Probably a very young, unsophisticated school drop-out/leaver who’s been eager to join the army all his life in order to make a “man of himself” or uphold their parents/family’s army traditions.

You said it very well bro. These are EXACTLY the type who download this and think ‘wow man if I do what Bear does then I can be a cool comando dude and everyone will respect me!!

I don’t think anybody really expects him to do all those things without a safety team in place in case he gets really f’d up.

Plus it’s more entertaining than say American Idol.

Anyone remember “How not to die” aka “Hunting Chris Ryan” where the ex SAS guy was pursued by other Special Forces and had to evade capture. That looked pretty real as far as the injuries and complete exhaustion on the guys face.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a ’survival’ show where you are taught how to react if real life goes tits up, say you found yourself in a Coup while on vacation in Africa and needed to evade capture.

Bear is a survivor show for those of us who are athletic, the type of person who is an extreme hiker/explorer and may likely find themselves in this kind of situation. Only the athletic can do what he does. Find civilization, get out yourself, not lay around waiting for a helicopter. I seriously doubt you’ll get lost on your couch as you watch Ray Mears.

Watch Ray Mears and read books if you really want to learn something!

Watch Les Stroud if you want to see how it applies in real life situations and the costs of your errors.

Watch Bear Grylls if you really don`t have anything better to do, but please, please don`t ever try to apply what he does in real life situation, you will die.

I knew from the start that not all of his shots or whatever could be authentic one time moments. Like, it’s obvious when you see shots of him from the sky or shots of him underwater etc. A camera person needs to be there and I’m sure when he’s in actual danger, his crew WILL lend him a hand.

But the point of this program isn’t for Bear Grylls to prove how much of a man he is, but to inform and educate us, the viewers, what to do if you were presented with the worst case scenarios. Therefore, he ISN’T performing unnecessary and stupid stunts. I am in the army and some of the stuff he has demonstrated are actual survival skills used when we are faced with the worst case. So I don’t doubt most of the legitimacy.

It’s still TV and every TV program will add their own bit of magic to make us go WOW. So be a little open minded but at the same time, don’t be so naive by taking everything you see on tv for its face value.
