M$ finally announces the rumoured Xbox360 Elite
Yes, you’ve heard this rumor before: Microsoft is readying a new version of the Xbox 360 with a 120GB hard drive and an HDMI video output port. The rumor’s been around since January, thanks to a leaked photo of the so-called “Zephyr”–an HDMI-equipped 360, which Microsoft claimed was only a concept model.
The San Jose Mercury News’ Dean Takahashi has a bit more details on the rumored Xbox 360 Elite edition that Game
Informer reported on earlier this month. Game Informer had already reported that the new, black 360 would come with a 120-gig hard drive and HDMI out and sell for $479. Takahashi adds that the new 360 will habe IPTV capabilities, something I suggested would make sense, and that the new design will also implement the a chip redesign, shifting from 90 nanometer to 65 nanometer, resulting in a significant drop in cost to Microsoft. Takahashi adds that he thinks the introduction of the new 360, which will be produced in limited quantities, will not effect the price of the current core or 20-gig models.
Conclusion: the new black Xbox 360 will arrive in late April and feature HDMI output, an HDMI cable and a 120GB harddrive all for $479. Unfortunately, there appears to be no talk of a 360 featuring a built-in HD-DVD drive. Perhaps that’s down the line. There also seems to be room for a 360 with support for the IPTV announced at CES earlier this year. That was the good news. The bad news is the console’s reported price–a hefty $479, just $20 less than the 20GB PlayStation 3. But, unlike Sony’s console, the new Xbox 360 won’t support a next-generation video format.

Actually industry analysts are saying HD-DVD will be dead in a year or so and BlueRay will win the next format. Bah I don’t really care eitherway, I won’t worry about it until a blueray burner costs 50$ at my local shop.
Can’t argue with the fact that Sony is imploding, it’s rather fun to watch I still use my ps2 & hdloader weekly.
Bill gates can blow me before I buy an “elite” 360, but I will surely be getting a plain old standard non 1337 360. And a ps3 when I don’t have to sell an internal organ to afford one.

Damned, I just wrote a whole page on this and forgot about the spam protection field…When I pressed back, my post was gone…So, to summarize – fuck both PS3 and 360, I still like my games with a keyboard and a mouse….And, also they should’ve kept the original price and call this a little ‘up-to-date’. For fuck’s sakes, the component prices have dropped quite a bit since 360 was released. And, people complain about buying a 360 some months back, when they could’ve waited for this upgrade. That happens with every consumer product. I should complain to Nokia when I spend $200 on a phone, just so they would release a new model a few months after.
