Bear's okay but the show's a fake. He flies in and out of location for each daily shoot, which may be one scene or two. They have climbing rigs and hide ropes out of camera view as he precariously scales a cliff edge or into a deep ravines as if he was climbing down the vines.
You can get pretty brave when you know you are not in danger.
But to endanger yourself like that when stranded alone is just stupid.

you mean survivor is more realistic? I always thought the women were pretty close to the real thing, whiny, nagging, contriving, useless outside of the kitchen etc.
If you mean Survivorman, yes it is a more realistic show because it is real. Even when he doesn't make it, its at least real.
Those shots of Bear eating bugs take some real wind up for him to pull off, proving he isn't actually hungry and trying to survive but just offering a demonstration to look cool, boring.
There's all kinds of fake behind the scenes crap about this show, but a lot of real behind the scenes footage too, showing that it is just a typical TV production, just like Survivor but without the competing and challenges which are at least somewhat entertaining.

The show isn't fake because they don't try and hide anything. Sure on the show they don't want you to see the rest of the crew and the safety guys because they're creating an illusion of a guy surviving alone but we know that they're there, and they're shown during all the behind the scenes clips and such. Bear isn't lying, the show isn't lying, they're not hiding anything. It's a production like any other show and it's pure entertainment which is why it is better than Survivorman which is totally realistic but boring as hell. That also doesn't take away from the fact that Bear does all of his own stunts, is fully trained and does go on genuinely dangerous expeditions himself such as his trip to the top of Everest which resulted in the death of 4 of his team mates.
MwW is boring, he always keep telling the same things over and over, and after time it gets really boring to listen all that crap again and again.
I first watched first season of this show then found about Survivorman. That show is 100 better than this one.
And Bear is teaching the wrong things. Do you really think when you are lost out there is smart to get up or down the 30m cliff? That is just crazy

This guy and the show is total fake, let me say that again for those morons that think any of this rubbish is real this guy and the show is total fake.
@kaba I totally agree – Bear creates a fantasy world in which he does what appear to be made-for-TV stunts which, when compared to the harsh reality of Survivorman, seem ridiculous.
If you think this show is alright, watch Survivorman and see a real person surviving in the wild, without assistance.

Survivorman is WAY worse. You should NOT drink standing water from small puddles surrounded by rat droppings. Also, all he does is stay in one place and whine about being hungry. Has he ever been rescued? No! So if it was reality, he would have died EVERY SINGLE TIME!
