So, Lets speak by the numbers

So we have 2000 points difference not to mention the price for the “new” OS with “kernel patch protection” (see wikipedia), and other “features” like increase startup time and not to mention that some new (or newbie) ms programmers rewrite the same code again. The NEW OS has to implement embedded virus protection, resource protection, abandon registry because it is not correspondence with files, it has permissions in every key like it is a file, it has many different types from string to binary, and because many setup put files inside keys, ms doesn’t decide yet where is the right place for files. Some goes to windows, some to registry some to the application folder, some try to hide to anywhere, and has a file system based in relation database. Today one may seek the entire disk just to find one file and even in RAM takes too much time with thousand of files. Is a toy and expensive one.

I test them several times. It has nothing to do with low end onboard graphics cards. I also test a desktop class pc with normal mid range class VGA card. The result is the same. I don’t tweak any OS before the benchmark test. No “other” programs are running. Only OS, drivers, Aquamark.

I recently acquired a batch of pc’s for my business, all loaded with XP, not Vista. No customers of ours have mentioned Vista. XP is a good operating system. MS have the strange idea of releasing an OS before final testing, thereby using early adopters as beta testers. It always amazes me that there are people enthusiastic and naive enough to pay for a new MS OS.

LMAO, ChelseaBlue is a troll! paraphrase “Buy Vista Legitimately, it’s cheap (can be found on Ebay) and can run with vmware fine (best of both worlds)… But do it legally. WTF? Don’t you know buying something on Ebay, you can also risk receiving a pirated copy? HA!

I would not get Vista even if MS offered it for free with Office 2007… Oh wait. They did that already and I still didn’t get it. It’s a worthless peace of crap (if there ever was any). I won’t get or tell others to get something that was “co-authored” with the Intelligence Community. Besides my privacy, it is HIGHLY unstable, full of (STILL) incompatibilities for much of third party software and I don’t like the idea that the OS helps me think or tells me what to do (UAC). I had to DOWNGRADE 3 NEW systems with Vista Home Basic to XP for people who “heard” how bad it was.

I agree with #5 Worth quoting: “Having Windows Vista on your PC is like trying to run an orienteering course with someone kicking you in the crotch.”

I waited a good two years to upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP Pro and I’m waiting a good two years to update to Vista, if ever. From a business aspect, there are SO many software compatibility issues there’s no way I’d even think about going Vista Business for my small business. XP is stable and works, I’m not changing!

Best bet is to just get an iso of the dell copy of vista ultimate, requires no serial and shows up as a genuine copy with the new service pack, for those who are resorting to buying it…

The price is not the problem with Vista. People who have would pay and people who have not would pirate anyway. Problem is that Vista consumes the laptop battery for nothing. Basically the number of Vista copies sold is very close to the number of Vista copies preinstalled. I know many who have bought laptops with Vista preinstalled and switched to XP or Linux shortly after.
