    This looks somewhat similar to the Fox Video Converter .. very similar in fact.
    It might be worth a download, if the variety of video formats it is capable of converting exceeds the former.

    I was wondering - how come there is **a lot** of these video conversion tools on the net, yet every single one of them does the same AND either look poorly skinned or is looking awkward?

    Are the developers ripping some open source project or something? Because it looks for me like all they do is to create some kind of lame GUI on the cheap.

    Personally all these apps are useless if none of them can handle Matroska (mkv) files. There are already a billion apps like these out there that already the usual plethora of formats.
    Maybe if one of these guys focused on a simple app to convert those dammed mkv files i can’t seem to find anything to convert, instead of coming out with thtet same stuff over and over again, they’ll make a killing!!

    It seems you have a hunch.and you i have to agree.Take Xilisoft for instance most of the .dll it uses is released under GPL (avcodec,mencoder,ffmpeg).
    If you want free encoders try WinFF, it is my fav

    You can convert MKV’s to AVI with AVIDEMUX, which is free by the way. It does it in single or double pass as well. Just open the MKV with AVIDEMUX… you’ll see the image is heavily pixelated in the view windo, but it DOES do the conversion. I’ve done it a number of times with HD movies… you just need to know what you’re doing with bit-rates and so forth. Handles audio as well.

    @ all

    you guys asking for the MKV and all that, you have to try with a program simply called “SUPER”:

    it’s free and has tons of formats( FLV too and I think even blu ray and stuff like that for the PS3, psp and wii and celphones..etc ) and all kinds of tweaks for your conversion needs, it’s really simple to use and very fast, I’ve been using it for like a year now and I can’t believe such a wonderful program.

    I can only say the bad thing is when you first wanna download it, you have to look where it says “download” which takes you to another page to show more info about the program, then click “download” again, and show samples and charts and stuff like that and then click at the bottom “download SUPER setup”, I think that’s the only thing that bothered me the frist time :p, but seriously give it a try =)

    Everybody is shouting try this n that;
    The simple fact is the real solution is FormatFactory (free opensource multilang). It can easily handle ALL formats, including MKV, all iPod variants, PMPs, ZUNE, PSP, DivX, WMV, FLV - ALL! Anything you can think of. It will never corrupt your registry or try to phone home, like SUPER does at times. It is not as complicated as AVIDEMUX. It comes with all the codecs, INCLUDING REAL & QT. Amd it can work in portable mode. It supports Hi-Def res.

    What more can you ask for? :P

    I am a huge fan of mkv for quality, but when it comes to watching on my HDTV I need something in the DivX/XviD category. “E. M. Total Video Converter v3.12″ (portable version in my case) http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4352421/Total_Video_Converter_3.12___Serial is what I’ve been using to meet this need. “SUPER” ends up have a corrupted index according to VideoLan Media Player (vlc), maybe I just do something wrong. Again more time spent on interface and/or skinning would serve these products well.

    Is anyone else having a problem with this telling you Cannot open file “C:\Program Files\Media Convert Master\langs\English_Profile\DirectShow.avs”. Access is Denied. ???

    If anyone knows how to fix this please help =/ All I did was try to convrt some wma files to mp3 and got that error, help would be nice. Thanks.
