Massive XboX 360 price cuts soon
Hot on the heels of Microsoft slashing Xbox 360 prices in Japan, the long rumored price cuts for the Xbox 360 in the U.S. look to be a reality. And yes, the Xbox 360 Arcade model will now be cheaper than the Nintendo Wii. Based on Radio Shack and Walmart advertising pamphlets, as well as Best Buy and GameStop employee reports, Newsarama is reporting that the most substantial cut is being reserved for the “starter” Xbox 360 Arcade, which only ships with a 256 megabyte memory card.
The Xbox 360 Arcade will drop from $279 to $199 starting September 7, pricing it below the current going rate for the Nintendo Wii. And Microsoft isn’t leaving the Pro or Elite models out of the party. The Pro and its new 60 gigabyte harddrive will drop from $349 to $299, while the 120 gb Elite model will drop from $449 to $399. No cuts have been announced for the 20 gb Pro models, and Microsoft has yet to confirm the other price drops. Of course, the evidence has been out there for quite a while now.

Xbox 360 is a great machine…when it don’t RRoD. I use it as my main gaming system and enjoy it greatly. Achievement points are addicting do those that have OCD. The arcade games cost way too damn much lol
I heard it “breaks down” after prolonged continued use, meaning, fan gets louder, or too loud, or stops working altogether, etc, etc (?)

So after almost half a year you get the same price range as Europeans? With the launch of GTA IV they already dropped the 360 to 199€ where I’m from and that is for quite some time. Still the 360 is not attractive to me. Think about it … if you buy a 360 you support the company that makes mandatory Vista and the OS racist DirectX 10.
Go and get a PS3 instead, at least you can use the hard drive for something useful and it will still make itself handy as a Blu-Ray player in a couple of years time. I don’t own either, I’m pretty happy with my Wii … not too many games but that’s OK I need some time to watch torrents anyway
As a long time Sony user, I’ll probably go for the PS3 instead. I find the games on the Xbox too limited - mostly shooters and racers - Sony have more quirky games etc. Also the PS3 includes BluRay which is a plus. I’ve been tinking about which one to go for, but there’s really nothing to sway me in favor of the Xbox besides the price. Also, I really don’t like the idea of supporting MS financially - I find SOny more innovative. MS just buys into things later on when they’ve become standards…
eh price cut.. i was hoping for Sony to see this and drop down their price also, but that’s not gonna happen seeing how well the ps3 is selling.. never one in stock at my local costco when i want to buy one.. Lifetime warranty for the win! PS: if you’re going for the xbox360, i suggest you buy it from Costco.. their life time warranty, you just can’t beat that.
PS: don’t abuse the Costco system though.. they might take the lifetime warranty on game system away like they did with TV’s :*(

its true, even cdrom wont read some of games and that kind of problems. I still think is a nice platform for games, but its like a gamble when you buy it :/
@4 that happens to early models cos they have a cheap graphics processor that overheats too easily ( since been replaced with a better falcon chipset in newer models ) … unfortunatley the recent consoles have a new dvd-drive that cant be modded/flashed - which is probably one of the reasons for the price drop

The PS3 is the best, but the games are so expensice like 65 euros, thats way too much.

PS3 has been constantly outselling 360 for a while now, but they are still down about 5 million in total sales.
The price drop is to slow down the PS3 momentum.
can play all scene rls’s (films) on ps3 without having to convert them or put them on a dvd as it has divx and xvid support, can copy them to the h\d which you can replace with just about any laptop hard drive if you need a bigger one at any point, plus it looks better & doesnt die of rrod!!

POST 4: Wah, I have had a xbox 360 since the day it came out in Australia. Several Years ago now.. I use it for gaming from time 2 time but it gets used 8 out of 24 hours a day 7 days a week as a Media Center ( MCE Extender ) it renders full HD TV and it gets a work out with the latest games as well.
The fans are the same noise level as the day I bought it ( almost silent from 2m away )
It has never frozen or broken down in any way.
PS3 is far from the best console, my good friend is the manager of a EB Games store and will argue that the PS3 sells 1/3 the amount of games as the Wii and 1/2 the amount of games as the 360.
Plus the 360 can extend your Vista / MCE2005 media center interface. The PS3 can’t do this.

I have had my launch console 3 years and bought a second recently for “backup games”. All I can say is I have never once had the RROD or a crash of any kind.
Keep in mind that these newer models are much more stable then my older ones. The chances of getting a RROD now are the same as the PS3 dying & with future builds planned its only going to get even better.
I wont buy a PS3 because I see nothing going for it, all the games I like are on the 360 and I have the option to get them for free.
Whats that you say? Blu-Ray, if I wanted Blu-Ray I would just buy it for my PC since it’d get used a whole lot more.
Sony believes the future is Blu-Ray, Microsft believes the future is digital downloadable media. MS shows this off with HD movie downloads (this meaning you cant damage a disc too) and with the new dashboard due in November its only a matter of time before MS offers full game downloads to your hard drive.
Oh and not to forget a new feature that will be coming… *optional* game installs which will work on all current and future Xbox 360 games. Meaning the 360 will be as quiet as it is during demo’s and will reduce heat.
The lesson here - the smarter *gamer* buys a Xbox 360 and gets a Blu-Ray player for there PC.

