WATCH OUT! I stopped keeping up with the upgrades for this when I heard that the program alters the files on your hard drive. I haven’t bothered to check if this version does or not. It’s a deal killer for people who use bit torrent and need to keep their files the same as the way they downloaded them.

You can use the Collectorz brand CD manager plus MediaMonkey or whatever your favourite media playing software is. No such program (to my knowledge) exists that does both.

I used to be an avid RealPlayer junkie, but when I tried MediaMonkey (Gold thanks to the great folks here at RLSLOG), I found it to be vastly superior. I had picked RealPlayer over all the other media players because of how user-friendly it was. Because of my need to access a lot of music many different ways, I always needed something that would work faster to do what I needed (for instance, functions that were easy to execute).

    So, yeah.

MediaMonkey FTW. i actually PAID for this software. That’s how good it is, no joke. Foobar is a close contender, but it takes way too much effort to customize.

out of interest mainly what do most people use as their media player of choice for music (and if the same one for videos?)
i use winamp but am growing a bit tired of it lately because of it’s heaviness but can’t find a viable alternative.. looked a j river media center, mediamonkey, jetaudio - all seemed the same, just couldn’t get into their itunes layout style.. foobar was too open source for me, i configured it off guides really nicely but was a bit buggy and didn’t have a strong enough media library (plugin wise) for all my music

Pretty great program. I use it in conjunction with foobar2000. Using foobar to rip CDs and saving them as FLACs. Until recently used EAC for that purpose, but it wont run anymore.

I’ve been using this application for about a year now and i’m not thinking about changing. Organizing my over 100gb music is a cake and to everyone that wonders, MM does not change your music files. It use a database to save information on all your tracks.

I’ve used this for years as a jukebox that plays almost all day every day with many thousands of songs (randomly). My major need was something that can normalize the levels so no song is louder/softer than the other… and do it without altering the mp3 file (other than a special tag in the ID3).

    June 22nd, 2008 | 04:51

I have used it on my friends comp and i didnt like it.
He had a lot of songs and when i dragged and dropped the songs into a playlist then went back to select more songs to drag it would bring me back up to the top of the song lists. Dunno what the deal with that was.
I’m a linear thinker so i like iTunes. I also use iStore to full, good quality album art, and correct song titles, artists, albums, years; that way my iPod isn’t unorganized.
    Just my two cents.

THE STRENGTH OF THIS PROGRAM IS THE ARCHIVING/DATABASE FUNCTION.

I have 800gb of music on backup dvds in the closet and use mediamonkey to scan the tags of my music on the dvds once and then I can instantly find the music I want if something gets corrupted or if I delete it due to space constraints. For keeping track of archived music by means of their tags MediaMonkey is seriously the best program out there.

I don’t use it as a music player and anyone who disses it as such has not understood what it is good at.
