yeah yeah bear is a fake yada yada yada.

the show is still better than survivorman as bear is an entertainer, that survivorman guy is boring, there's only so many times we can watch him fail to light a fire with a couple of twigs.

Bear is the real deal. Youtube vids are usually kids. He was one of the youngest people to scale Everest. That aint no joke. That is a bit of an accomplishment. Also, he gets more into demonstrating concepts that you are likely to encounter. Like how to get down a cliff side safely, or how to make tools that might be needed.
I spend a great deal of time outdoors. I learned survival from a lifetime of back country hiking. I can attest to the information he provides. It can save your life. Most of you aren't likely to be in that situation, so you tend to knock shows like this.

Survivorman wasn't renewed. Frankly, all we watched was starvation. He never found good food sources. On one show he brought along a partner with a gun. They shot one squirrel, and later shared a snake between them. But I suppose a lesson can be learned: there is no substitute for civilization.

Actually, I talked to Homesteaders, on a trip to Alaska. They don't do that with the expectation of self-sufficiency. They go there to join extended communes. All had day jobs. It is true that as long as they meet Homestead law building requirements, they live rent free. But they have to buy and maintain oil powered generators.

survivorman whines constantly. you can tell, he's just there for the paycheck… and, he's horibble at demonstrating the survival methods he talks about.

No substitute for civilisation? I hate city slicker urban fools like you.. no experience.

people can live off the grid, away from all civilisation, in a family unit. it's been done and is done.

that suvivorman guy is s2pid, how does he walk towards the camera? if he really is alone, then he puts it then walks back again to the camera? he looks dumb doing that.

    January 13th, 2009 | 16:44

This show is by far the best in it's genre.

    Oh and Bear Grylls ftw.

  27. Mmmmmmmmm
    January 13th, 2009 | 16:53

This guy is a total fake, he really does look like he knows nothing about survival and it really does show, all he seems to do is walk about eat something he finds and also knows nothing about and then spends the rest of the episode pi**ing out of his ass and talking rubbish.

Even the shows own disclaimer, in the titles says it's just a demonstration, not reality.

When they went to reair old shows in the UK, they were forced to add voice overs explaining the parts that are staged.

Les Stroud carries his own cameras and plants them, backtracks and shoots his films himself.

I suppose Bear Gryllis does survive though. When they stay at the hotel between shoot days, I am sure putting up with a 2 star really is survival when you are used to 5 stars.

Sure he CAN survive, but he doesn't on THIS show.

Les Stroud has problems lightign fires or making it out of some of his episodes? That's called reality, children.

"He and the crew receive support when they are in potentially life-threatening situations, as required by health and safety regulations. Professional advice should be always be sought before entering any dangerous environment."

Segment above from the show's own intro disclaimer, not jealous kids. it gives them freedom to CREATE an entertainment show.

'Okay guys it's 5 PM, my zipper broke and I'm getting cold. Can't we just wrap this up for today, head back to the hotel for a steak and a few beers and try again when it warms up a bit?'

bear is awesome and so is this show. he's not a fake, they even say what the show is about… they show you ways to survive and they stage some things so they can show you what to do if youre ever in that situation. him and survivor man kick ass.

Les Stroud also does things like drink water from puddles surrounded by mouse droppings. When I saw that I lost all respect I had for him, because that is one thing you NEVER do. Follow his advice and you're likely to die.

  39. shawn Mcc
    January 15th, 2009 | 20:25

Robert you should know that when your in a survival situation water is your first priority, Les is always careful where he drinks and have never drank near mouse poop.
Still better than drinking your untreated urine like Bear does…. just read Les Strouds book, it outlines when/where/what with respect to drinking water in survival situation.