You can link your PS3 up to you Media Center PC that’s running 4 TV tuners, get a full 14 day TV guide and get it all with a stock PC and Console.

Downloadable HD media, stream media from PC’s within the home & play media off a USB stick. Its not needed at all & I already know what some will say… it will mean we need more discs right? correct, but now we have the option to install all the discs (or just 1 of the discs) and play the full game that way.
The whole PS3 vs Xbox 360 thing is run by kids, each system has there own way of doing something. Just because one does it different from the other doesnt mean one is better then the other. “Yea yea, so why are you saying all this?” To prove the 360 does the same as a PS3 just in a different way.

Ha. Sony fanboys still grabbing onto the RRoD. It’s the only thing they can attack the console for. They can hardly make any claims about having more or better games. After all the 360 not only has double the back catalogue and more games in development, but more than double the amount of games rated >90%. Not only does the 360 have more games, but more of them are good. At such a price, the 360 is undeniably the better gaming console; particularly with the undeniably better and grander online system. Sure, the PS3 is a better all-round media player with Blu-Ray, but if it’s a gaming machine you’re after you can’t go wrong with a 360.
Speaking of the RRoD, the new systems with the new Jasper CPU have a standard industry failure rate of around < 4.5%, the same as the PS3 and Wii. Long gone are the days when a failure is likely. If you are unfortunate to receive the RRoD, Microsoft repair ALL RRoD failures guaranteed absolutely free.
The price cut is most likely cuz they’re going to announce a new one in a few months. The 720, or better yet, the 1080, because its an even bigger number so it must be better!

when i was trying to decide witch system to i was leaning towards 360 because every one had one was concerned about RROD the above friend said don’t worry about he had his since launch.
im a big halo fan The the only game i would want to play on 360 is along with gears of war. well i thought i could mod it free games with my luck it would RROD to me that not worth the price.

so i got a ps3 the same day my friend system RROD but to tell u the truth the 2 games i wanted will be out for pc sooner or later gears of war already is for free. two titles and possible RROD FTHAT.

all this is not coming to PC is business strategy to a while for halo to PC once it stop selling system ,let the PC pirates have it and we make what we can. gears of war only hit the the PC a year after Release for to reasons.
1)Help with Visa launch with Microsoft games.
2)Their weren’t that many modded 360 even Microsoft can only handle one pirate at a time.
IF those games don’t hit Microsoft game the are going to put Microsoft games for the PC on the back burner till they have i more secure Platform.
once the have a secure gaming platform those games for the PC will come out sooner and even if games are pirated by PC users you still have to pay xbox live for online.

Remember when there wasnt be a PC version of Assassin’s, Creed, Mass Effect, GTA4, Halo, Halo 2 and the first Gears wouldn’t come to the PC. Money talks you keep falling for marketing strategy.

The difference is with all them 360/PC games they never said there would never be a PC version. Epic has said pretty clear they wont release GOW2 on PC and its pretty obvious why. The 1st one on a PC was a flop and allot of people downloaded copies which meant they lost allot of money, they wont make that mistake again. So sorry PS3 fanboy but you wont get to play GOW2 unless you buy an Xbox 360 this time.

The only reason I’d waste my money on a 360 is the piracy. I hate Microsoft, I hate the xbox, but some of the games look interesting. Hell, maybe my piracy will help motivate companies to move to the ps3 and stop their xbox360 exclusive crap. Seriously, the graphics are already outdated. My geforce 8800 ultra is definitely more impressive. I’m getting a ps3 as soon as FFXIII is released (at least versus is still a ps3 exclusive) So lets recap, RRoD is bad. Any company that releases an incomplete and faulty product to the market, fails. Any company that has to bribe game developers to work with them, fails. Any company that named microsoft, fails.
PS3 is off the table right off the bat since its not hackable. So comparing PS3 to a 360 on rlslog is like comparing a car that gets 10mpg to one that gets 300mpg so to speak if you know what i mean. Those that bash the 360 probably don’t have one or never played a game in HD on a 50″ plasma with Dolby Digital surround.
As far as PCs…I’ve been an avid PC gamer since the beginning and let me tell you my PC is only used for basic stuff like internet and email and d/l of course since I got the 360. On a 360 you can have any game you want and NEVER have to worry about protection. hehe wish I can say that about women.
