Metal Slug-ALiAS

It looks the first old school game I posted today was met with quite positive reactions so here’s ALiAS’ second game release, this time from 1996. Metal Slug is a classic run and gun video game released for Neo Geo arcade machines and later converted for consoles as well.

In 2028, General Donald Morden launches an all-out, global attack against the Regular Army. With superior numbers and equipment, the Rebellion overwhelms the unsuspecting Regular Army troops easily. The attacks could have been countered effectively, or even prevented, had the high-ranking officials listened to the Regular Army’s intelligence community, which had been warning about all sorts of indications that the Rebellion could attack at any moment in decisive force. Unfortunately, the same officials decide to save their own skins and announce that it was the intelligence failure that led to such catastrophe, which the personnel serving in the intelligence community did not appreciate whatsoever.

The player has to constantly shoot at a continual stream of enemies in order to reach the end of a level. At the end of each level, the player must confront a boss who is often considerably larger than regular enemies and takes many shots to defeat. On the way through the level, the player finds weapons upgrades and “Metal Slug” tanks that can be used not only as weapons but also as added defense.

    games like prototype coming out and we get 10+ year old games, here on rlslog…cmon people, metal slug is a great game, but there should be only recently released stuff here, and finding these games on the web iz easy,no need for them to be here,imo…

    Thanks for posting these old games. They are a lot of fun. Sometimes with new games trying to have the best graphics as possible game developers forget that fun is the most important ingredient in a game. Maybe you could post some of the old Monkey Island games now that they announced the new one coming out at E3.

    Honestly, I don't see a problem. rlslog can always post the new games as well, so posting some old school stuff shouldn't be an issue.

    Metal Slug is a great game. I've played every one in the series. This is a good post. Even people who haven't played it in the past should give it a try.

    I'm just not sure why this is getting released when you've already been able to play it on the pc for years. It even looks better in emulators cause at least those have video blitters, this just seems unnecessary.

    I'm having trouble starting a game. I get to the main menu, I follow through with the default controls to "insert coin" and selecting 1/2 players but none of them work (1 and 2, 5 and 6). Any catch or is there something I'm missing. Thanks :|

    When its on the screen that says start and options, make sure the thing is next to start and hit the A button or whatever you have that set to as your controls. then it should start.

    Not sure if you care but it works fine for me in Vista. I have Ultimate 32bit if that makes a difference. Fury didn't say whether he had 32 or 64 bit and neither did yourarse but it seems to not run on the 64 bit systems

    this is a terrible release in my opinion for the following reasons
    A) its been available on MAME for years along with the others
    B) trying to change the controls will frustrate you greatly if you want to use a controller.
    C) it seems alot of people are having problems getting it running.
    dont get me wrong metal slug is by far one of my favorite games of all time but this post just seems kinda useless to me.
    thanks ne ways tho ALiAS i still give mad props and hella respect.

    The dx9 error is not the problem on x64, just copy the dll to:

    C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\1

    But the mslug.exe crashes anyway, at least on win 2008 x64…
