Microsoft puts Windows Live out of beta
Microsoft’s Windows Live services and applications officially emerge from beta Tuesday, and the company is planning a marketing campaign for its online properties that it expects to reach an audience of 10 billion on the Web over the next two months. For the first time Tuesday, users will be able to access and download all available Windows Live services from the Windows Live dashboard online. Windows Live is the brand name for a set of Web-based services and applications Microsoft hopes will allow it to sell online advertising to compete with Google, which is raking in advertising dollars at an alarming rate.

Sources close to the company said that while Microsoft is not worried about its own profitability in the near term, it fears Google’s ability to monetize online services through advertising. It is trying to future-proof its own Web business to avoid losing any more ground to the search giant, they said. Microsoft divides its Windows Live offerings into two sets — online services such as Windows Live Hotmail, and applications that users install on their PCs, such as Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Photo Gallery. A complete list of offerings that are available in full release now can be found on the Windows Live home page. Should Google start worrying? I don’t think so…

don’t you just love MS
Does anyone know a good substitute for CleanMessenger? It was the best Messenger customizer ever, removing all the annoying ads. Apparently Microsoft coerced the author to stop developing new versions…
10 Billion internet users? That’s what I call long term planning! Especially when as of now app 1 billion peops use the internet as of now…
What does it mean by 10 billion audience. Theres currently approx 6.6 billion human population on earth. If they are currently projecting for 2050, I think thats too far.
Anyone care to elaborate on the meaning of the exact term “audience” in this article?
@2: I use apatch to remove all the ads
you can find it here: http://apatch.org/downloads.php
to Observer:
Try MessPatch. Go to http://www.mess.be and its somewhere on there. Decent amount of customization.
@5: Mess patch works well too
You can get it @ http://mess.be/
that’s the MS we know… jump on something that was hot 5 years ago (like myspace), develop it for a while to get some money, then abandon it.
Oh yeah… you can’t imagine how worried I am when hear that Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Apple, etc can lose money. Oh My God what a bad news!!
So if they lose what?
If all these will disappear tomorrow what? Well, if all these monsters will disappear, we will remain the same people, the only difference will be that they can’t inform us anymore about how many TONS OF BILLIONS they make every year.
You can’t imagine how sad I am when read that Vista wasn’t such a big success and because of that, poor Bill Gates made just a few BILLIONS…
And here comes the question of the day: “Should Google start worrying?” Well, I don’t know what to say…. I’m deeply concerned about that. I will not sleep 2-3 days trying to find out if Google should start worrying about Microsfot making more BILLIONS!
Now, after reading this article, I must go and vomit. And what I hare more is the idiots who write articles about those who eat our hard earned money.
M$ please put that Windows as dead into trash before it reaches users . Your help is as always highly appreciated O_O
“Should Google start worrying? I don’t think so…”
Ideology again. You don’t have a cow, man. You are in no position to even begin judging whether they should be worried or not.
Keep to reporting releases, that’s what you guys know how to do.
The list of companies that no longer exist because they stupidly thought “Why should I worry, I own the market!” when MS decided to compete with them is a long and distinguished one.
Hey, p-muney and emjay! thanks for the tips!
Ok, M$ really needs to stop copy Apple. Yeah, they were slick in Vista…. as this video proves, Microsoft DID NOT steal anything from OS X.

However… why does this look a LOT like .Mac? I mean, google, no. However, .Mac and Live are both services designed to natively work with an OS. Google sort of works everywhere. Come on, live is just .mac and iLife renamed, actually the web interface looks a lot like .mac also..
In other news … Fedora 8 is out, guys? You all had soggy pants when Gutsy Gibbon came out, this tops it.
This IS a matter of ideology. Google’s vision for personal computing is in the “node”; more and more WebOS features, decentralizing your desktop, etc. M$ view is that a computer should have everything you need. IF M$ is trying to become google, they will fail.
So this is aimed at users too clueless to know that all these things have existed for years from other companies, and probably in better forms?
“officially emerge from beta Tuesday”.
What is beta Tuesday? Like Shrove Tuesday but not as tasty?
Sadly this way of talking has now spread to the BBC as well.
Or am I being too anal about my language?
