another small obstacle for hackers to crack within days of release, seriously why waste your time making new security methods when they all get cracked in the end, and it’s not like no one would buy it anymore….all the people who aren’t aware of cracking would still pay for it.
Why not just keep it simple for us pirates?

Ok, after reading this, I just had to tell you guys. There is a really nice solution. Read on, please.

Someone already said it before. But what you need is Office 2007 Enterprise Blue Edition. It has every single Office app ever made, and is simple as mounting, burning, or extracting and running the setup. No serial. Nothing. No Crack. It’s actually what you could call an unattended setup. See, the way it works is that it’s the iso of the service disk that authorized Microsoft and third party computer vendors get. They install it, get paid for it, for a bit over to Microsoft as comission, and then bam, they move on to another one.

Probably the best part of reading this huge post is this: IT TAKES UPDATES FOR LIFE. It’s essentially the OEM of Office, and seamlessly updates with no issue at all. Trust me. I’m not some jerkoff RIAA or Microsoft twat. I’m a real guy, with an actual life. This is probably the longest post I’ve ever written on any forum/comments section, but after seeing the headline of this, I was like, Hell no, I have to tell them. Keep in mind, I’m no noob at using torrents/dcc/p2p/emule and all the otehr great stuff out there. I run a pirated copy of XP that I’ve activated myself, and I’ve learned how to tune the registry to get windows to do what I want. So trust me on this one, please. It’ll save you a lot of time. I’ve been using it for almost a whole year now, and have already updated to SP1 with zero issues. It’s a beautiful piece of work.

And now, the part you’ve been reading for the whole time, the greatest and most seamless release you’ve ever used:

    Torrent:
    http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3726391/Office_2007_Enterprise_Blue_Edition

Instructions: (Not that you should need them)
    1) Get yourself uTorrent, because it’s the most kickass torrent client.
    2) Click on above link.
    3) Download. (Shouldn’t take too long)
    4) Choose one of three installation methods:

    1–Easiest:
    a) Get winrar, 7zip, or any thing else that can open up an .iso file.

    b)Extract

c)Run the setup file. Don’t be an idiot, extract the whole thing, and don’t try anything fancy to install what you want by deleteing certain folders. All programs must be installed. After clicking install, just wait. Takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes depending on your computer. DON’T FREAK IF IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S STOPPED. IT HASN’T. It just takes that long to install.

    d) Then, click close. And bam. You have Office.

2–A little different, but does work.
    a) If you know your stuff, simply mount using any virtual drive manager. Bam, you have Office.

3–The best if you want to use on my computers (Not that you already can’t)
a)Use any burning software that can write an iso to a CD.

b)Specifically, pick the option that says “Open ISO to write to CD”. Burning the actual ISO on it’s own onto a CD does nothing except store it. If you don’t understand that, don’t bother with this option.

c)Burn at nothing more than 4x.

d)Put in CD/DVD Drive. Bam. You have office.

    Have fun guys!

Please rememeber, this isn’t anyone’s rip, or scene release. So don’t take credit for it.

Use it. It’s seeded very well, and I hit about 700 KB/sec on average while getting it.

  51. Yo
    April 11th, 2008 | 03:20

Quick note on the above torrent.

When I say it installs EVERY Office app, I wasn’t kidding. Here’s what you get:

    Access 2007
    Excel 2007
    Groove 2007
    InfoPath 2007
    OneNote 2007
    Outlook 2007
    PowerPoint 2007
    Publisher 2007
    Word 2007

You CANNOT choose what to install. It installs it all. I suppose that’s a tiny downside, but I couldn’t care. If you don’t really want them, just delete their shortcuts in the start menu, and you won’t hear of them. But for what you get, that’s a small small sacrfice.

Have fun guys, and long live the scene.

RLSlog, by the way, is a totally kickass site, and is now my most visited. You guys rock.

    Peace,
    Adriath

    @51 (Yo)
You’ve got some serious typing diarrhea.

I don’t know why people find it so hard to get past MicroScum’s protection. I have a retail-Box, unopened version of XP and Office, but I never bothered to open it because it was more of a hassle.
The reality is that MicroSoft’s aggressive approach at ’stopping’ pirating is exactly the reason people like me have no remorse about stealing their products.

Look, Bill Gates, I know you feel bad that your so damn ugly, but don’t take it out on the children of America just because you had your head dunked in every toilet in high school
(Even billions of dollars never healed little Billy)

Look at things like iTunes or FireFox, they should be proving to MS already that trying to force expensive, intrusive, and manipulative software/software protection just fuels the very thing they are trying to stop.
(Looks like I had a lil typing diarrhea myself :)
