This is a command-line scanner, meaning it's not resident and so DOESNT hog resources if you're not using it. It's main purpose is to use it as a standalone virus remover/cleaner/scanner, without having to install.

NOD32 maybe light on resources but isn't that good at virus removal, for eg, Vundo or other WinLogon injectors or rootkits. It's HORRIBLE at cleaning infected files, like Win32.Sality or even good old VBS based document infectors, whereas McAfee does a damn good job of cleaning infected files.

Don't just diss a program just because it doesn't fit your requirements.

McAfee… what a piece of crap. It is a virus in itself.
Totally hogs up your resources.
NOD32 has been for a very long time, the best there is.

60Mb for a command line virus scanner is rediculous

You can download this, along with current virus definitions, directly from McAfee.
ftp://ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/superdat/intel/
ftp://ftp.mcafee.com/pub/antivirus/superdat/intel/
Download the SDAT*.EXE files (~115MB).

You must unpack it using the /e switch (eg. >sdat5722 /e). Unpacking is finished when the .tmp files are automatically deleted.
