Microsoft patches critical Windows bugs

Microsoft issued a critical patch for two vulnerabilities in the core graphics subsystem of Windows, one of eight fixes released Tuesday as part of its monthly security updates. Microsoft released a total of five critical patches in its April security bulletin. Two of them fix bugs in Windows, two fix bugs in Windows and Internet Explorer (IE), and one fixes a vulnerability in Microsoft Office. The critical rating means an attacker could potentially exploit the flaws to hack into a victim’s computer. The other patches fix vulnerabilities in Windows and Office and were rated “important.” Microsoft releases patches on the second Tuesday of every month, which has become known in the industry as “Patch Tuesday.”

MS08-021 fixes two vulnerabilities in Windows’ graphics device interface (GDI), one of three core Windows subsystems, that could allow a hacker to take over someone’s computer if a user opens certain kinds of image files, according to Microsoft. Of the five patches marked critical, security experts recommend that users also immediately install two others — MS08-022, which affects Windows, and MS08-024, which affects both Windows and IE. MS08-022 patches a vulnerability in VBScript and JScript scripting engines in Windows that originally was supposed to be patched in January, but Microsoft pulled the patch at the last minute because it wasn’t ready. MS08-24 patches a vulnerability found in all versions of IE. All of these updates should be automatically downloaded through Windows Update.

XP will not die, atleast not until windows 7 comes, and then vista will die faster than xp, its because XP is so much more stable, and much better, yes in many things, and requires so much less power from the computer, vista actualy kills ur computer and it totaly sucks in terms of performance when its a War of XP Vs Vista, u can just see that from installing XP and using it a month then installing Vista and using it a month, ur system slows down whit terrible ammounths of speed, and it has bugs, laggs in just the basic desctop.. i mean, its a frawd using / buyng vista, its just good because it hosts DX 10 and it made it more userfriendly for stupid people that didnt understand XP, wich is not that many i guess ?
And ow ye, it can use more RAM.
Wao.. thats not realy some improvement, as to what they sayd it wold be so much better att.. its well.. BS, microsoft sux. 98 and xp were ok.. vista they destroyed their litle rep that they ever had..

    @ Martin ,

how many times do you need to say “two of them fix bugs for windows”?

You said there are 5 fixes so seeing as you said the same thing twice I ask what are the other two?

Funny people always bring up Macs when there is something about windows. haha >.>

Its funny how the new OSX had more bugs reported than Windows Vista did when it got released. So why do ppl always complain about Windows and not complain about Macs?

@8, Haha 98 was bad…. I remember every time i used it, it would memory leak everywhere.

Thanks for the info as I have my Updates turned off. But as far as Vista/XP is concerned, if you have a fairly new computer or upgrade your ram at least to 2 gigs, then Vista works just as well as XP. I have them both (Dual Boot) on my 4year old computer and see none of the slowing that all seem to mention about Vista. It works as well as XP. We went through all this nagging when XP first came out also. Now the same people have XP and are complaining of Vista. And life goes around. Cheers

Yeah I wondered why my pc rebooted when i was at work.
…And people hate vista cause they have crappy pc’s. My vista partition loads faster then xp but i still need xp for my video editing. For some reason alot of the GOOD video editing programs have bugs with vista or just wont load.. ie: CCE

Man when i installed this update this junk froze my OS, which is windows vista ultimate! When i restarted my computer it froze when it came to the welcome screen. So I ended up havin to reformat my harddrive and reinstall a fresh os, and while I was installin the updates, I decided to install the april updates..man it froze again! So i’m thinkin this april updates has some of verifcation to prove it’s an authentic vista, becasue the vista i have is permantly activated. Right now I’m lookin for anohter version of vista. Is anyone having the same problem as me?

Adblock 0.7.5.3 does support Firefox up to version 3 Beta 4.

NoScript 1.5.8 still supports the newest version 3 Beta 5.
