@3, What’s with the pissing contest? Can we just have Windows & Mac OS for the apples and oranges that they are? They’re two very different operating systems, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and there’s no need for hating on here. We saw enough of it earlier with the Windows 7 announcement.

When did McAfee ever create good software? If anyone has ever done tech support they would know how problematic McAfee and Norton products are.

Software conflicts, dataflow issues, system slowdowns……and the list goes on and on.

Kaspersky or Eset. AVG and Avast are rather good for the freeware versions……..but never ever McAfee or Nortons. They were both rated towards the bottom of the top ten security suites.

    more noobware.

    Get this:
    http://www.intego.com/

and replace the app’s with these:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/106023179/NetBarrier_X5_10.5.1_1A2E7B.zip

then go here and dowload a pre made configuration that will save u loads of time..
    http://bofh.50megs.com
then “import” the ‘Config-file.netb’ file into netbarrier and your done.

obviously if you use cracked apps or ripped serial numbers then ‘little snitch’ is handy to help those apps stay serialised.
i also use peerguardian, and ’saft’ *link below* -just to keep the ad’s at bay.

    the [k] for netbarrier:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/118435153/NetBarrier.zip

Saft 10.0.8 for Leopard (MacOS 10.5.2) and Safari 3.1.1 (5525.18)

    http://rapidshare.com/files/112345740/saft_leopard.dmg.zip

thats all you wll ever need.

    macs dont get viruses.

i hate it when people talk about how mac users are elitist…or how mac is only good cos of no viruses n omg thats not even true anymore or anything.

i use both a pc and a mac on a daily basis. they’re both great….i find i use my pc more for formal work..and my mac is better for browsing, email, msn, playin music, playin movies. both a PC and a Mac can do all of these functions just as well. its not what they do, its how they do it. mac does things with relative ease n style n smoothness…hence fun for leasure activities….with pc software its designed to have more complicating functionality at your fingertips making it better for fast work. but at the end of the day…both machines have almost similar software.

OS X - SECURITY, STABILITY, and SPEED.
    WINDOWS - COMPATIBILITY, VERIETY

whereas OS X is improving on compatibile n software veriety, Windows is gettin worse with security, stability and speed.

There are no viruses for Mac. There HAVE been one (1) in total for OS X, but that was years ago. There are no viruses for OS X, and anyone who claims otherwise is ill-informed.

    May 29th, 2008 | 02:46

@29 Damn right, what would be the point in going through the effort of writing a virus for an OS that has about seven users? It would hardly be the next Mydoom..

    May 29th, 2008 | 02:55

Milo you are completely ill-informed and deluded. People like you amaze me with your ignorance.

You are the exact reason why we need a separate Mac section from the PC section. Admins please listen.

Mac’s are for people who can afford them ((like me:) - I have a MBPro 17 Inch w/ upgraded HD matte display, 4GB Ram and 250 GB harddrive)) My Mac wakes me up, keeps me company and even talks to me (no bull, there is speech recognition software in the system preferences!) - and I go to sleep with my Mac (yeah my girlfriend says I love my machine more than her, maybe true? Lol) - you PC users are just sappy because you can’t pay for beauty and power combined in one shell, so you opt for the cheap “power only” PCs…:D

It’s true what the commercial says - “I love my mac!”

    May 29th, 2008 | 16:02

Mac Os X does have some virus’s that effect it but as others have mentioned they are few in number, the problem is that they can get all the virus’s pc’s can get as well the just don’t have an effect on the machine, the problem is that they like to attacting them selves to your email, instance messages and the files you share with others, so these anti-virus applications are more for you to make sure you are not sending virus’s to your pc using friends and family.
